Digital Elevation Model (DEM) is data used for modeling water flow. DEM data is in the form of a grid with X and Y points as coordinates and Z representing the surface elevation. One of the challenges in modeling the direction of water flow is the computational time of the algorithm to model the flow on DEM data. Based on the initial tests conducted in this study, it can be seen that the increase in computation time will always be directly proportional to the amount of data processed by the application. To overcome this problem, certain methods are needed to shorten computation time to make it more efficient. This study contributes to the existence of a computational model using a decision tree to solve the problem of finding the direction of surface water flow using the D16 algorithm. The D16 algorithm is a method for modeling the direction of surface water flow. The algorithm works by forming 16 flow directions in the search space. For testing in this study, we will compare the sequential computational model and the computational model with the decision tree that the author made to see the computational time efficiency of the D16 algorithm completion model. The test results show that modeling the direction of water flow with a decision tree produces a good computation time compared to the sequential program model, with an average computational difference of 82.66 seconds. © 2022 IEEE.

Vehicle routing problem is one of the complex and NP-hard problems, which plays a crucial role in this hectic world regarding people's lifestyle. Nowadays, many people provide their stuff online, so a logistic problem has been outstripped for companies to reduce their transportation costs. In this article, a novel approach has been introduced, which can solve the multi-depot vehicle routing problem in shorter time. By using clustering and decomposing the main problem into smaller ones, solution time has been dropped dramatically. In addition, this approach obtains a reasonable cost, which can be considered as fuel consumption, distance, or so forth. This method could reduce the solution time drastically.

Digital Luminaire Design Using LED Digital Twins-Accuracy and Reduced computation time: A Delphi4LED Methodology

Light-emitting diode (LED) digital twins enable the implementation of fast digital design flows for LED-based products as the lighting industry moves towards Industry 4.0. The LED digital twin developed in the European project Delphi4LED mimics the thermal-electrical-optical behavior of a physical LED. It consists of two parts: a package-level LED compact thermal model (CTM), coupled to a chip-level multi-domain model. In this paper, the accuracy and computation time reductions achieved by using LED CTMs, compared to LED detailed thermal models, in 3D system-level models with a large number of LEDs are investigated. This is done up to luminaire-level, where all heat transfer mechanisms are accounted for, and up to 60 LEDs. First, we characterize a physical phosphor-converted white high-power LED and apply LED-level modelling to produce an LED detailed model and an LED CTM following the Delphi4LED methodology. It is shown that the steady-state junction temperature errors of the LED CTM, compared to the detailed model, are smaller than 2% on LED-level. To assess the accuracy and the reduction of computation time that can be realized in a 3D system-level model with a large number of LEDs, two use cases are considered: (1) an LED module-level model, and (2) an LED luminaire-level model. In the LED module-level model, the LED CTMs predict junction temperatures within about 6% of the LED detailed models, and reduce the calculation time by up to nearly a factor 13. In the LED luminaire-level model, the LED CTMs predict junctions temperatures within about 1% of LED detailed models and reduce the calculation time by about a factor of 4. This shows that the achievable computation time reduction depends on the complexity of the 3D model environment. Nevertheless, the results demonstrate that using LED CTMs has the potential to significantly decrease computation times in 3D system-level models with large numbers of LEDs, while maintaining junction temperature accuracy.

Accelerating the computation for real-time application of the sinc function using graphics processing units

In magnetic resonance imaging, the fidelity of image reconstruction is an important criterion. It has been suggested that the infinite-extent sinc kernel is the ideal interpolation kernel for ensuring the reconstruction quality of non-Cartesian trajectories. However, the application of the sinc function has been limited owing to its computational overheads. Recently, graphics processing units (GPUs) have been employed as fast computation tools because of their efficient and versatile parallel computation abilities. We implemented an accelerated convolution function with the sinc kernel using GPUs computing and evaluated the reconstruction performance. The computation time was significantly improved: computation using the proposed method was approximately 270 times faster than that on a central processing unit (CPU) and approximately 4.6 times faster than that on a CPU optimized by level-3 Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms. The images reconstructed using the fast sinc function exhibited no adverse errors at all matrix sizes (resolutions). The total reconstruction time was approximately 0.3-3 s for all matrices, indicating that the sinc function could be a practical option for image reconstruction. Ultimately, its application would present a fundamental improvement to the performance of image reconstruction, and the GPU implementation of the convolution function with the sinc kernel could resolve various challenges in image data processing.

