A low energy sensor node processor is proposed for continuous healthcare monitoring application. The bio signal processing block is integrated into the processor to support the compression and the encryption. A quadratic level bio signal compression algorithm is proposed to reduce the transmission power consumption and the memory capacity. And the AES-128 data encryption datapath is integrated for user privacy and authentication. The CR is 8.4:1, the PRD is 0.897% and the compression rate is 6.4 Mbps. The encryption rate is 1.6 Mbps and the normalized performance is 0.4b/cycle/k-gates which is the highest value compared to the related works. The proposed processor consumes 0.56 nJ/bit at 1V supply voltage with 1MHz operating frequency in 0.25-mum CMOS process.

In this paper, the main target is to compare the system lifetimes in diverse scenarios based on our new energy dissipation model in the body sensor network as well as maximize the system lifetime of sensor nodes when they will make communication among body sensors and personal communication unit. Nowadays, the ultra low energy consumption is the very much important challenge for medical applications. The best compression technique like LPC is selected for energy saving based on some calculations. This research work studies and analyzes the transceiver energy consumption for different compression algorithms and select the best technique like LPC for energy saving. Formulation of a linear programming problem is also the important part of this research work, where is to maximize the system lifetime which is equivalent to the time until the first node runs out of battery. Maximum system lifetimes are calculated by MATLAB optimization technique using and without using efficient compression algorithm like LPC in various environments. Results show that maximum system lifetimes calculated in different scenarios using efficient compression technique like LPC is better than without using compression technique.

In order to evaluate digital color images and videos, many objective metrics have been developed over the years. Some of these metrics correlate well with the subjective perception of distortions caused by a given digital processing on such color images or videos. This work presents a comparison between subjective assessment and objective metric based on SCIELAB color space. Color image samples as well as color video samples were used in this work. The results point out that SCIELAB is better than PSNR when using still images. For motion pictures (videos), further investigations is needed.

This paper discusses a hardware accelerated implementation for PNG image decoding within LZ77 and Huffman compression algorithm without any distortion, while compare with software decoding, parallel processing is the most significant feature of high efficiency. This design utilize cooperating of software and hardware to solve the problem of controlling hardware decoder, extend Deflate algorithm of Huffman tree to achieve fast look up, so it can improve decode efficiency with lower power consume.

Re-pair is a dictionary-based compression method invented in 1999 by J. Larsson and A. Moffat [Off-line dictionary-based compression. Proc. IEEE, 88(11):1722-1732, 2000], lacking up to now an efficiency analysis. We show that re-pair compresses a sequence T[1,n] over an alphabet of size sigma to at most 2nH k + o(n log sigma) bits, for any k = o(log sigma n), where H k is either the classical information-theory or the empirical k-th order entropy (in the latter, the model is inferred from the sequence statistics).

Telemedicine & Telecare aided by wireless sensor network (WSN) has recently become a health-caring trend in the future. However, the low data rate of WSN limited the acceptable quality of service. Researches [1-6] adopted ZigBee-based WSN to implement a platform and/or a telecare system. However, the capacity problem due to low data rate characteristic has not been addressed. Our research proposed an arrhythmia-aware telecare system and a new DSP-based WSN platform, enabling good digital signal processing performance in ZigBee-based WSN. Proved by simulations and several real tests, combination of the proposed platform and system can provide a more bandwidth-conserving and reliable telecare system, with lower wireless traffic jam and higher stability.

Speed and security of data streams are two key factors in different areas such as data communication and multimedia. compression algorithms are applied to data streams to increase their communication speed while encryption algorithms are used for assuring the security of the data transfer. AES and LZ77 are two well known algorithms for data encryption and compression respectively. In this paper we propose a model to implement both algorithms, decryption and decompression, in a field programmable gate array chip. Such a design must address the issues of optimal resource usage of the FPGA, and balance between the throughput of both algorithms. Handel-C is considered as the specification language for this design.

At present, GML data compression is a hotspot in the fields of geographic information sharing, interoperability. Based on the analysis of characteristics of traditional GML data compression methods, the paper proposed a GML compressor with holistic isomorphic characteristics, which achieves semantic isomorphic compression by constructing index encodings of feature elementspsila tags and achieves spatial data isomorphic compression by clustering GML spatial data, establishing local coordinate systems and converting GML spatial data into local coordinate systems. Experimental results show that the compressor is more effective than traditional compressors. The GML compressor proposed in this paper has a certain value for theoretical and technological researches of GML data storage, query and transmission.
