The excessively long Segment Identifier (SID) list in SRv6 challenges the promotion of SRv6 network slicing in cloudedge collaborative network. In this paper, we studied the problem of packet overhead during SRv6 SID processing in SRv6 network slicing services. We first design a new mechanism called Behavior Expression Slicing (BES) mechanism to establish the feasibility of dynamically virtual address allocation as well as SID compression based on adjacency information. Then we propose an algorithm to optimize compression efficiency in proposed BES mechanism. The simulation results indicate that the compression rate of the proposed mechanism and algorithm can reach over 75%.

This paper conducts a comparative analysis of the impact of unsparsing by data scaling on lossless data compression methods. The most commonly used data compression algorithms such as gzip, zlib, bzip2, and lzma are tested by their compression efficiency in unsparsed datasets by the performance metrics such as compression time, decompression time, and compression ratio for both the original and scaled datasets. Five different data scaling techniques are investigated to transform the original data into unsparsed data such as min-max, robust, absolute max, standardization, and normalization. Our research reveals relationships between data scaling methodologies and compression performance, with disparities in compression efficiency and computational complexity. Fur-thermore, we investigate the effects of scaling on compression ratio and provide results for improving the understanding of the factors that influence lossless data compression methods for non-sparse tabular data.

Video coding systems have enormous external memory bandwidth requirements, especially for ultra-high-definition (UHD) applications. However, due to cost and power constraints, the available bandwidth in video devices is limited. Consequently, reducing the required memory bandwidth is of paramount importance. In this paper, a lossy reference frame compression scheme is proposed to address this challenge. It includes two core technologies: 1) an address table storage scheme for random accessibility and 2) low complexity AVS Perceptual Lossless compression (PLC) compression algorithm. Under fixed compression ratios of 2:1 and 1.5:1, the proposed scheme achieves a $64 \times 4$ block-level random access. Rigorous subjective and objective quality assessments verify the feasibility of the proposed solution. Experimental results demonstrate that the BD-Rate of luma is 0.81% and 0.2% for the 2:1 and 1.5:1 compression ratios, respectively, indicating a negligible impact on compression efficiency. This significant reduction in memory bandwidth requirements is achieved while preserving the video quality.

The transmission of patients' medical images over the network increases the instances of fraud involving the theft of patient information. Crypto-compression schemes are used to ensure high security for medical images and better compression, which is necessary for efficient network transmission. In this paper, I propose a new crypto-compression scheme and a novel lossless compression algorithm based on an improved version of the Lempel-Ziv 77 algorithm, which uses a sliding window of 64 KB in size, combined with a variation of the RLC algorithm. Unlike other methods, the proposed crypto-compression scheme employs a double level of security ensured by the ElGamal cryptosystem based on elliptic curves and the XChaCha20 stream cipher, thus providing more secure transmission of images. The crypto-compression scheme (ECX-LZ-RLC) proposed in this paper is compared with four modern crypto-compression methods, such as JPEG-AES, FMT-AES, JPEG-EC-LFSR, and EC-ElGamal. Experimental results show that ECX-LZ-RLC provides a higher compression rate and a better average crypto-compression time compared to other modern crypto-compression schemes, evaluated for grayscale and RGB medical images with different resolutions, taken from certain datasets.

With the rapid development of automated terminals, it has greatly contributed to the rapid economic growth. However, the rapid development of terminals has led to a rapid increase in the data that needs to be stored. Storing all the massive terminal data without compression requires a huge amount of storage space, while online transmission consumes a large amount of network bandwidth and puts a lot of pressure on the data transmission lines. In practice, the collected sequence data are not always variable and valuable, and may contain a lot of redundant data, which is detrimental to the analysis efficiency and storage space of the data. Meanwhile, for data with different attributes, the compression methods adopted should be different. To address such issues, this paper proposes a fusion lossy and lossless data compression method based on signal attributes, where the lossy compression algorithm adopts compression perception and the lossless compression algorithm adopts LZW coding. For important data, only the lossless compression method is adopted to prevent the loss of important information; for general data, the fusion lossy and lossless compression method is adopted to improve the compression rate.

For the archiving of mammograms, the FDA requires lossless image compression. Using near-lossless compressors for temporary examination of medical images could be advantageous “if the interpreting physician deems that acceptable”. However, the FDA [1] states, “we do not believe there is consensus on what loss of information is acceptable”. To address this concern, we present a new near-lossless compression algorithm for grayscale medical images that guarantees a minimum PSNR value.

Image compression uses various lossy methods, each creating different distortions. Understanding these distortions is key for optimizing image enhancement and steganography, as they affect quality and detectability. Detection of compression algorithms is essential especially when file extensions are altered. This study presents a method for identifying compression algorithms - JPEG, AVIF, HEIC, and WebP, using a fine-tuned vision transformer model. The model achieved 98% validation and 99% test accuracy and shows premising results.

The evaluation of picture and video high-quality metrics for compression techniques is a vital study location that offers perception into the effectiveness of different compression algorithms. Best metrics are equipment used to measure the level of degradation of a photo or video because of compression. Those metrics can be divided into objective metrics, which measure the numerical variations between the original and compressed photograph or video, and subjective metrics, which measure the perceived best from a human factor of view. A selection of metrics has been advanced for assessing photograph and video compression strategies in recent years. It includes algorithms such as suggested squared errors, peak signal-to-noise ratio, and structural similarity index. Moreover, compression-specific metrics, which include bit-fee, compression ratio, and other functions, are frequently used to measure the effectiveness of algorithms. By evaluating those metrics to a general or reference, it is possible to degree the pleasantness of a given compression technique. Furthermore, studying the results of excellent metrics can provide treasured feedback for improving compression algorithms. In the end, the analysis of image and video metrics for compression techniques is vital for measuring the effectiveness of algorithms and enhancing their overall performance.

This paper delves into recent hardware implementations of the Lempel-Ziv 4 (LZ4) algorithm, highlighting two key factors that limit the throughput of single-kernel compressors. Firstly, the actual parallelism exhibited in single-kernel designs falls short of the theoretical potential. Secondly, the clock frequency is constrained due to the presence of the feedback loops. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel scheme that restricts each parallelization window to a single match, thus elevating the level of actual parallelism. Furthermore, by restricting the maximum match length, we eliminate the feedback loops within the architecture, enabling a significant boost in throughput. Finally, we present a high-speed hardware architecture. The implementation results demonstrate that the proposed architecture achieves a throughput of up to 16.10 Gb/s, exhibiting a 2.648× improvement over the start-of-the-art. The new design only results in an acceptable compression ratio reduction ranging from 4.93% to 11.68% with various numbers of hash table entries, compared to the LZ4 compression ratio achieved by official software implementations disclosed on GitHub.

Hardware-based, high-throughput data compression is a promising approach to reduce data movement costs in largescale systems and networks, thereby improving overall performance and power efficiency. However, since a data compression algorithm is only effective if it is suitable for the characteristics of the target data, data compression hardware with a fixed algorithm is unrealistic for use in general-purpose environments. To address this challenge, we have been researching adaptive bandwidth compression (ABC) hardware that flexibly provides an effective algorithm depending on the input data. This paper presents the design and the Chisel-based implementation of the ABC hardware platform for encoding compressed data and generating output blocks, as well as introducing a quantization parameter to reduce the circuit area. Our evaluation shows that the proposed quantization parameter can not only reduce the hardware cost, but also control the trade-off between the effective compression ratio and the hardware cost. In addition, based on the evaluation results, we discuss the design optimization of the ABC hardware platform.
