Energy consumption has always been a hot research topic in wireless sensor networks, in this paper, a novel energy-saving routing protocol based on two-layers routing mechanism is proposed, in which, the first layer adopts the remaining energy centroid algorithm to form clusters and elect the cluster heads, uid the second layer adopts multi-hop transmission to guarantee that the cluster heads can transmit data to the base station along an optimal path. Simulation results show that our new algorithm has better performance than some traditional methods such as LEACH, HEED etc., and can reduce the energy consumption ofsensor nodes and prolong the Li fecycle oldie whole wireless sensor networks at the same time.

Due to limited energy, computing ability, and memory of Wireless sensor Networks(WSN), routing issue is one of the key factors for WSN. LEACH is the first clustering routing protocol, which can efficiently reduce the energy consumption and prolong the lifetime of WSN, but it also has some disadvantage. This paper proposed an improvement based LEACH, called LEACH-T. According to different number of clusters, LEACH-T uses variable time slot for different clusters in steady-state phase, and single-hop or multi-hop to transmit data between cluster heads and Base Station. Also it considered residual energy of sensor nodes and the optimal number of clusters during selection of the cluster heads. The simulation results show that LEACH-T has better performance than LEACH for prolonging the lifetime and reducing the energy consumption.

Aiming at the problems of high end-to-end transmission delay and low packet delivery rate caused by the high mobility of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) nodes, a routing protocol based on the improved equal dimension new information GM(1,1) model (IEDNI-GM) is proposed. By analyzing the motion characteristics of the UAV node, combine the gray prediction model and the Markov chain model to construct IEDNI-GM to predict the location of the UAV node at the next moment. Meanwhile, the paper combines the advantage that clustering structure can optimize network management. We consider the motion state and the communication link state between nodes and use the predicted value of node position to calculate the value of link holding time, motion similarity and expected transmission count. The cluster-head election indicator is constructed by combining these three values, and the UAV nodes in the network are clustered. This clustering structure is adopted to improve the AODV routing protocol. Therefore, the source node can find an effective communication route to the destination node. Experiments under the network simulator NS-3 show that compared with routing protocols such as AODV and AODV-ETX, the routing protocol in this paper can effectively reduce the end-to-end average transmission delay, increase the delivery rate of data packets, and is more suitable for UANET.

Most of the cluster-based routing protocols for wireless sensor networks (WSNs) use dynamic clustering approach, in which the clusters need to be reconstructed while the cluster heads are reselected after a number of rounds. This reconstruction procedure consumes a significant amount of extra energy due to the frequent exchange of control messages. In this study, we propose a hierarchical routing protocol for WSNs using static cluster construction with dynamic cluster-head selection. In the proposed protocol, called Hierarchical Hexagonal clustering Mechanism (HHCM), the monitored region is tessellated by regular hexagons of the same size, and the sensors in each hexagon region are identified to form the first level clusters. In order to balance energy consumption, the cluster head of each cluster is selected according to the amount of current residual energy of the sensors in the cluster. The same approach is applied to the other higher levels of super-clusters, in which each super-cluster composes of seven lower level identical hexagons to form a hexagon-like region (a Gosper island). Extensive simulation shows that HHCM is effective in saving energy and therefore significantly prolongs the network life time.

With rapid increase of the advancement in wireless technologies, the world is now moving toward smart wireless devices which require the communication and collaboration of the Internet of Things (IoT). The smart devices, which called sensor nodes, enhance the use of the IoT as the essential components of today's smart world. Therefore, the wireless sensor network (WSN) is the most widely used technology enabling IoT scenarios. Using the technology, a huge volume of data needs to be tackled and transmitted carefully via the internet. Since the lifetime of the network is related to the reduced battery capacity of the connected wireless sensor nodes, extending the network lifetime is the main goal to be achieved. clustering algorithm has a significant effect on the system lifetime for the IoT-enabled WSN applications. In this paper, a fuzzy-based routing protocol (FRP-LEACH) and a cross-layer routing protocol (CLRP-LEACH) are proposed based on the clustering topology. The proposed algorithms are designed for the healthcare IoT applications. These algorithms offer several advanced cloud-based services and facilities to serve patients more effectually and protect the medical and paramedical framework from pandemic illness like the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. To address the above-mentioned concerns, an energy efficient routing protocol based on fuzzy logic is proposed to optimize wireless Internet-of-Things sensor networks performance. Simulation results are presented, and they show that the proposed algorithms outperform current cluster based-routing protocols using a fuzzy logic algorithm in terms of generating stable clusters and extending the network lifetime.

