Mutually orthogonal complementary sets (MOCS) have been employed in multi-carrier phase-coded (MCPC) signals and Direct-Sequence code Division Multiple Access (CDMA-DS), as well as other radar and communications systems involving multiple carriers or multiple transmit and/or receive stations. We introduce a new, simple matrix formulation for MOCS and show that it is useful for developing constructions of larger MOCS from smaller ones. In addition, We introduce the idea of MOCS cliques, and show they can be used for constructing infinite chains of MOCS of progressively larger sizes. Finally, we identify, for several low-order cases, all existing maximum-size MOCS cliques up to equivalencies.

This paper considers the optimal training design for broadband generalized spatial modulation systems over frequency-selective channels using a novel class of code sets introduced, called "symmetrical Z-complementary code sets", whose aperiodic auto-and cross-correlation sums exhibit zero-correlation zones at both the front-end and tail-end of the entire correlation window. Two constructions of (op-timal) symmetrical Z-complementary code sets based on generalized Boolean functions are presented. Numerical evaluations indicate that the proposed training sequences for generalized spatial modulation can achieve optimal channel estimation performance and outperform other classes of sequences. Binary complementary code sets offer a possibility that single binary codes cannot -zero aperiodic autocorrelation sidelobe levels. These code sets can be viewed as the columns of so-called complementary code matrices, or CCMs. This matrix formulation is particularly useful in gaining the insight needed for developing an efficient exhaustive search for complementary code sets. An exhaustive search approach is described, designed to find all sets of K complementary binary codes of length N, for specified N and K. Results for several cases are examined.

A set of unimodular (or binary) code vectors is complementary if the sum of the aperiodic autocorrelation sidelobes is zero, for every sidelobe. complementary code sets are constructed using a matrix formulation in which code vectors form the columns of a matrix, called a complementary code Matrix, or CCM. Known construction methods for Hadamard matrices are examined and found to apply to the larger class of CCMs, in some cases with the addition or strengthening of conditions. These constructions include the Sylvester, Williamson, and Kronecker Product constructions. Additional approaches for creating new CCMs from available CCMs are introduced and discussed. A future paper will focus on existence results for binary CCMs, and on parametric families of unimodular CCMs.

This paper considers the optimal training for generalized spatial modulation systems. First, a training framework for broadband generalized spatial modulation systems is proposed. Then, we introduce a novel class of code sets, called "symmetrical Z-complementary code sets", whose aperiodic auto- and cross-correlation sums exhibit zero-correlation zones at both the frontend and tail-end of the entire correlation window. A construction of optimal symmetrical Z-complementary code sets based on generalized Boolean functions is presented. Furthermore, we apply symmetrical Z-complementary code sets to design optimal training sequences for broadband generalized spatial modulation systems over frequency-selective channels.

A code set for a robust 8.25 Mb/s data rate for IEEE 802.11b WLANs

In this paper, a code set for an 8.25-Mb/s data rate is proposed for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 802.11b system, which can act as a better fallback option than a 5.5-Mb/s data rate when an 11-Mb/s data rate is not sustainable in a large delay-spread channel environment. We present a systematic procedure for the design of the code set. The proposed code set works at significantly higher path loss when compared to an 11-Mb/s data rate in moderate to large delay-spread channel environment. We also discuss the resource requirement for including the proposed data rate in the existing 802.11b transceiver and note that the additional hardware is minimal. Since the current WIreless FIdelity chipsets are enabled with the 802.11g option, we investigated the performance of the proposed data rate and the 6- and 9-Mb/s data rates provided by 802.11g, and the results show that the 8.25-Mb/s data rate is a reliable fallback option compared to the 9-Mb/s rate when the 11-Mb/s data rate is not sustainable. The 8.25-Mb/s data rate is shown to work at 1.7 dB higher path loss when compared to the 9-Mb/s rate in a frequently occurring moderate delay-spread channel.

Golay Pairs Having Larger Swap sets

Binary Golay pairs are examined with an interest in finding examples, in which members of the pair can be replaced with other codes sharing the same autocorrelation, but not due to negation and reversal. These are referred to as shared-autocorrelation (or shared-ACS) Golay pairs. Golay pairs can always formed from other Golay pairs by reversing and/or negating codes in those pairs;the discovery of other possibilities offers the promise of enhanced unpredictability by waveform diversity. A 1998 paper by Djokovic, which lists such pairs at lengths 32 and 40, is used as evidence that such pairs not only exist, but also likely exist in significant numbers. A common structure in these codes is determined, and conditions found for half-codes that can be employed to form larger examples. Furthermore, a necessary condition is found for code lengths allowing these shared-ACS Golay pairs.

Mutually-Orthogonal complementary sets (MOCS) offer an option for multi-channel phase-coded (MCPC) signals. They are used to avoid interference when similarly coded waveforms are propagated in parallel channels. Although defined between pairs of signals, the concept can be extended to more than two signals by the graph -theoretic concept of a clique. An earlier paper found all the MOCS cliques of maximal size for order 2 and 4 using exhaustive search. However, the complexity for such an approach is prohibitive after order 4. In this paper, maximal order-8 MOCS cliques are found using straightforward constructions.
