Novel dispersion compensation method for cross-coupling measurement in PM-PCF based on OCDP

For polarization maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM-PCF), the cross-coupling measurement can be severely affected by interferogram broadening, due to the large inter-mode chromatic dispersion. In this paper, a novel dispersion compensation method is proposed to mitigate the influence, including a frequency domain algorithm and investigation of the dispersion coefficient for a phase packet in algorithm. A numerical simulation and measurement of birefringence as a function of wavelength reveal that the dispersion coefficient in PM-PCF is much larger than that in PANDA-PM fiber. After compensation, the accuracy of coupling strength measured can be restored and spatial resolution is improved. Experiments show the compensation provides high accuracy with average relative error less than 0.31% and spatial resolution improved 4.1 times. (C) 2013 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Density implications of shift compensation postprocessing in holographic storage systems

We investigate the effect of data page misregistration, and its subsequent correction in postprocessing, on the storage density of holographic data storage systems. A numerical simulation is used to obtain the bit-error rate as a function of hologram aperture, page misregistration, pixel fill factors, and Gaussian additive intensity noise. Postprocessing of simulated data pages is performed by a nonlinear pixel shift compensation algorithm [Opt. Lett. 26, 542 (2001)]. The performance of this algorithm is analyzed in the presence of noise by determining the achievable areal density. The impact of inaccurate measurements of page misregistration is also investigated. Results show that the shift-compensation algorithm can provide almost complete immunity to page misregistration, although at some penalty to the baseline areal density offered by a system with zero tolerance to misalignment. Aiming at the magnetic positioning accuracy of capsule robot and the magnetic coupling between capsule robot and external driving magnetic field, according to the requirements of capsule robot for position and attitude information, a magnetic positioning compensation method of capsule robot based on magnetic driving system is proposed. This method deduces the error formula according to the magnetic dipole model, optimizes the formula, reduces the number of unknowns, optimizes the calculation process and improves the positioning accuracy. At the same time, a compensation is added to solve the magnetic coupling problem between the external driving magnetic field three-axis Helmholtz coil and the capsule robot. Finally, several groups of experiments verify the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Error compensation of a 2TPR&2TPS parallel mechanism based on particle swarm optimization

This paper solves the problem of the precise compensation of the pose error of a 2TPR&2TPS parallel mechanism. First, the inverse solution of the mechanism is solved, the error source of the mechanism is analyzed, and a closed -loop vector method error model based on the inverse solution is established. Then, the ball screw commutation gap is measured with a high -precision grating ruler, and a laser tracker is used to measure the comprehensive position error of the mechanism under the set trajectory (circle). Finally, an error compensation algorithm based on the particle swarm algorithm is constructed, the measured trajectory data are substituted into the compensation algorithm, the position accuracy of the mechanism is significantly improved, and the compensation effect is remarkable. The compensation algorithm has good versatility, is simple and feasible, and can be applied to the error compensation of various mechanisms.

Wheel force transducers (WFTs) have performance characteristics that make them attractive for applications in endurance evaluation of road vehicles, ride and handling optimization, tire development and vehicle dynamics. Since the WFT is mounted on the wheel and rotates with it, the rotational angle of the wheel is indispensable to calculate the real wheel forces. Unfortunately, an angle error caused by the steering of the vehicle will be incorporated into the measurement of the rotational angle, resulting in great error in the wheel force calculation. A new compensation algorithm is proposed in this paper to eliminate this angle error. In this algorithm, the GPS speed has been introduced to modify the measurement of the rotational angle in real time. Simulations with designed vehicle movement are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the compensation algorithm. Furthermore, the results of real vehicle test show that this algorithm can be successfully used in practice to get more reasonable wheel loads. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Plasticity of synaptic connections plays an important role in the temporal development of neural networks which are the basis of memory and behavior. The conditions for successful functional performance of these nerve nets have to be either guaranteed genetically or developed during ontogenesis. In the latter case, a general law of this development may be the successive compensation of disturbances. A compensation type algorithm is analyzed here that changes the connectivity of a given network such that deviations from each neuron''s equilibrium state are reduced. The existence of compensated networks is proven, the convergence and stability of simulations are investigated, and implications for cognitive systems are discussed.

