This paper presents a Fast Tracking Two Stage Adaptive Noise Canceller (FTTSANC) technique that increases the capability of fast tracking in nonstationary environments of the TSANCA (Two Stage Adaptive Noise Canceller algorithm), especially when more sudden changes in the noise level occur after the settlement of convergence of the TSANC algorithm. The tractability of conventional ANC (Adaptive Noise Canceller) using the LMS (Least Mean Square) algorithm is improved at any time invariant. FTTSANC algorithm can be used to decrease both the convergence times of the LMS and the steady state error making it more effective than the LMS algorithm at tracking in nonstationary environments

Network intrusion detection systems (NIDS) monitor packets on the network and attempts to discover if a hacker is attempting to break into a system. The matching of packet strings against collected signatures dominates signature-based NIDS performance. Network processors are one of the fastest growing segments of the semiconductor market, because they are designed to provide scalable and flexible solutions that can accommodate change quickly and economically. This work presents a fast string matching algorithm (called FNP) over the network processor platform that conducts matching sets of patterns in parallel. FNP needs less number of memory accesses against conventional pattern-matching algorithms. Another contribution of this work is to highlight that, besides total number of searching patterns, shortest pattern length is also a major influence on NIDS multi-pattern matching algorithm performance.

Most previously proposed ruining methods on data streams make an unrealistic assumption that "labelled" data stream is readily available and can be mined at anytime. However, in most real-world problems, labelled data streams are rarely immediately available. Due to this reason, models are reconstructed only when labelled data become available periodically. This passive stream mining model has several drawbacks. We propose a new concept of demand-driven active data mining, hi active mining, the loss of the model is either continuously guessed without using any true class labels or estimated, whenever necessary, from a small number of instances whose actual class labels are verified by paying an affordable cost. When the estimated loss is more than a tolerable threshold, the model evolves by using a small number of instances with verified true class labels. Previous work on active mining concentrates on error guess and estimation. In this paper, we discuss several approaches on decision tree evolution.

A new edge detection method, based on decision-level information fusion, is proposed to classify image pixels into edge and non-edge categories. Traditional edge detection algorithms make the detection decision under a single criterion, which may perform inefficiently with a change of noise model. We use fusion entropy as a criterion to integrate decisions from different classifiers in order to improve the edge detection accuracy. The proposed decision fusion based edge detection method is applied to image filtering and leads to a weighted hybrid-filtering algorithm. Simulation results show that the new edge detection method has better performance than the single criterion edge detection methods.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive learning technique for "sensor-planning", that is how to control PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera sensor for human finding without prior environment information. Our idea is based on Q-learning with positive and negative rewards as optical-flow result and camera motion respectively. Additionally, an adaptive learning rate mechanism enables us to change the control sequence quickly to adapt situation change. This planning method has advantages of real-time processing, online learning and quick adaptation. We show a simulation experiment in pseudo room environment to compare our method with traditional methods. Our algorithm can detect moving object 21 percent faster than probabilistic method

We propose several improved error concealment (EC) algorithms based on the H.264/AVC non-normative decoder. The major differences are that motion compensated EC is introduced for intra frames, whereas spatial EC is introduced for inter frames. As for the EC of intra frames, scene change detection, motion activity detection and MV retrieval are hierarchically performed to decide whether spatial or temporal information is to be used. As for the EC of inter frames, scene change is also detected to avoid merging the scenes from different video shots. Therefore, the main idea of the proposed algorithms is that both spatial and temporal correlations are utilized for the EC of intra and inter frames. Both subjective and objective simulations under Internet conditions show that the proposed algorithm greatly outperforms that in the H.264/AVC non-normative decoder.

We propose a multivariate trending for aircraft fault detection. Multivariate trending generate fault indicators using output sensor data, is one of black-box approach. We use convex polygon for the computation of a rough shape or extent of the normal data set. Quickhull algorithm is used for the hull finding because it is simpler and uses less memory. It is assumed that the normal data points are in general position, so that their convex hull is a simple complex. We represent a d-dimensional convex hull by its vertices and (d-1)-dimensional faces. From multivariate trend analysis, if we find the measurements have the tendency to leave the convex polygon, this measurement can be labeled as a fault. If a new point is above all hyperplane of the convex hull, it is outside the convex polygon.

We describe the implementation of a vision algorithm based on matched filtering on an FPGA. detection of a reference image in an input image must be performed in real-time and robustly against occlusion and change of illumination. Vision algorithm based on matched filtering can perform the detection robustly but requires much computation time since it includes 2D FFT/IFFT and polar transform. In this article, we implement the algorithm on an FPGA so that the detection is performed in real-time and robustly.

3D TRUS-guided robot-aided prostate brachytherapy provides tools for dynamic re-optimization of a dose plan by freeing needle insertions from parallel trajectory constraints, i.e., needle trajectories can be positioned with considerable flexibility including oblique. However, oblique insertion results in the needle intersecting the 2D TRUS image and appearing as a dot, leading to blind guidance. Here, we propose a method for oblique needle segmentation and tracking to be used in a 3D TRUS guided and robot aided prostate brachytherapy system. This algorithm applies a grey-level change detection technique to find the location and orientation of needles from 3D images. Three 2D images containing the needle (oblique sagittal, coronal and transverse planes) are extracted and displayed in near real-time. Testing showed that our algorithm can find 3D needle orientation within 0.54/spl deg/ for a chicken tissue phantom, and 0.58/spl deg/ for agar phantoms, over a /spl plusmn/15/spl deg/ insertion orientation. The execution time averaged 0.13s on a 1.2 GHz computer.
