Optimizing K² trees: A case for validating the maturity of network of practices

Of late there has been considerable interest in the efficient and effective storage of large-scale network graphs, such as those within the domains of social networks, web and virtual communities. The representation of these data graphs is a complex and challenging task and arises as a result of the inherent structural and dynamic properties of a community network, whereby naturally occurring churn can severely affect the ability to optimize the network structure. Since the organization of the network will change over time, we consider how an established method for storing large data graphs (K-2 tree) can be augmented and then utilized as an indicator of the relative maturity of a community network. Within this context, we present an algorithm and a series of experimental results upon both real and simulated networks, illustrating that the compression effectiveness reduces as the community network structure becomes more dynamic. It is for this reason we highlight a notable opportunity to explore the relevance between the K-2 tree optimization factor with the maturity level of the network community concerned. Flow regime recognition of two-phase flow is of great importance in industrial process. This paper describes the role of the field-programmable gate array(FPGA) hardware, in the implementation of electrical resistance tomography(ERT), which is used to analyze gas/liquid two phase flows. Firstly, a brief introduction and some theoretical analysis are made about the basic principles of Direct Digital Synthesizer(DDS). Then a signal source for ERT system based on DDS and FPGA is designed and a kind of compression ROM is realized. The whole system has been simulated in the Quartus II 7.2 simulation environment and successfully downloaded to the chip of the Cyclone II EP2C5F256C6. The operating results and the theoretical results show that the proposed method can greatly improve the developing efficiency, save plenty of the system resources and improve the reliability and flexibility.

The IP layer security standard, Internet Protocol Security (IPSec) was promulgated by the IETF in 1998. IPSec has achieved the integrity and confidentiality of data transmission and greatly improved the security of IP data packet transmission. Since Security Association (SA) lookup is the basis of IPSec process, how to quickly and accurately get SA has become the key to protocol process. This paper implements existing software and hardware methods of SA lookup, analyzes lookup speed, resources occupation and working stability. To solve the disadvantages of the mentioned methods, we proposed a hardware implementation method based on Random Access Memory (RAM). Validated by Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), we conducted a comparative analysis with other methods. Comparison results show that it has a high lookup rate, flexible control of lookup time, low resource cost, simple structure, and high working stability. So it is an ideal lookup mechanism suitable for high-stability, resource-constrained, and high-speed IPSec process environments.

ZigBee is a wireless communication technology which based on IEEE 802.15.4 protocol, communicating within short distance and with low power. ZigBee is applied in cantilever beam vibration measurement system in this paper, and the old wired transmission system are substituted by IEEE 802.15.4, software and sensor circuit are designed, reliable data transmission method and half byte compression algorithm are analyzed, and also provide basis and data analyzing solution for dynamics model of cantilever beam which using piezoelectric transducer. Experimental results show that with wireless ZigBee transmission solution and compression algorithm, the acquisition data of 150 bytes per second can be achieved, which will improve the quality of vibration analysis. The success of the large scale deployment of sensor actuator devices lies in their plug&play capabilities: they should be automatically discovered and ready to be used when they join to an environment. Self-description and discovery gain therefore a particular importance. Nevertheless, there is currently no largely adopted energy efficient device description and discovery standard. Existing protocols use proprietary device description models and discovery mechanisms that are incompatible between the two. This paper presents LRD2 (Low Resource Device Description), a generic description model capable of describing different kinds of device information. LRD2 implements a compression algorithm to reduce the size of description documents, thus saving energy by reducing the number of messages sent in the network. Experimental results about the performance of LRD2 are also presented.

