With the resolution of video sequences increasing, the memory bandwidth and space requirement has become one bottleneck of a video coding system. Most of previous frame memory compression works merely focused on reducing the averaged bandwidth demand. In this paper, a lossless frame memory compression algorithm for motion estimation in HEVC and the corresponding hardware architecture are described. The compression algorithm is composed of the 64×4 partition compression algorithm and the partition group table based storage scheme. Experimental results demonstrate that, on average, the proposed algorithm reduces 70.1% memory bandwidth and 41% memory space, while saving 59.0% dynamic energy. With TSMC 90nm CMOS logic technology, our algorithm were implemented in a parallel VLSI architecture of compressor and decompressor at the cost of 48.1K and 44.2K respectively in gate-count. The achieved peak throughput is 1.51Gpixel/s, which is sufficient to handle the SHV(8K)@30fps real-time encoding with the level-D reference data reuse scheme.

Contour compression is to encode the boundaries of objects and important for object-orient image compression and cartoon-like image compression. In this paper, we propose an advanced algorithm to perform lossy compression for contours. First, we find that among all curves, the 3rd order polynomial is most suitable for contour compression. Second, we suggest that, instead of encoding the coefficients of curves directly, it is more efficient to encode the heights of curves. Moreover, we apply an alternative definition of curvature to find the dominant points. Furthermore, we apply the improved version of adaptive arithmetic coding, including increasing the probabilities of the values with the same sign or with similar amplitudes, to encode the heights of curves. Simulations show that, when the error is similar, the proposed algorithm requires much less number of bits than other existing methods for contour compression.

In this paper a new compression scheme has been formulated based on jointly delta modulation with biasing and Run Length Encoding technique for Direct Normalized Solar Irradiance data. The key features of this compression Algorithm (Delta Modulation with Biasing and Run Length Encoding techniques viz. DMBRLE) are: it requires less memory as it belongs to direct compression method and its lossless nature. The main Goal of this algorithm has been achieved by compressing successive same sample elements as well as low frequency sample changes region. This is substantiated on jointly First Sample Difference (FSD) and S-Run Length Encoding (S-RLE) techniques. FSD is modified to concentrate at low frequency spectra. Simultaneously S-Run length Encoding is structured to fix the region having successive same sample value. The compression Algorithm is modified stepwise and its effect on that is a large non-linear in nature. However, the quality of the recovered signal is demonstrated by computing Normalized Root Mean Square Error (NRMES). The result establishes that this developed compression scheme increases the compression Ratio up to a reasonable value without threw off the Lossless nature.

Image compression has an important role in the area of transmission and stores the lossless image compression. The aim of this project is to increase the image compression ratio and also the PSNR value, compress the large size of images in to small size. When the compression is high to compare the other algorithm of parameters it is a best of image compression algorithm. Thus the meaning of compression is to reduce the size of images. This small size of image files are used to store in the memory disk, and also used to reducing the transmitting time. To compare the parameters of compression algorithm is the SPIHT algorithm is the best algorithm of compression algorithm because it has a high compression ratio.

We demonstrate a novel location aware services framework termed COMA for efficient compression and map-matching of road-network graph data. Key innovations include working demonstration of a new compression algorithm to eliminate nodes and edges that do not affect graph connectivity while ensuring object location map-matching accuracy. The demonstration features: (1) Algorithm to leverage compressed versions of road-network graphs for map-matching of objects locations to correct road edges without decompression, (2) Upwards of 75% compression ratio implying significant savings for road network data transmission costs, a key constraint for internet of things (IOT) devices, and (3) Use of a new controllable parameter, termed conflict factor C, whereby location aware services can trade the compression efficiency with map-matching accuracy at varying granularity. In addition to above features the demonstration features an extensible framework that enables experimentation and comparison between various compression and map-matching algorithms in a rich interactive interface. In this paper we outline data management challenges for location aware services using various scenarios for compression of a real road-network map of a large region of United States, along with both real and synthetic moving object trajectories distributed over this map. We describe the COMA framework through its map-based Graphical User Interface, ability to select the area of interest from the road-network map, and submit a compression request. COMA can export and save the compact versions of the selected area in different formats and plot the compressed graph over the original map for visual inspection to study the differences between compressed and uncompressed versions and various related statistics.

Information technology is growing very rapidly, in particular for data handling. Data is a valuable asset for everyone, especially for larger companies with branches in several places. Data transmission from headquarters to branch offices make the company must provide good tools to do it. These companies also need tools that can be used to compress data to reduce their size. The main idea of the word-based encoding is to extract each word of the source text, then it is checked whether containing capital letters or not. After that, it is checked if there is a symbol or number. The particle will be separated from the basic word using stemming algorithm. Symbols, numbers and affixes will be indexed in the basic dictionary. The basic word will also be checked whether it exists in the basic dictionary or not. If there is not a match, then the word will be stored in the supplement dictionary. The experiment was conducted on the text file with the size from about 10K bytes up to 500K bytes with 16-bits length codewords. The result shows that the compression ratio of the proposed method is comparable with the previous ones, while its processing time is much better than the Reversed Sequence of Characters on LZW method.

Nowadays in industry, data acquisition system signals are often compressed by piecewise linear trending. Many authors have indicated that compression with use of a wavelet transform provides better results. In this paper, the threshold selection algorithms, such as VisuShrink, SureShrink, BayesShrink, and NeighCoeffs are compared experimentally using real industrial data from the Damadics benchmark. The impact of the compression on the decoded signal is analysed. The results of the calculations are compared with a standard piecewise linear trending approach.

Due to their high peak performance and energy efficiency, massively parallel accelerators such as GPUs are quickly spreading in high-performance computing, where large amounts of floating-point data are processed, transferred, and stored. Such environments can greatly benefit from data compression if done sufficiently quickly. Unfortunately, most conventional compression algorithms are unsuitable for highly parallel execution. In fact, it is generally unknown how to design good compression algorithms for massively parallel systems. To remedy this situation, we study 138,240 lossless compression algorithms for single-and double-precision floating-point values that are built exclusively from easily parallelizable components. We analyze the best of these algorithms, explain why they compress well, and derive the Massively Parallel compression (MPC) algorithm from them. This novel algorithm requires almost no internal state, achieves heretofore unreached compression ratios on several data sets, and roughly matches the best CPU-based algorithms in compression ratio while outperforming them by one to two orders of magnitude in throughput.

A large amount of data is produced in the process of ultrasonic testing of rail, and it's necessary to compress the raw data with a loss-less compression algorithm. This paper analyses statistical characteristics of ultrasonic test data of rail, and makes researches on the commonly used loss-less compression algorithm, Huffman compression algorithm and LZW compression algorithm. In order to improve the performance of compression, this paper designs and implements a new loss-less compression algorithm based on the above analysis and then tests the new algorithm with a number of ultrasonic test data files of rail. The test results show that the new algorithm has a relatively high compression ratio and the compression performance is significantly better than Huffman compression algorithm and LZW compression algorithm.

With rapid technological development and growth of sequencing data, an umpteen gamut of biological data has been generated. As an alternative, Data compression is employed to reduce the size of data. In this direction, this paper proposes a new reference-based compression approach, which is employed as a solution. Firstly, a reference has been constructed from the common sub strings of randomly selected input sequences. Reference set is a pair of key and value, where key is a fingerprint (or a unique id) and value is a sequence of characters. Next, these given sequences are compressed using referential compression algorithm. This is attained by matching the input with the reference and hence, replacing the match found in input by its fingerprints contained in the reference, thereby achieving better compression. The experimental results of this paper show that the approach proposed herein, outperforms the existing approaches and methodologies applied so far.
