In this paper we consider multi-user detection in CDMA systems. A modified recursive least squares (RLS) Blind adaptive algorithm for multiuser detection in multipath channels is proposed. The proposed algorithm is shown to have a lower computational complexity than the conventional RLS algorithm while maintaining the same performance as the conventional RLS algorithm. Also, we propose a blind adaptive RLS algorithm that is used for multiuser detection of the high rate users in dual rate DS/CDMA systems in multipath (MP) fading channels. The new algorithm gives the same performance as the previously studied cyclic RLS algorithms. However, it has a significantly lower computational complexity.

We consider the neighbor-discovery problem in a fixed wireless network where each node is identified by its signature, and the signatures are chosen so as to limit collisions. Limited-complexity constraints lead to a simple algorithm based on incoherent detection of nodes. The performance of this algorithm is evaluated by computing the probability of a false alarm and of a missed detection of a single node.

For most of the real-world applications, two main challenges are infinite data flow and time changing concepts. Generally data are gathered over a long period of time and the data generation mechanism may change with time. In a dynamic environment, knowledge about the environment is rarely complete due to time-changing concepts. In recent years, a lot of methods have been proposed for effective learning in changing environments. Due to their ability to learn from new data, incremental learning algorithms can be used for learning in changing environments. In this paper we propose an ensemble based incremental learning approach with SVM (support vector machines) classifiers to provide ability to learn new domain knowledge in a non-stationary environment. Experiments on different datasets with simulated concept drift show promising results.

Agglomerative hierarchical clustering (AHC) has been widely used in speaker diarization systems to classify speech segments in a given data source by speaker identity, but is known to be not robust to data source variation. In this paper, we identify one of the key potential sources of this variability that negatively affects clustering error rate (CER), namely short speech segments, and propose three solutions to tackle this issue. Through experiments on various meeting conversation excerpts, the proposed methods are shown to outperform simple AHC in terms of relative CER improvements in the range of 17-32%.

Network traffic anomaly detection is a difficult problem in network management. This paper presents a wavelet generalized likelihood ratio (WGLR) algorithm and an error performance detection (EPD) algorithm to solve this problem. WGLR algorithm combines generalized likelihood ratio (GLR) algorithm and wavelet transform method, and captures the failure point in real time. Error performance detection (EPD) algorithm is based on the prediction error of the traffic model and regards the error as the statistical variable, comparing with the threshold, which will detect the anomalous change in the signal without test window delay. Simulation and network traffic experiment has demonstrated that the algorithm has better performance in fault detection.

This paper addresses an iterative Expectation-Maximization (EM) time-frequency synchronization algorithm joint with channel estimation for MIMO-OFDM systems in frequency selective fading channels. The receivers iterates between detection and estimation. For each iteration, we calculate first the expectation of ODFM symbols by using a posteriori probabilities provided by MAP decoder and second we maximise a proposed metric to obtain both frequency offset and then symbol-timing. The channel can be identified by means of these estimates. This algorithm can work in transmission mode and thus can be used to estimate the residual errors or track the change of the parameters. The performance of the proposed synchronization approach, in terms bit error rate and mean square error of the estimated frequency offset, is shown.

This paper proposes a novel kernel change detection algorithm (KCD). The input vectors from two images of different times are mapped into a potential much higher dimensional feature space via a nonlinear mapping, which will usually increase the linear margin of change and no-change regions. Then a simple linear distance measure between two high dimensional feature vectors is defined in features space, which corresponds to the complicated nonlinear distance measure in input space. Furthermore the distance measure's dot product is expressed in the combination of kernel functions and large numbers of dot product processed in input space by combined kernel tactic, which avoids the computational load. Finally this paper takes the soft margin single-class support vector machine (SVM) to select the optimal hyper-plane with maximum margin. Preliminary results show the kernel change detection algorithm (KCD) has excellent performance in accuracy.

A hidden semi-Markov model is proposed to describe a trend signal for non-invasive mean blood pressure. Based on the model, a Viterbi beam search algorithm working with an adaptive cumulative sum test is proposed to detect change points and recognize change patterns online. Testing results on the simulated signals and clinical signals demonstrate that the algorithm has improved performance over the standard cumulative sum test for change detection, and has the potential to provide a clinically relevant description of trend changes

This paper proposes a DCT-based moving object extraction algorithm which is focused on rainy condition by change detection method. The DCT technique is used to decrease the rainy effect in order to construct a reliable background model. Then, we use change detection to classify pixels in video frame into the foreground region or background region so as to acquire an initial object mask. Besides, reflection effect can be removed from, initial object mask through edge detection and bounding box match. Finally, a post-processing is used to refine the boundary of moving object by connect component labeling and morphological operation. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can provide a satisfactory segmentation result in rainy situations