Environmental parameters can seriously affect the performances of continuously running spring gravimeters. Temperature is a primary interfering quantity and its effect must be reduced through algorithms implementing a suitable compensation scheme. algorithms to reduce the signals coming from continuously running gravimeters for the effect of meteorological perturbations have been developed and implemented in tools running in offline-mode. Anyway, the need for "on-the-fly" processing emerges when the recorded signals are used for volcano monitoring purposes, since any information on the volcanic phenomena under development must be assessed immediately. In this paper the implementation, in a dedicated LabVIEW application, of an algorithm performing temperature reduction on gravity signals is discussed and features of the software's user interface are presented. Simultaneous estimation of tire side-slip angle and lateral tire force for vehicle lateral stability control

Knowledge of tire side-slip angle and lateral tire force is crucial to vehicle lateral stability control which can enhance vehicle handling and passenger safety. However, due to high costs of sensors and limitations to sensor technologies, ordinary automobiles cannot measure the tire side-slip angle and lateral tire force directly during vehicle operation. Therefore, the accurate, affordable monitoring of lateral vehicle motion is essential. This paper presents a unified observation algorithm to simultaneously estimate the tire sideslip angle and lateral tire force of all four wheels. Firstly, an adaptive-sliding-mode observer (ASMO) is utilized to estimate the lateral tire force of each wheel. Secondly, the tire side-slip angle of each wheel can be estimated by an adaptive compensation algorithm (ACA). Simulations and real car experiments are used to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, and extended kalman filter (EKF) is used to compare with our proposed algorithm. Results show that the designed observer can effectively estimate tire side-slip angles and lateral tire forces of all four wheels, and its performance is better than EKF. (C) 2019 Elsevier Ltd. DEVELOPMENT OF A SEEDING CONTROL METHOD BASED ON SEED HEIGHT IN THE HOPPER OF A PRECISION WHEAT DRILL

The aim of this study was to develop a control method for precise seeding that is able to keep the seed discharged quantity per flute roller rotation stable when the seed volume in the hopper is insufficient. The designed experimental equipment consists of an embedded controller, ultrasonic sensor, square hopper, stepper motor, stepper motor driver, flute roller, and pressure sensor. Seed height in the hopper was measured by an ultrasonic sensor, whose installation location was determined by the distribution of seeds in the hopper. Then, the rotational speed of the flute roller was adjusted based on seed height. A pressure sensor was used to monitor the quantity of seeds discharged per flute roller rotation. Moreover, laboratory experiments were conducted to compare the seeding control method based on seed height and the traditional seeding control method. The average seeding accuracy of the seeding control method based on seed height was 4.07% higher than the traditional seeding control method, and the seeding coefficient of variation was 3.56% less than that. The testing results show that the control method that used a compensation algorithm for rotational speed effectively improves the seeding accuracy, especially when the seed volume is insufficient.

An algorithm for improving the coefficient accuracy of wavelet packet analysis

On the basis of analyzing the cause of coefficients distortion inhered in the existing wavelet packet transform algorithms, a new method is presented to rectify the distortion and improve the accuracy. Its principle is to implement compensation calculation by using the complementary characteristic of wavelet filters. The simulation result of a typical signal shows the method is effective in improving the accuracy of wavelet packet coefficients. The influences of the compensation calculation times and vanishing moments of the wavelet are analyzed. Theoretically, the maximum error could be reduced to 25% with one time compensation calculation. The results show that with two and four times compensation calculations, the error is reduced to 10% and 2% respectively. The experiment result of the vibration signal of a roller bearing with outer ring fault shows that the proposed method can effectively magnify the amplitude of the fault frequencies in practice.
