This paper describes a general windowing method to improve the channel estimation of ultra-wideband communication systems, then proposes a new low-complexity channel estimation algorithm which can effectively resist the inter-symbol interference. The algorithm can resist the inter-symbol interference caused by the channel impulse response. The algorithm only requires a 32-point FFT module. It is verified that the algorithm can effectively reduce the interference caused by multi-path channel and noise.

In this study, the authors present a novel channel estimation algorithm for three-hop multi-input multi-output (MIMO) relay systems using the PARATUCK2 tensor model. At the destination, the proposed algorithm exploits a unified formulation of the received signal as a PARATUCK2 model, and jointly estimates all of the channel matrices involved in the communication. Compared with existing algorithms, the proposed algorithm only requires the source to transmit the channel training sequences, does not need relays to perform any task of channel estimation, and yields smaller estimation error. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can be extended to multi-hop MIMO relay systems with any number of hops. Numerical examples are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of the PARATUCK2-based channel estimation algorithm.

Physical layer network coding with channel and delay estimation

Decode-and-forward physical layer network coding (PLNC) is one of the promising high-performance techniques for wireless relay networks. This study presents a channel and delay estimation algorithm along with a detection scheme for time-domain two-way relay network in Rayleigh block fading channels. Preambles are attached for frame-based synchronisation and channel estimation. Moreover, to achieve low-complexity estimation, the preambles are designed in Alamouti code structure. The Cramer-Rao bound (CRB) of the channel estimation is given, and simulations show that the mean-square error of channel estimation of the proposed scheme could reach the CRB. Compared with the traditional approach, the newly proposed combined scheme can achieve almost the same performance, but with significant improvement in computational complexity. At last, bit-error-rate performances analysis is given. Simulation validates the authors' analysis, and shows the upper bound and lower bound are tight.

A channel estimation method is proposed in polarization-division multiplexing single-carrier frequency domain equalization (PDM-SCFDE) optical coherent communications systems. The method utilizes a pair of orthogonal training sequences (TSs) in frequency domain and combines them with a provided reconstructive algorithm. Consequently, it can estimate full PDM channel state information accurately. Meanwhile, only one block of training overhead is required in the method. In this way, it is extremely bandwidth efficient. Two blocks training overhead are needed for the other literature. Based on a 100-Gb/s PDM-SCFDE coherent optical communications system, numerical simulation results show that the bit error rate performance of the proposed method is better than that of other methods with different TSs. Mountaionus terrain with moderate-to-heavy tree densities generally falls under maximum path loss category, during signal strength prediction and simulation in macrocellular environment. Traditional path loss models like Hata-Okumura model etc. are not suitable for hilly terrain with moderate-to-heavy tree densities. Recently, replecating the actual terrain scenarios, various Stanford University interim (SUI) channel models are proposed. The contribution of this work are two fold. First, we propose a modified least square (LS) algorithm which can efficiently estimate the channel model SUI-6. Secondly, to satisfy the required conditions of the proposed modified LS algorithm, we propose a new class of Z-complementary pairs (ZCPs). Numerical simulations ensure the efficacy of the proposed ZCPs under modified LS algorithm.

The field of wireless communication is experiencing rapid advancements, leading to remarkable achievements in terms of both high data rates and low latency. Notably, the emergence of 5G has significantly influenced the landscape, boasting impressive speeds of up to 20 Gb/s. Furthermore, the utilization of technologies like Orthogonal Frequency DivisionMultiplexing (OFDM) has played a crucial role in optimizing the efficiency of spectral utilization within communication networks. However, despite these advancements, the progress of wireless communication has introduced challenges in accurately estimating channels. This is primarily due to the presence of varied factors such as distortion, attenuation, fading, scattering, and other interruptions that affect the transmission of radio waves to their intended destinations. To address this issue, researchers have put forward suggestions aimed at enhancing the accuracy of channel estimation and strengthen the signal. In this paper, an extensive and comprehensive review of various channel estimation techniques provided, categorizing them based on their unique characteristics. Additionally, the role of the upcoming technologies, like artificial intelligence in the context ofwireless communicationwill be investigated. Such a review will be invaluable in making informed decisions regarding the selection of channel estimation techniques for emerging wireless communication systems.

This paper explores the network design implications to be taken into account in Smart Gateway Diversity (SGD) satellite systems, where gateway outage events have to be counteracted by efficient handover procedures. In more detail, enabling high data-rate satellite systems in these conditions requires efficient coordination strategies between gateways, upstream routers and Network Control Centre (NCC) to precisely estimate the need of handover and to efficiently manage the satellite resources. To this regard, this paper adopts a simple channel estimation algorithm and applies network coding to cope with packet losses deriving from possible inaccuracies on the prediction of the handover time. The results obtained via simulation confirm the capabilities of network-coding-based approaches and pave the way for further studies in the area of network for SGD satellite systems.

The increasing road traffic demands innovative safety solutions, and researchers are exploring V2V communication via 5G massive MIMO at 60 GHz using roadside lamp-based base stations. This approach, with its numerous antennas, offers benefits like improved spectral efficiency, higher throughput, expanded coverage, energy efficiency, and reduced latency. However, deploying massive MIMO in mmWave technology poses challenges, particularly in selecting a suitable channel estimation algorithm. This research paper addresses the channel estimation issue and introduces a sparsity adaptive algorithm that balances accuracy and computational complexity effectively. The algorithm optimizes channel estimation in 60 GHz scenarios relevant for vehicular communications by leveraging channel sparsity, reducing complexity while maintaining accuracy. It is well-suited for real-time vehicular communication applications. To validate the proposed algorithm's efficiency, the paper presents a comprehensive survey of existing channel estimation methods. A comparison table discusses various scenarios, particularly those in the 60 GHz range, providing insights into the algorithm's performance in different settings. These results hold promise for enhancing V2V communication systems, contributing to safer and more efficient road networks amid growing vehicular density.
