Based on analysis on video retrieval issues among different time scales, a dynamic time warping (DTW) optimal matching algorithm is proposed in this paper. Firstly the sub-segments detection algorithm was used to separate the video into several consecutive sub-segments; furthermore, the video similarity matching algorithm on the basis of sub-segments was used to implement the retrieval process. The proposed algorithm establishes sub-segment correspondences by minimizing global differences between them, introduces search bound to change the whole searching to local searching, keeps temporal order of sub-segments and handles nonlinear misalignment of videos. It not only can successfully matching similar videos which have different time scales, but also meet the demand of rapid retrieval among massive video database. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient and robust than the conventional similarity matching algorithm based on visual similarity.

Digital watermarking is a technique for embedding information into data, such as images, 3D models, or audio files, such that some properties (i.e., security, imperceptibility, robustness) are maintained. While most of the existing watermarking techniques focus on encoding copyright information where security is one of the most important properties, we have developed algorithms for embedding Illustration Watermarking, i.e., content-related annotations for the image. Robustness against common media transformations, high capacity, and blind detection are our aspired properties while security and the usage of secure keys are less important. The medium that we are using for embedding data are 2D vector graphics. We introduce algorithms that change line attributes, introduce new vertices in certain patterns, and replace existing stroke segments by new lines in a stylistic way. Based on the modification they introduced, we categorize our techniques into whether they change the appearance of the image or not and whether the changes are perceivable by the naked eye or not. We demonstrate our techniques with silhouette lines obtained from 3D models. Such line drawings are a very common style utilized in many illustrations, in particular in the medical and technical domain.

We propose a new active queue management (AQM) scheme, proportional rate-based control (PRC), which aims to maintain the queue length around the target level by 1) dropping the packet whose arrival rate exceeding maximum desired rate; 2) using virtual queue to control the packet whose arrival rate above minimum desired rate. We compare the performance of PRC through simulation with several well-known AQM schemes such as RED, DRED and SRED. The study shows that the proposed scheme is more effective at stabilizing the queue size and responding quickly to traffic change than others

Shape context algorithm is a recently proposed good method for object recognition. It is robust under small geometrical distortions and occlusion, invariant under scaling, translation, and change of illumination. However, because of its computational complexity, this algorithm is not suitable for online recognition. In this paper, we proposed an improved shape context algorithm which introduces an optimal hierarchical structure and gives new reference points selection criteria. Compared with the original shape context algorithm, the improved algorithm keeps the recognition accuracy and reduces the computational cost greatly. The good experimental results reveal that, this new algorithm can be applied to the pedestrian detection system online, which is an important research topic in intelligent transportation.

Multisensor image registration is necessary in many applications of remote sensing imagery, the crucial problem is how to establish the correspondence between the features extracted from the reference and input image. Generally, most existing methods only use feature similarity or intensity similarity. In this paper, a coarse-to-refined method, which combines modified scale invariant feature transform (SIFT) feature similarity in coarse matching and cluster reward algorithm (CRA) in refined matching, is developed. To achieve refined registration, two transformation models are used. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective and achieves subpixel registration accuracy.

This paper proposes a cropping robust geometric distortion correcting algorithm for watermarked image using scale invariant feature transform. Centroid of the original watermarked image is calculated, and the features extracted from the triangles composed of the centroid and the scale invariant feature transform feature points are used to estimate the position of the point in attacked image that correspond to the centroid extracted earlier in original watermarked image, then the geometric distortion can be detected and recovered using centroid angle and centroid distance features extracted from the well matched scale invariant feature transform feature points. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can correct the geometrical distortion of watermarked image efficiently.

Video surveillance and conferencing systems have an impressive spread both for their practical application and interest as research issue. The common approach used in such systems consists of a good segmentation of moving objects. This paper presents an algorithm for segmenting and extracting moving objects suitable for surveillance and video conferencing applications, where a still background frame can be captured beforehand. Since edge detection is often used to extract accurate boundaries of the objects in the scene, the first step in our algorithm is accomplished by combining two kinds of edge points which are detected from the frame difference and the background subtraction. After removing edge points that belong to the background frame, the resulting moving edge map is fed to the object extracting step. A fundamental task in this step is to declare the candidates of the moving object, followed by applying morphological closing and opening operations. The algorithm is implemented on real video sequences and good segmentation performance is achieved.

This paper presents window memoization, a performance optimization technique for convolution-based image processing algorithms. Window memoization exploits the repetitive nature of image data to reduce the number of calculations required for image processing algorithms and hence, it improves the performance. We applied window memoization to a chain of image processing algorithms that includes median filter, Kirsch edge detector and local edge filling. We found that a large portion of the calculations performed on pixel neighborhoods can be skipped and instead, previously calculated results can be reused. The typical speedups were in the range of 1.6times to 2.8times.

In this paper, we propose a new method for active net model. The active net is a lattice network model that is based on minimizing energy to extract the region of a target object. In a conventional method, only one target is detected by one net. Therefore, assuming that the image can be divided into some parts, the proposed method uses many nets and applies them to each divided image. Some simulation results are presented obtained by applying the proposed method to images. In the proposed method, since the size of a net becomes small, the processing time to one net can be shortened. Furthermore, since the distance between lattice points is short in the initial net, the target at the end of an image becomes detectable. That is, it means that the target detection performance has improved.
