Energy-Efficient Traffic Splitting for Time-Varying Multi-RAT Wireless Networks

This paper investigates the energy-efficient traffic splitting for time-varying wireless networks, which have been configured with multiple radio access technologies (multi-RATs). A single stream of the media content is split into multiple segments, which could be transmitted over multiple RATs simultaneously so that the complementary advantages of different RATs can be exploited. To address this problem, we formulate the traffic splitting as a long-term energy efficiency (EE) maximization problem with respect to the time-varying channel state information (CSI). An equivalent transformation method is proposed to convert the long-term nonconvex EE maximization problem into a concave optimization. To reduce the computational complexity, we develop a dynamic traffic splitting (DTS) algorithm, which iterates only one time when the network state changes. Then, we use the definition of tracking error to describe the difference between the DTS and the target optimal traffic splitting solution. After that, an adaptive-compensation traffic splitting (ACTS) algorithm is proposed to offset the tracking error so as to enhance the EE performance. More specifically, we give a sufficient condition for significantly eliminating the tracking errors of the ACTS algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed ACTS algorithm obtains the EE performance comparable with the optimal solution at the overhead of only a single iteration at each timeslot of the network state acquisition.

In view of the non-linearity of the output of the PT100 sensor, this article describes the temperature characteristics of the PT100 with a third-order model. The mathematical model of pt100 and standard thermometer IRTD is analyzed. The transfer function of pt100 and IRTD is evaluated by step response experiment. A least squares method based on transfer function is proposed as a compensation algorithm, MATLAB is used for simulation calculation. The proposed algorithm can make the maximum error of pt100 temperature measurement to 0.05, and the minimum error can reach to 0.0001, which is achieving the requirements of high precision.

A new integrated piezoelectric sensactor for eliminating the electric field interference

The piezoelectric sensactor with integrated structure normally consists of two parts: an actuating component and a sensor. The actuating component produces electric field interference, and might exert great influences on the accuracy of the sensor part, especially in high precision occasions. Therefore, in this paper, a novel approach is proposed to eliminate the effects of electric field interference. The idea of this approach is to use a compensation algorithm based on the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) to reduce the influence of electric field interference. It can improve the sensing accuracy of piezoelectric sensactor. The designed piezoelectric sensactor does not need complex algorithms or circuit designs and is simpler, easier to be fabricated and more appropriate for the field in which multilayer piezoelectric actuator is needed. A prototype of piezoelectric sensactor with integrated structure was fabricated. Simulations and experiments were conducted to verify the feasibility of the compensation algorithm. The theoretical and experimental results show that the proposed scheme can reduce 90% of the sensor error and dramatically improve the sensing performance of the piezoelectric sensactor. Modeling and identification of iron-less PMLSM end effects for reducing ultra-low-velocity fluctuations of ultra-precision air bearing linear motion stage

In this paper, a simplified thrust force model of iron-less permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (IPMLSMs) including end effects is presented. To establish the thrust force model, a magnetic flux linkage calculation algorithm is applied. The thrust force model simplifies all IPMLSM parameters into identifiable constants and demonstrates that the thrust force of the IPMLSM fluctuates periodically with the winding phase position. In addition, both static and dynamic identification experiments are performed to effectively identify the model. It is shown through ultra-low-velocity simulations of IPMLSMs using the identified thrust force model that the end effect causes velocity fluctuations, which corresponds to experimental results on an ultra-precision air bearing linear motion stage. Therefore, a feedback compensation controller based on the identified thrust force model is designed and implemented for reducing ultra-low-velocity fluctuations. Finally, comparative experimental results indicate that the compensation controller is effective and achieves a better performance in terms of ultra-low-velocity errors compared with traditional disturbance observer controllers. Low-density parity-check-Feher quadrature phase shift keying signalling with frequency-offset compensated iterative demodulation and decoding algorithm

The Feher quadrature phase shift keying (FQPSK) modulation is significantly susceptible to frequency and phase offsets under low signal-to-noise ratios. In this study, the authors proposed a serially concatenated signalling scheme with FQPSK modulation and low-density parity-check coding, which could efficiently resist residual frequency offset by employing an intended compensation algorithm. The designed maximum-likelihood estimation-enabled compensation algorithm is incorporated into the iterative concatenated demodulation-decoding process by using soft-input-soft-output-based maximum-a-posteriori-probability criterion. On the other side, the codeword sequence to be transmitted at the sender is re-arranged in a pre-configured order different from original codeword, in order to help the compensation algorithm diminish the impacts of frequency offsets. Simulation results show that the bit error rate of the proposed scheme can be improved efficiently up to three orders of magnitude with the frequency offsets from 100 to 700 ppm.

