We propose a dissolve detection method based on the analysis of a dissolve modeling error that is the difference between an ideally modeled dissolve curve without any correlation and an actual variance curve with a correlation. First, candidate regions are extracted by using the characteristics of a parabola that is downward convex, then the candidate region will be verified based on a dissolve modeling error. If a dissolve modeling error on a candidate region is less than a threshold adaptively determined based on the variances between the candidate regions and the target correlation, the candidate region should be a dissolve region with a correlation less than the target correlation. By considering the correlation between neighbor scenes, the proposed method is able to be a semantic scene-change detector. The proposed algorithm was tested on various types of data and its performance proved to be more accurate and reliable when compared with other commonly used method dissolve modeling error. The proposed algorithm consists of two steps. First, the candidate dissolve regions are extracted using the characteristics of the first and second derivate of a variance curve. In the second step, the candidate regions are verified based on a dissolve modeling error. If the dissolve modeling error for a candidate region is less than a threshold defined by a dissolve modeling error with a target correlation, the candidate region is determined as a dissolve region with a lower correlation than the target correlation, which can be given application-dependently by user or can be used as a control factor of video parsing. The proposed algorithm was tested on a variety of data and the performance proved to be more accurate and reliable when compared with other commonly used method.

To defeat current commercial antivirus software, the virus developers are employing obfuscation techniques to create mutating viruses. The current antivirus software cannot handle the obfuscated viruses well since its detection methods that are based upon static signatures are not resilient to even slight variations in the code that forms the virus. In this paper, we propose a new type of virus signature, called dynamic signature, and an algorithm for matching dynamic signatures. Our dynamic signature is created based on the runtime behavior of a virus. Therefore, an obfuscated virus can also be detected using a dynamic signature as long as it dynamically behaves like the original virus. We also discuss issues related to deploying our virus detection approach. Our experiments based upon several known mutating viruses show that our method is effective in identifying obfuscated viruses.

RADARSAT-2 SAR data were used to develop a monitoring program for Canadian forest lands with the aim to provide information on forest cutblocks and to develop algorithms for the detection of forest disturbances. Three study sites were selected in Canada and were representative of different forest types and terrain. Due to large data volumes and the need for efficiency, an automated end-to-end solution was implemented. The automated solution included image coregistration, temporal filtering, detection of forest disturbances, and delineation of the disturbances. A critical component of the overall solution was the validation: cutblock information and Landsat imagery were used. Overall there was good agreement between the changes detected in the RADARSAT-2 data and the validation data. False positives were detected that were mainly due to changes from non-forestry natural sources and anthropogenic sources. In general, the separation of the forest and the non-forest areas-of-changes was relatively straightforward since these areas did not intersect. Further validation is planned, with data acquisition over the three study sites slated for the summer of 2016.

Presents recent work in the areas of simulation, mission planning, and mission execution for an unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV). The UUV we consider is the Manta Test Vehicle (MTV), operated by the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport, Rhode Island. A 6-degrees-of-freedom Simulink model of the MTV vehicle dynamics augmented with an autopilot is used to test the algorithms. The on-board mission planner generates reference trajectories for the vehicle to follow, taking into consideration bathymetry data and moving obstacles that are within the forward-looking sonar range. A trajectory consists of a sequence of waypoints and associated headings from the current vehicle location and orientation to the goal. Trajectory generation takes into consideration the dynamic capabilities of the MTV. The D* algorithm - an extension to the Dijkstra shortest-path algorithm which allows efficient re-planning when arc-costs change - is used to generate and maintain a safe trajectory. Trajectory re-planning is triggered when the sonar detects an obstacle in the trajectory currently being followed. A Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm is inserted between the D* algorithm and the vehicle inner loop autopilot. The MPC algorithm issues the reference commands to the autopilot to allow the vehicle to follow the planned trajectory. The cost function within the MPC algorithm can be changed depending on the guidance task. The MPC algorithm uses a full nonlinear model of the MTV vehicle to project ahead the output trajectory and employs orthogonal Laguerre polynomials to create basis functions that are used in the synthesis of reference commands to the autopilot. The MPC controller also provides a second layer of obstacle avoidance capability and keeps the vehicle on-track in the presence of a current.