An Inter-cluster Communication based Energy Aware and Fault Tolerant protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

The ambient intelligence paradigm is built upon Ubiquitous Computing (UC), in which the computing devices are embedded in the environment with the purpose of enhancing the human experience at home, workplace/office, learning, health care etc. The UC applications aim at providing services to the users anywhere, anytime in an unobtrusive, seemingly invisible way. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have great potential for UC applications and are envisioned to revolutionize them. This paper presents a clustering routing protocol for event-driven, query-based and periodic WSNs. The protocol aims at optimizing energy dissipation in the network as well as providing network's fault tolerance and connectivity. Message propagation is accomplished by using short distance transmissions by employing nearest neighbor nodes between neighboring clusters. Moreover, the algorithm proposes using an energy efficient approach by alternating the nodes responsible for inter-cluster communication inside one cluster. The algorithm also aims at even energy dissipation among the nodes in the network by alternating the possible routes to the Sink. This helps to balance the load on sensor nodes and increases the network lifetime, while avoiding congested links at the same time. We discuss the implementation of our protocol, present its proof of correctness as well as the performance evaluation through an extensive set of simulation experiments.

Water quality sensor networks are widely used in water resource ***,due to the fact that the energy of these networks cannot be supplemented in time,it is necessary to study effective routing protocols to extend their *** address the problem of limited resources,a routing optimization algorithm based on a small-world network model is *** this paper,a small-world network model is introduced for water quality sensor networks,in which the short average path and large clustering coefficient of the model are used to construct a super link.A short average path can reduce the network’s energy consumption,and a large coefficient can improve its fault-tolerance ***,the energy consumption of the relay nodes near the heterogeneous node is too great,and as such the energy threshold and non-uniform clustering are constructed to improve the lifecycle of the *** results show that,compared with the low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy routing algorithm and the best sink location clustering heterogeneous network routing algorithm,the proposed improved routing model can effectively enhance the *** lifecycle of the network can be extended and the data transmission amount can be greatly increased.

Key renewal scheme with sensor authentication under clustered wireless sensor networks

In wireless sensor networks, the clustering routing protocol is commonly used for energy efficiency. However, routing protocols without proper security suffer from many security vulnerabilities. Hence, a key renewal scheme based on the clustering routing protocol is proposed. To apply the key renewal scheme with sensor authentication, sensor nodes are first authenticated during the key establishment procedure and then the symmetric key is updated periodically using hash functions. The simulation results show that the proposed key renewal scheme lengthens the network lifetime and has shorter activity time of attackers in spite of increasing the number of compromised nodes.

This paper presents a QoS-aware routing protocol for event-driven, query-based and periodic Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). This algorithm is cluster-based and aims at optimizing energy dissipation in the network as well as providing fault tolerance and connectivity to the network. It uses clusterhead nodes and the nodes closest to each other within two neighboring clusters for relaying messages. Thus, message propagation through the network is accomplished by using short transmissions. Moreover, the algorithm proposes an energy-aware approach by alternating the nodes responsible for inter-cluster communication while supporting network connectivity and avoiding congested links. We discuss the implementation of our protocol and present its proof of correctness.

The mobile ad hoc network architecture consists of a set of mobile hosts that can communicate with each other without the assistance of a base station. This has brought a revolution in mobile computing environment as well as several challenges. Fault-tolerance is an important design issue in building a reliable mobile computing system. This paper considers checkpointing recovery services for a mobile computing system based on the mobile ad-hoc network environment. In this paper we propose a new minimum process checkpointing scheme in ad hoc networks for the Cluster Based routing protocol (CBRP) which belongs to a class of Hierarchical Reactive routing protocols. The protocol proposed by us is non-blocking coordinated checkpointing algorithm suitable for ad hoc environments. It produces a consistent set of checkpoints;the algorithm makes sure that only minimum number of nodes in the cluster are required to take checkpoints;it uses very few control messages. Performance analysis shows that our algorithm outperforms the existing related works and is a novel idea in the field.
