Evaluating the effects of wall restoration on ancient buildings has been a difficult task, and it is important that the overall appearance of the restored walls of ancient buildings is similar, harmonious, and uniform. This paper used a hue-saturation-value (HSV) color space and circular local binary pattern (CLBP) to analyze the comprehensive similarity between a restored wall and the original walls in Qi Li Ancient Town. The results show that the values of the comprehensive similarity calculation of ancient buildings based on the color and texture were consistent with the actual situation. The method is suitable for evaluating the degree of matching between wall repair materials and the appearance of the original wall materials of ancient buildings, and it can also be used to assess the comprehensive similarity between the repair materials and the original building walls before carrying out the wall repair in order to select more suitable materials for wall repair and achieve the best repair effect. And it is flexible and objective compared to human judgement. Through the accurate restoration of ancient buildings, not only can we protect cultural heritage and continue the historical lineage, we can also enhance the aesthetic value of buildings and meet people's needs for historical and cultural tracing.

In this paper, we propose an octagonal prism representation for localbinarypatterns (LBP). This representation implements a new circular distance measurement for face recognition under various illumination conditions. The LBP method has been widely used in many computer vision applications, particularly for face recognition. Most LBP matching methods use distribution features with a bin-to-bin distance measure. However, using this bin-to-bin distance measure may produce low similarity scores even for similar patterns. To address this problem, we placed the LBPs on an octagonal prism in a three dimensional space and used the Euclidean distance measure. In the proposed octagonal prism representation, the LBPs were represented as three dimensional vectors on the octagonal prism. Since similar patterns under different illumination conditions are located in the vicinity on the octagonal prism, the proposed method proved robust against illumination variations. The proposed method produced noticeably improved performance when using the CMU PIE, Yale B, and Extended Yale B databases.

In this paper, a fast and accurate algorithm to distinguish between open and closed eye is proposed. In the proposed approach, we use a fast and accurate preprocessing stage based on Haar features to detect the face area, color and intensity mapping to extract the eye candidate areas, and some simple geometrical constraints for final approval of the eye area. Then, for detecting the eye state with high accuracy, texture features extracted from localbinarypattern (LBP) and mean localbinarypattern (MLBP) histogram in eye areas are applied to two SVM classifiers. Finally, in the case of conflicting results of classifiers based on LBP and MLBP, the amount of exposed sclera is used for final decision making of eye state. The proposed algorithm uses a logical combination of texture and appearance features to increase the accuracy of distinguishing between closed and open eye, and because of limiting the search space at each step for the next one, has an acceptable computational cost. Experimental results on test images show that the proposed algorithm can correctly detect the eye state by the ratio of %99.1, which is higher than other similar algorithms. In addition, this algorithm has never wrongly detected a closed eye as open one;so, it can be used safely in applications such as driver drowsiness detection.

Partially constrained human recognition through periocular region has emerged as a new paradigm in biometric security. This article proposes Phase Intensive Global pattern (PIGP) : a novel global feature based on variation of intensity of a pixel-neighbours with respect to different phases. The feature thus extracted is claimed to be rotation invariant and hence useful to identify human from images with face-tilt. The performance of proposed feature is experimented on UBIRISv2 database, which is a very large standard dataset with unconstrained periocular images captured under visible spectrum. The proposed work has been compared with circular local binary pattern (CLBP), and Walsh Transform, and experimentally found to yield higher accuracy, though with increased computation complexity and increased size of the feature vector.