The odor distribution advection-diffusion environments in obstacle environment have been developed. In real world the odor distribution are changing over time and multi peaks especially in obstacle environments. The purpose of developing this environment is to bridge the gap between the very complex hard to understand real-world problem (odor dispersion model) and all too simple toy problems (dynamic bit matching or moving parabola). Modified particle swarm optimization is a well-known algorithm, which can continuously track a changing optimum over time. We will adopt two types of PSO modification concepts to develop a new algorithm in order to control autonomous vehicles to solve odor source localization in real world environment. Firstly, PSO can be improved or adapted by incorporating the change detection and responding mechanisms for solving dynamic problems. Secondly, charged PSO, which is another extension of the PSO, has also been applied to solve dynamic problems. In order to control autonomous vehicles in more realistic condition from the viewpoint of robotic, where a speed limitation of the robot behavior and collision avoidance mechanism should be taken into consideration as well as the effect of noise and threshold value for the odor sensor response, also positioning error of GPS sensor of robot. Simulations illustrate that the new approach can solve such dynamic environment in advection-diffusion odor model problems even though in obstacle environments.

A dynamic tracing algorithms for the detection of industrial sewing machines on images sequences from a high-speed camera is presented. First, feature extraction is completed with the Harris Corner detection algorithms based on the change of intensity; Then the prediction of the move tendency of the corners with Extended Kalman Filter is accomplished; By using of the Neighborhood Matching algorithms the paths of the component tracked is obtainable finally . The Harris Corner detection algorithms has the properties of translation, rotation and scaling invariance and high precision, the Neighborhood Matching algorithms has the advantage of low computational complexity , the combination with Extended Kalman Filter increase the efficiency and the accuracy of the system. Experimental results show that it have a good performances in the problem proposed.

In this paper, we describe the hardware configuration for ambulatory ECG monitoring device and the algorithm for detection of ST shape change. Ambulatory ECG recordings are available for diagnosis of heart diseases such as myocardial infarction, arrhythmia, etc. It especially is important to detect the transient ECG pattern changes. The detection of transient ST change caused by myocardial ischemia is one of the reasons why ambulatory ECG monitoring system is necessary. We designed a small-size portable ECG device that consisted of instrumentation amplifier, multiplexer, micro-controller, filter and transmitter module. The device measures ECG with four electrodes in the body and transmits the signal to receiver connected in PC by digital radio way. The developed algorithm detects the ST level change, and then classifies the ST shape type using the polynomial approximation. The algorithm finds the least squares curve for the data between S wave and T wave in ECG. This curve is used for the classification of the ST shapes. ST type is classified by comparing the slopes between the reference ST type and the least square curve. Through the result from the developed algorithm, we can know when the ST level change occurs and what the ST shape type is. And, the result of analysis is used to make control signal that decides when ECG recording begin and when stop.

In this paper, we investigate how to detect intruders with low latency for Active Authentication (AA) systems with multiple-users. We extend the Quickest change detection (QCD) framework to the multiple-user case and formulate the Multiple-user Quickest Intruder detection (MQID) algorithm. Furthermore, we extend the algorithm to the data-efficient scenario where intruder detection is carried out with fewer observation samples. We evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method on two publicly available AA datasets on the face modality.

Fast arithmetic operators have always been an important topic in computer design. There are two kinds of arithmetic operators: fixed-time and variable-time ones. While fixed-time arithmetic operators have been widely studied, variable-time operators seem to be more and more interesting for low-power design and very high performance computing. Self-timed arithmetic operators are able to deliver their result in an average computation time less than the worst case time. We present an architecture, which is a variant of the carry select adder, for the addition of n-bit numbers with a O(/spl radic/(log/sub 2/n)) average computation time.

Pattern matching is a well-known pattern recognition technique. This paper proposes a novel pattern matching algorithm that searches transformation space by sequential subdivision. The algorithm subdivides the transformation space in depth-first manner by conducting Boolean operations on the constraint sets that are defined by pairs of template points and target points. For constrained polynomial transformations that have no more than two parameters on each coordinate, a constraint set can be represented as a 2D polygon or a Cartesian product of 2D polygons. Then, the Boolean operations can be computed through generic polygon clipping algorithms. Preliminary experiments on randomly generated point patterns show that the algorithm is effective and efficient under practical conditions.