Simultaneous Measurement of Temperature and Pressure Based on Ring-Shaped Sensing Structure With Polymer Coated No-Core Fiber

A ring-shaped structure based on polymer coated no-core fiber (NCF) is presented for simultaneous temperature and pressuremeasurements. The sensing structure is fabricated by splicing the partially coated NCF between single-mode fibers and bending it into a loop. The anti-resonance effect is formed in the NCF and the resonant dips have wavelength shift responses to the temperature and displacement variations. It should be noted that the increase of temperature leads to a decrease in the polymer coating refractive index and changes the displacement measurement sensitivity, thus, the compensation algorithm is required to resolve this cross-sensitivity problem. Combining the ring-shaped structure with the elastic diaphragm encapsulation can convert seawater pressure into structural deformation displacement to achieve pressuremeasurement. The experimentaland simulation results showthat this sensor offers a high temperature sensitivity of -5.098 nm/degrees C with the resolution of 2 x 10(-4) degrees C and a pressure sensitivity of -2.368 nm/MPa with the resolution of 0.4 x 10(-3) MPa. In addition, the sensing performances could be changed by adjusting the NCF size and the ring-shaped structure diameter, which enables this sensing structure to have a broader application potential for seawater parameter measurement.

A study on the injection characteristics of a liquid-phase liquefied petroleum gas injector for air-fuel ratio control

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is widely used as a gaseous fuel in spark ignition engines because of its considerable advantages over gasoline. However, the LPG engine suffers a torque loss because the vapour-phase LPG displaces a larger volume of air than do gasoline droplets. In order to improve engine power as well as fuel consumption and air-fuel ratio control, considerable research has been devoted to improving the LPG injection system. In the liquid-phase LPG injection systems, the injection rate of an injector is affected by the fuel temperature, injection pressure, and driving voltage. When injection conditions change, the air-fuel ratio should be accurately controlled in order to reduce exhaust emissions. In this study, correction factors for the fuel injection rate are developed on the basis of fuel temperature, injection pressure, and injector driving voltage. A compensation method to control the amount of injected fuel is proposed for a liquid-phase LPG injection control system. The experimental results show that the liquid-phase LPG injection system works well over the entire range of engine speeds and load conditions, and the air-fuel ratio can be accurately controlled by using the proposed compensation algorithm.

ACCURATE ROUNDING SCHEME FOR THE NEWTON-RAPHSON METHOD USING REDUNDANT BINARY REPRESENTATION

This paper proposes a new algorithm of estimation and compensation of the error effect for rounding in the case of implementation of division and square root using the Newton-Raphson method. First, we analyze the error of the hardware system to confirm the condition of the implementation with respect to this algorithm. Next, we describe in detail how to compensate the error by using this algorithm. Finally, we show that the hardware components for this algorithm, the direct rounding mechanism in the recode circuit and the sticky digit generating circuit, can be realized simply by improving the redundant binary representation multiplier. The number of increasing cycles for this new algorithm is only one, and the rounding result using this algorithm satisfies IEEE Standard 754 rounding perfectly.

A parallel switched-current AID converter is presented. Eight time-interleaved snitched-current ADCs operating at 4 M sample/s are used to increase the sampling rate. With channel compensation, the measured SFDR is > 50 dB at 32 M sample/s with f(in) = 1.13 MHz. The performance of this experimental design is limited by noise and a fixed-pattern timing error that is not removed by the compensation algorithm.

Efficient contingency analysis of power systems using linear power flow with generalized warm-start compensation

Contingency analysis (CA) is fundamental to power system planning and operation. The compensation method and linear power flow (LPF) models are frequently used in CA to boost efficiency. However, the conventional compensation scheme fails to adapt to modern LPF models with novel structures. To bridge this gap, this paper proposes a generalized warm-start compensation algorithm (GWSCA) for LPFs. To efficiently calculate the inversion of a perturbed coefficient matrix in LPF models, a generalized decomposition method is devised based on the matrix inverse lemma and full rank decomposition. A warm-start strategy is developed to improve the computational accuracy by using the precontingency operating point of a power grid. The proposed GWSCA is incorporated with an LPF model based on logarithmic transformation of voltage magnitudes to implement fast and accurate CA. Simulation results show that GWSCA outperforms the conventional algorithms in terms of computational efficiency and accuracy.
