The domain name system (DNS) is a fundamental component of the modern Internet. In the deployment of real time DNS monitoring and analysis system, the large volume CN top level domain DNS log, especially by BIND, heavily burdens its transmission from the distributed sites to the data processing center. The redundancy of DNS query type and the repetitiveness of DNS query time, IP and domain name is utilized for the DNS log compression to facilitate its transmission. For IP and domain name compression, the algorithm relies on their time and space locality.

This paper applied the Methods which based on GEP in compress multi-streams. The contributions of this paper include: 1) giving an introduction to data function finding based on GEP(DFF-GEP), defining the main conception of Multi-Streams, and revealing the map relation in it; 2) putting forward the compression Algorithm for Multi-Streams according to map relation lied in data between data streams; and 3)providing an experience with the real data and find that (3.1) the compression ratio of the new methods is 120~150 times as the traditional wavelets method, and 35~70 times as the wavelets and coincidence method; (3.2) the relative error of the new method is about 3%, yet maximum relative error is 0.01 by using the traditional relative error standard, the precision is improved from 7% to 15% as compared with the traditional method.

This aiming at improving the lossless compression ratio of hyperspectral image, a three-dimensional LMS (3DLMS) algorithm is first deduced and applied into the field of hyperspectral image compression. A novel adaptive prediction model based on 3DLMS algorithm for lossless compression of hyperspectral image is proposed and optimized by the local casual set mean subtraction method. Experimental results on AVIRIS images show that the proposed algorithm can remove both the spatial and spectral redundancy of hyperspectral image and achieve higher image compression ratios than other state-of-the-art compression algorithms. The feasibility of 3DLMS algorithm in three-dimensional signal processing is also verified in this paper.

The impact of using different lossless compression algorithms on the compression ratios and timings when processing various biometric sample data is investigated. In particular, we relate the application of lossless JPEG, JPEG-LS, lossless JPEG2000 and SPIHT, PNG, GIF, and a few general purpose compression schemes to imagery of the following biometric modalities: fingerprint, iris, retina, face, and hand. Results differing from behaviour found with common or textured imagery are specifically discussed.

We examine the compression-complexity trade-off of lossy compression algorithms that are based on a random code-book or a random database. Motivated, in part, by some recent results of Gupta-Verdu-Weissman (GVW) and their underlying connections with the pattern-matching scheme of Kontoyiannis' lossy Lempel-Ziv algorithm, we introduce a non-universal version of the lossy Lempel-Ziv method (termed LLZ), we prove its optimality for memoryless sources, and we compare its performance to that of the GVW divide-and-conquer approach. Experimental results indicate that the GVW approach often yields better compression than LLZ, but at the price of much higher memory requirements. To combine the advantages of both, we introduce a hybrid algorithm (HYB) that utilizes both the divide-and-conquer idea of GVW and the single-database structure of LLZ. We show that HYB shares with GVW the exact same rate-distortion performance and implementation complexity, while, like LLZ, requiring much less memory, typically by at least one or two orders of magnitude. Experimental results are also presented, illustrating the performance of all three methods on data generated by simple discrete memoryless sources. In particular, the HYB scheme is shown to outperform existing schemes for the compression of some simple discrete sources with respect to the Hamming distortion criterion.

In this paper, a selective data compression scheme is developed to combine the need for efficient data transmission and the receivers' interest in changes presented in the data by taking the advantage of the fact that receivers hold a copy of previous data. Three-step pre-processing is introduced in this paper. Firstly we separate the unchanged areas (the majority) of the image from the changed areas between successive images of the same area. Secondly, the bands which are sensitive to the changes are identified with the aid of statistical measures. Finally, a binary index image of each band is generated to indicate the two categories. Following this pre-processing, compression of the unchanged areas and changed areas is conducted separately. In this way, different compression algorithms can be applied to each case. As the majority data will be unchanged and only a subset of bands reflects the changes, high compression rate is achievable.

The paper deals with prospective 3D video transmission systems that would use compression of both multiview video and depth maps. The paper addresses the problem of quality of views synthesized from other views transmitted together with depth information. For the state-of-the-art depth map estimation and view synthesize techniques, the paper proves that AVC/SVC-based multiview video coding technique can be used for compression of both view pictures and depth maps. The paper reports extensive experiments where synthesized video quality has been estimated by use of both PSNR index and subjective assessment. Defined is the critical value of depth quantization parameter as a function of the reference view quantization parameter. For smaller depth map quantization parameters, depth map compression has negligible influence on fidelity of synthesized views.

This paper presents a dynamic range compression method for improving the contrast of color images. A variable transformation is applied to the input image, depending on the local dependency of the intensity. In this work, we present a local contrast correction algorithm that allows for simultaneous lowlight region and high-light region adjustments, based on multi-scale Gaussian filtering. Also, to minimize the change in color saturation between the input and the output image, we present the linear color restoration method.

In wireless sensor networks, energy is commonly a scarce resource, which should be used as sparingly as possible to allow for long node lifetimes. It is therefore mandatory to put a focus on the development of energy-efficient applications. In this paper, we analyze the achievable energy gains when packet payloads are compressed prior to their transmission. As the radio transceiver chips are the predominant power consumers on most current sensor node platforms, we present how local compression of data can be successfully employed to preserve energy. We compare two lossless mechanisms to eliminate redundancies in the packets with regard to the overall energy savings. The results prove that data compression is a viable approach to reduce a platform's energy consumption, as it can reduce the radio transmission durations of packets and thus shorten the duty cycles of the radio device.

This work builds on previous work in the area of one dimensional lossless color compression. The previous work applied a cross entropy (CE) solution to traveling salesman problem (TSP) for color re-indexing with a Burrows-Wheeler transformation and inversion ranks. The proposed technique replaces the cross entropy based TSP algorithm with a particle swarm optimization (PSO) for the task of color re-indexing. The proposed method yields improvement over the previous work regardless of the number of colors in the image.
