Simplified double switching SVPWM implementation for three-level VSI

A generalised space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) framework for the realisation of all double switching states with a memory-optimised method is proposed to reduce the total harmonic distortion (THD) and to provide neutral point voltage balancing for three-level NPC voltage source inverter (VSI). The proposal provides an efficient SVPWM implementationwith reduced hardware requirement and zero increase in software complexity in comparison to the existing schemes. Microcontroller analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) hardware replaces multichannel ADC and associated Field programmable gate array hardware in this proposal. The proposed method follows digital control architecture and eliminates the need to sample phase voltages separately. The proposed algorithm samples rms voltage of one phase and generates eight bit modulation index command by a suitable compensation algorithm. The implemented SVPWM algorithm takes the modulation index command value and generates phase voltage values by multiplying with the stored sine angle values. Gate pulses are generated in the proposed implementation by the hardware pulse width modulation (PWM) block and there is no need for digital-to-analogue converter. The proposed strategy is validated with a fundamental frequency of 50 Hz on a 2 KVA three-phase three-level insulated gate bipolar transistor-based VSI using low-cost PIC microcontroller. The superiority of the proposed method lies in providing an efficient three-level SVPWM implementation with reduced THD, neutral point voltage balancing, reduced hardware requirement, small lookup table and zero increase in the software computing overhead.

SUPNET: An end-to-end solution to scalable unstructured P2P networking

Despite many improvements on original unstructured P2P networks, these systems still suffer from several problems, the most important of which are, (a) lack of guarantees on the integrity of the network topology in the face of churns, (b) excessive traffic cost and (c) poor quality of search results. This paper introduces an end-to-end scalable unstructured P2P networking solution called SUPNET to address many of these issues. SUPNET is based on our pragmatic, design oriented approach to engineering complex networks. Rather than modeling dynamical behavior in already-existing networks, we actively design and implement local stochastic dynamics so that an engineered global system, with predictable structures emerges. The resulting protocol, SUPNET, consists of two sub-protocols for network management and content search. The network management sub-protocol is scalable and highly robust and is capable of utilizing the heterogeneous distribution of network resources. Its high stability is the result of implementation of a novel distributed feedback mechanism. The search sub-protocol is capable of locating every item, even if a single copy of that item exists in the network, while producing a traffic that scales provably sub-linear with the network size. It also contains mechanisms for very efficient location of popular items as well as distributed parameter tuning algorithms. These, along with inherently self-organized and de-centralized operation, relative ease of implementation and solid analytical foundation, make SUPNET a compelling solution for unstructured P2P networking.

In the precision measurement of involute helical gears, the alignment angle error of a gear axis, which was caused by the assembly error of a gear measuring machine, will affect the measurement accuracy of profile deviation. A model of the involute helical gear is established under the condition that the alignment angle error of the gear axis exists. Based on the measurement theory of profile deviation, without changing the initial measurement method and data process of the gear measuring machine, a compensation method is proposed for the alignment angle error of the gear axis that is included in profile deviation measurement results. Using this method, the alignment angle error of the gear axis can be compensated for precisely. Some experiments that compare the residual alignment angle error of a gear axis after compensation for the initial alignment angle error were performed to verify the accuracy and feasibility of this method. Experimental results show that the residual alignment angle error of a gear axis included in the profile deviation measurement results is decreased by more than 85% after compensation, and this compensation method significantly improves the measurement accuracy of the profile deviation of involute helical gear.

Rain attenuation and Doppler shift compensation for satellite communications

In high-speed multimedia satellite communication systems, it is essential to provide high-quality, economical services by using efficient transmission schemes which can overcome channel impairments appearing in the satellite link. This paper introduces techniques to compensate for rain attenuation and the Doppler shift in the satellite communication link. An adaptive transmission technique with a control algorithm to adaptively allocate transmission schemes is used as a countermeasure to rain attenuation. We introduce a new rain attenuation modeling technique for estimating system performance and propose a novel Doppler shift compensation algorithm with reduced hardware complexity. Extensive simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide greatly enhanced performance compared to conventional algorithms. Simulation software and hardware which incorporate the proposed technique are also demonstrated.

