Radio broadcasting technology has evolved rapidly over the last few years due to ever increasing demands for as high quality sound services with ancillary data transmission in mobile environment. The Eureka-147 Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system with coded OFDM technology accomplish this demand by making receivers highly robust against effects of multipath fading environment. In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of DAB system conforming to the parameters established by the ETSI (EN 300 401) using frequency interleaving and different coding rates in different transmission channels. The results show that interleaving is essential for the forward error correction to work properly and an increased coding rate makes the system more flexible without increase in the receiver complexity.

This paper addresses the dichotomy that exists in the analysis of wireless channels, which exists between employing: the tractable Shannon capacity bound and the accurate simulated capacity of modulation and coding schemes (MCSs). By considering the effects of mutual information saturation in modulation schemes and the efficiency of error correction codes, the paper proposes a new tractable capacity expression that can accurately represent any MCS and adaptive combinations. To demonstrate this methodology, the paper considers the adaptive MCS capacity for the Long-Term-Evolution (LTE) system. The potential benefit is that system-level optimization can employ the more accurate capacity expression. In the second part of the paper, the proposed capacity expression is applied to optimize power allocation to the parallel, channels of a MIMO system. The results show that when mutual information saturation occurs, neither the water-filling nor channel inversion schemes are optimal. In fact the optimal power allocation is a combination of the two aforementioned schemes, switching adaptively between their relative merits.

Turbo coding, with its performance closely approaching the Shannon limit, is an excellent modern error-correcting coding. In recent years, the 6th generation (6G) mobile communication has put forward higher requirements for the coding rate range and Bit Error Ratio (BER) performance. To meet these requirements, a low-rate Turbo encoding and decoding scheme has been designed and implemented. By puncturing, the designed scheme supports a wide range of coding rates (i.e., 1/9 to 1). The feasibility and effectiveness of the designed scheme have been verified through the BER performance simulations and Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) implementation.