This paper focuses on the computation time and precision of a linear 2-D magnetic gear analytical model. Two main models of magnetic gears are studied: 1) the first with an infinite relative permeability of yokes and 2) the second with a finite relative permeability of yokes. These models are based on the subdomain resolution of Laplace and Poisson equations. To accurately compute the magnetic field distribution, it is necessary to take into account certain harmonics of the various rings and other system harmonics due to modulation. Global system harmonics, which increase the value of computation time, must also be taken into account. If the magnetic gear has a high pole number, then computation time increases even more and no longer allows for system optimization. This paper proposes to compute magnetic field distribution using different harmonic selection methods in order to significantly reduce the computation time for the magnetic torque without any loss of accuracy.

Building energy simulation programs are powerful tools which are increasingly used at the design stage, for the assessment of compliance with energy efficiency regulations and for integration into energy management systems. A wider scope, a higher level of detail of building and thermal systems and the trend towards the use of dynamic simulations in real time are making these programs more computationally demanding. In this context, this paper presents a study of the computational time reduction in thermal simulations of buildings by applying equation tearing methods. These methods are employed to construct subsets of equations that can be independently solved with lower computational cost. The study was conducted at seven typical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning facilities. The computation time has been evaluated in five-minute intervals during a one-year period. The average saving ratio in processing time was 4.4;ratios ranged from 1.9 to 7.1. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

This paper proposes an improved model predictive torque control (MPTC) method for an open-end winding permanent magnet synchronous motor (OEW-PMSM) with reduced computation time. First, a basic predictive torque control algorithm is derived, which is based on the discrete system model and cost function. Then, a direct torque control (DTC) based switching table is developed to reduce the computation time. In addition, a weighting factor elimination method is adopted to avoid the tuning work, which is based on the equivalent reference vector of the reactive torque. Also, the optimal switching state selection strategy based on the principle of least switching losses is introduced. Simulation results are offered to verify the proposed method.

Phase based comb filter based harmonic compensation algorithm for single-phase inverter applications

This paper proposes a method to compensate for harmonics in single-phase inverter application using a phase-based comb filter. The conventional comb filter (CCF) is a harmonic reduction filter that has the effect of connecting multiple notch filters in series. The CCF has the effect of reducing harmonics for a fixed fundamental frequency. However, if the fundamental frequency changes, the coefficients of comb filter or sampling frequency must be adjusted. To address this issue, a phase-based comb filter (PCF) is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through experiments and simulations, with a comparative analysis conducted against conventional methods in term of transient characteristics and computation time.

An Efficient Simulation Method for Deep-Vertical- Well Drillstring Dynamics Based on Nonlinear Beam Element

In the research field of drillstring mechanics, there are two main problems: First, the upper boundary conditions of the lower drillstring model are not accurate enough, and second, the computational efficiency of the full- well drillstring model is low. To address these problems, a solution based on a kind of free flexible beam theory (geometrically accurate beam theory) is proposed in this paper. By converting the key parameters of the upper drillstrings, such as mass, friction, and stiffness, into equivalent ones, we establish a dynamically equivalent and efficient drillstrings model. Compared with the full- well drillstring simulation method, we find that the efficient drillstring model achieves a significant reduction in computation time, specifically from 80.53% to 93.24%. Furthermore, we compared the efficient drillstring model coupled with the dynamic loads of rock breaking with the results of indoor tests and full- well drillstring. The comparison results show that the errors between the computational results of the efficient drillstring model and the indoor test results range from 0.405% to 11.11%. In addition, we also found that the efficient drillstring model is consistent with the experimental results in terms of the parameter influence pattern, which further verifies the accuracy of the efficient drillstring model. The efficient drillstring model can simulate the actual rate of penetration (ROP) and torque on bit (TOB) with an error of less than 10% for different depths in the field, which indicates that the model is also highly accurate in practical applications. This paper's research has significant academic value and practical application relevance as it not only offers theoretical support for the optimization of the mechanical model of drillstrings but also offers helpful direction for experimental research and field application.