Nowadays Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) are an improved technology for developing high-performance embedded systems. SRAM-based FPGAs offers the possibility of in-the-field reconfiguration that results in the ability to adapt the product to modified user's requirements, to enrich the product's features, or simply to correct bugs. With the advent of multi-million gate FPGAs, the size of the configuration information that defines what circuit the FPGA implements has increased drastically, and thus the amount of external memory needed to keep the configuration data is increasing dramatically. In this work we developed a novel configuration compression system that exploits internal configuration mechanism of modem SRAM-based FPGAs and results in high compression efficiency. The proposed system is applicable to any modem SRAM-based FPGA devices having an embedded microprocessor core since the configuration data are processed as raw data. Moreover, the proposed approach does not require any external hardware support and allows high speed dynamic reconfiguration. Experimental results on Xilinx SRAM-based FPGAs platform implementing several real-world circuits demonstrated 82% savings in memory on the average.

A cost effective, easy to manage, elastic and powerful resources over the internet is provided to the users by cloud environment. The resource pooling allows the use of same pool by multiple users through multi tenancy and virtualization technology. The VM Migration is the process of relocating a VM to another physical machine without shutting down the VM. The Virtual Migration is carried out for the number of reasons such as load balancing, fault tolerance and maintenance with respect to pooling and memory space management. Memory space prediction method used to predict the free memory space and allocate the memory to the new processes or the requested user. Memory allocation then becomes a selection function of selecting appropriate memory space according to the user needs a capacity. The free memory spaces are listed in the free list. It's helpful for easy allocation. During the migration phase, the contents of the VM are exposed to the network that might lead to data privacy and integrity concerns. Besides data, the space used by VM for storage and communication is also vulnerable to attackers during migration. To reduce the data loss due to attack on memory space to increase the confidentiality of the data which is migrated, here it is designed and implemented a new scheme for Virtual Machine Migration using Memory Space Prediction with compression method for storage using a cryptic methodology. The prediction based compression algorithm used to transfer data in compressed manner, it also decreases the migration time and down time and the hash algorithm used to increases the data confidentiality and security.

The length of time that a wireless sensor can be deployed is limited by its internal power supply. To increase the deployment lifetime of these sensors we must find ways to conserve power. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that reduces the amount of energy the transceiver consumes by compressing the bytes that are sent and received over the network. The algorithm compresses a data stream by exploiting its temporal locality and is designed to function efficiently on an unreliable network in real-time. A stream is compressed by using fewer bits to represent elements that frequently recur. We evaluate the proposed compression algorithm using a collection of independently collected traces from the crawdad database. We calculated the compression ratio for each trace and found that we were able to reduce the number of bytes transmitted by an average of 60%, resulting in a 30% increase in energy savings.

A basic tenet of wireless sensor networks is that processing of data is less expensive in terms of power than transmitting data. A data compression method is proposed to limit the amount of data transmitted within the network. In this paper, we propose a novel data compression algorithm suitable for low power computing devices. In our method, a data point density algorithm is used to determine which points to discard in a given data region. This algorithm is applied to uniform sections throughout the entirety of the data set. Regions with the highest data point density will be represented by a single point. The resulting data points then form the compressed data set. The transmission and subsequent processing of this compressed data set will cause less strain on the network than the original data set, while still maintaining the required information of the original data set. A tool is developed to test the method and compare it with other methods.

Subsurface images are widely used by the oil companies to find oil reservoirs. The construction of these images involves to collect and process a huge amount of seismic data. Generally, the oil companies use compression algorithms to reduce the storage and transmission costs. Currently, the compression process is developed on-site using CPU architectures, whereas the construction of the subsurface images is developed on GPU clusters. For this reason, the decompression process has to be developed on GPU architectures. So, fast and parallel decompression algorithms are required to be implemented on GPUs. We implemented an algorithm that performs the decompression of seismic traces on GPU. The algorithm is based on a 2D Lifting Wavelet Transform. The decompression algorithm was developed in CUDA 6.5 and implemented into a GeForce GTX660 GPU. This algorithm was tested using different data sets supplied by an oil company. Experimental results allowed us to establish how the compression ratio affects the performance of our algorithm. Additionally, we also show how the number of threads per block affects this performance.