In order to enhance the visual quality of Liquid Crystal Display (LCD-LED) while minimizing power consumption, local dimming algorithms have been proposed. The algorithm consists of a backlight signal extraction algorithm and a pixel compensation algorithm. It adjusts the brightness of the backlight matrix based on the characteristics of the input image, and then the pixel compensation algorithm compensates for the pixel detail loss caused by backlight dimming, thereby achieving the goal of improving contrast and suppressing power consumption. Since images with different characteristics require different local dimming algorithms, a single set of algorithms is difficult to meet the needs of different images. Therefore, this paper presents a pixel compensation algorithm based on deep learning. Empirical results demonstrate that this algorithm outperforms traditional methods in terms of contrast, peak signal-to-noise ratio, and structural similarity.

Active power compensators have been extensively using the time domain compensation theories. However, they are not able to separately recognize and compensate power properties regarding the load-terminal characteristics (i.e. unbalance, distorted and so on). The CPC theory in the frequency domain, on the contrary, can accurately recognize the load-terminal components in three-phase three-wire systems. Nevertheless, the CPC-based compensation algorithm is not easy to implement in terms of hardware requirements even in three-wire systems because of intensive Fourier decompositions. This paper intends to analyze the applicability and performance of a switch-mode compensator controlled by advanced generalized theory of instantaneous power (A-GTIP) based on the CPC theory. The focus will be the oscillating instantaneous powers that lead to torque oscillations in a weak micro-grid. First, the CPC theory are redefined in the time-domain based on the A-GTIP definitions. Then, it is shown that an advanced universal power quality conditioning system (AUPQS) can effectively recognize and accurately compensate the physical components of the source-end currents in three-phase four-wire systems. Effectiveness of the proposed AUPQS is confirmed by Matlab/Simulink simulations.

In this paper, an accurate fault location algorithm based on parameter identification using single-ended data is presented. It is inferred from the differential equations of fault state network and fault component network based on the R-L transmission lines model. And it takes the resistance and inductance of the system behind the fault point, the fault distance and fault resistance as unknown variables. These four unknown variables can be expressed by the coefficients of fault location equations and, therefore, can be obtained by solving those coefficients. When it comes to the distributed parameter transmission lines, an improved algorithm, combining filtering and compensating, is carried out to reduce the model error. Theoretical analysis and simulation results prove that this algorithm is of high accuracy and low time-consumption. Besides, it doesn't need iteration and the solution is unique.

When testing earthquake simulation shaking tables, it is commonly assumed that the test load, table, and actuator are integrated, which differs significantly from the actual situation and negatively impacts the accuracy of system waveform reproduction. This paper simplifies the connection between the three as a spring-damping model for simulation modeling. The effects of different load mass, different connection intrinsic frequency, different connection damping ratios, and other factors on the control performance of the system are analyzed, and based on the results of the analysis, a method to improve the effects of the connection characteristics on the performance of the system, called flexible connection reaction force compensation algorithm, is proposed. Resonance peaks caused by flexible connections reduce the effective bandwidth. To broaden the bandwidth and enhance system stability, the paper introduces a flexible connection force compensation algorithm based on a multi-parameter control algorithm to compensate for the interaction force caused by the connection characteristics. This compensation strategy expands the effective bandwidth, eliminates resonance peaks, improves the waveform correlation coefficient (CC), and reduces the root-mean-square error (RMSE).

The construction features of autocollimation systems for measurement the large-sized and extended objects deformations at industry, power and scientific instrument making are considered. The conditions of increase of a distance of measurement are analyzed in comparison with the serial autocollimation devices. The error of measurement by the restriction of a working beam is investigated. The structure of algorithm for reduces the systematic error of the measurement which based on received analytical expression of function of an error is determined.
