An algorithm for 2D shape estimation of moving objects is proposed, which reduces the estimation error compared to the ISO/MPEG-4 reference. The improvement is achieved by four approaches: firstly, the memory for object masks is motion compensated. Secondly, the robustness against camera noise is enhanced due to averaging the noise in succeeding frames. Thirdly, several steps of the algorithm are combined in one MAP detection rule, which leads to spatially more accurate and temporally more coherent object masks. Fourthly, the consideration of results from a colour segmentation is moved to a more suitable position in the algorithm, in order to avoid estimation errors at object boundaries.

An optimal algorithm for channel parameter estimation in direct-sequence spread-spectrum (DS-SS) systems with strong interference is examined in this paper. The algorithm is based on the maximum likelihood (ML) criterion and a modification of the extended Kalman filter. The algorithm is shown with an asymptotic analysis to determine the actual channel parameters. A complete implementation of the algorithm is described, and its transient behavior is examined by computer simulations.

Background modeling is an essential processing component for many video applications. However, most reported background modeling algorithms, which are based on the intensity difference detection, fail to handle sudden illumination change in monitored scenario. In this paper, a novel Markov random field (MRF) based probabilistic approach for background modeling in video surveillance applications is presented. The proposed framework takes both intensity and texture observation into account and fuses them spatially and temporally in an adaptive way to cope with sudden change in illumination. Using Gibbs sampling to solve the MRF in a maximum a posterior framework, proposed algorithm achieves real-time performance. Both visual and quantitative experiments in several sequences of indoor scene demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm.

Technology of frequent pattern tree is presented in the paper. This paper analyzes the defect and limitation of algorithm based on classic frequent pattern of association rules. Then based on KDD* model this article implement an association rules algorithms based on IFP-tree. The middle results and finally frequent patterns of the algorithm are stored on database. The algorithm in build IFP-tree and speed of mining frequent patterns has certain improvement. Finally, the experiments reports in the paper confirmed that IFP-tree algorithm if effective and reliable for mining association rules.

We address the problem of detecting changes (faults) in systems and signals. We establish new results on a class of quadratic change detection algorithms which are based on the /spl chi//sup 2/ statistic (/spl chi//sup 2/-CUSUM, /spl chi//sup 2/-GLR and /spl chi//sup 2/-FSS algorithms). We compare optimal sequential and nonsequential (fixed-size sample) strategies in the problem of abrupt change detection in multivariate Gaussian signals. However, the optimal sequential algorithms lead to a burdensome number of arithmetical operations. In order to reduce the computational burden we examine the recursive versions of the /spl chi//sup 2/-CUSUM and /spl chi//sup 2/-GLR algorithms. It is shown that these recursive algorithms have statistical performances which are similar to the original algorithms. We also propose a very simple heuristic solution to the case of unknown magnitude of change. This solution is a competitor for the window-limited GLR algorithm.

Through massive experiments we found that for the binary text image embedding algorithm which hiding information by flipping central pixels of the image block, the statistics of run length between cover image and the image after been embedded is different obviously, but which between stego image and the image after test embedding is similar. Based on this law, a novel technique for the steganalysis of binary text image is presented in this paper. In which a test message is embedded in the text image firstly, then the run length statistic difference between text image and the image after embedded is calculated. When the difference exceeds the threshold value, the image is a cover image, otherwise it¿s a stego image. Through the classification experiment, the threshold of several typical characters had identified and the experimental results showed that the detection rate can reach 99.9% by using of the proposed method and the related threshold.

A new approach to blind detection of JPEG images having hiding information, which is based on the feature of wavelet domain is put forward. The specific way of detection is as follows: First, decompose an image by using wavelet, calculate the co-occurrence matrix of the adjacent wavelet coefficients, and apply Laplace transform to the co-occurrence matrix. Then take the Laplace-transformed variances and characteristic function (CF) moments of the co-occurrence matrix as the statistical feature, and choose BP neural network classifiers to classify and detect. Experiments of detecting the four typical steganographic algorithms of Jsteg, F5, Jphide and Outguess in such JPEG images have been carried out at different embedded ratios by using the method mentioned in this article, and the results show that the blind detecting method has the higher accuracy and it has higher calculating speed compared with the typical blind detecting methods.

Computed tomography (CT) is a powerful clinical tool for generating clinically useful images. Iodinated contrast medium (ICM) is normally used to enhance the image intensity and tissue contrast, and it can induce a variety of adverse reactions. The goal of this study was to develop a method for monitoring the pathophysiologic condition of the patient during a CT examination. A photoplethysmography (PPG) waveform was used to detect changes in the heart rate (HR), which were considered to represent clinical responses to the ICM. To enhance the PPG waveform in the presence of artifacts, a Kalman filter algorithm was used to compensate artifact signals in order to extracting a more robust beat-to-beat HR. The study collected data from 82 patients who received a standard CT examination in a hospital. The results showed that patients felt more discomfort when the change in HR lasted for longer or was larger: the response times and HR change were 149plusmn49.5 seconds (meanplusmnSD) and 26plusmn12.6 beats/minute, respectively, in the group that did not experience discomfort, and 123plusmn39.1 seconds (p<0.05) and 19plusmn11.1 beats/minute (p<0.05) in the group that experienced discomfort.
