An ACP-Based Parallel Approach for Color Image Encryption Using Redundant Blocks

Public concerns on image encryption grow significantly as the development and application of edge computing and the Internet of Things intensified recently. However, most existing image cryptosystems are not sophisticated enough to resist the two major attack strategies available currently, that is: 1) differential attacks and 2) chosen-plaintext attacks, which are famous for their destructive power, especially their capability of exploiting cryptosystems' features to recover the secret key. In this article, we propose an artificial image, computational experiment, and parallel execution (ACP)-based color image encryption approach using redundant blocks. First, a redundant blocks strategy with redundant spaces is proposed to prevent differential attacks and accelerate operating speed while guaranteeing the security of image cryptosystems. Second, real-world chaotic data (e.g., stock data) are obtained to generate artificial images and conduct computational experiments. Furthermore, artificial images are encrypted via real-world chaos, while the original images are encrypted via simulated chaos (such as Chen's hyperchaos). Finally, we design the process of parallel execution for image encryption and use DNA XOR to merge two groups of encrypted subimages to fuse the effect of the chaotic characteristics in both the real world and the simulation. The final encrypted image is realized through the recovery of redundant blocks. The ACP mechanism of color image encryption achieves the goal of improving the sophistication of chaos-based cryptosystems and resists both the differential and chosen-plaintext attacks. experimental results and security analysis show that our approach provides not only excellent encryption but also security sufficient to prevent known attacks.

A computational model of heat- and mass-transfer processes in a phosphorus recovery electrothermal reactor has been developed. An algorithm of the numerical method of finite elements has been proposed for the computer-aided simulation of heat- and mass-transfer processes in the reactor. A comparison of computational experiment results with experimental furnace inspection and physical modeling data demonstrate quite satisfactory agreement. The computer-aided calculation of related thermohydraulic fields has been performed for the entire reactor volume for the first time.

Parallel Transportation Management and Control System and Its Applications in Building Smart Cities

Advancements in complexity, complex systems, and the intelligence sciences, particularly smart city technologies, have shown great potential in aiding to ease traffic congestion. The overall approach and the main ideas in building smart transportation for smart cities, particularly ACP (artificial system, computational experiment, and parallel execution)-based parallel transportation management and control systems (PTMS), are presented. PTMS can be expanded to the new generation of intelligent transportation systems. The main components of the proposed architecture include social signal and social traffic, ITS clouds and services, agent-based traffic control, and transportation knowledge automation. Some technical details of these components are discussed. Finally, one case study is introduced, and the effectiveness is analyzed.

A Pareto optimal mechanism for demand-side platforms in real time bidding advertising markets

Real time bidding (RTB) advertising has been widely recognized as one of the most promising big-data-driven business models, and a fast-growing research field of computational advertising in recent years. In RTB markets, each ad impression is sold through a two-stage resale auction session, in which demand side platforms (DSPs) play an important role as intermediators. Specifically, DSPs buy ad impressions from the Ad Exchange (AdX) platform and resell them to their registered advertisers, who are interested in the target audience behind the ad impressions. The mechanism design of this two-stage resale auction is a hot research topic and also a critical component in maintaining the effectiveness and efficiency of the RTB ecosystems. In this paper, we strive to identify and design a new mechanism for this auction model in stochastic market environments, with the aim of maximizing the total expected revenue of the winning advertiser and the DSP, and improving the expected revenues for both the winning advertiser and the DSP from each ad impression. Our proposed new mechanism is Pareto optimal for the advertisers and DSPs. We study the equivalent forms of our proposed mechanism in cases when the stochastic market environments can be characterized by uniformly or normally distributed random variables, respectively. We also validate our auction mechanism using the computational experiment approach. The experimental results indicate that our mechanism can make both advertisers and DSPs better off. Our work is expected to provide useful managerial insights for DSPs in RTB market practice. (C) 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Mobile coupons delivery problem: Postponable online multi-constraint knapsack

We study the mobile coupons delivery problem (MCDP) in a push-based location based advertisement where an advertiser proactively sends mobile coupons to prospective customers on behalf of stores based on the customers' location and preferences. MCDP provides a new capability called postponable selection that enables an advertiser to better capitalize on the plethora of customer information provided by mobile phone users through network service providers. Postponable selection allows a customer to be reconsidered for selection for coupon delivery (i.e. postponed) as more information becomes available. We formulate MCDP as a new problem category referred to as the postponable online multi-constraint knapsack. We propose a single threshold-type algorithm with different design options and conduct extensive computational experiments to discuss the effectiveness of our algorithm as well as the benefit of postponable selection. Our experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the First-Come-First-Serve heuristic by 46% and postponable selection additionally improves performance by 4% on average.

DESIGN AND ANALYSIS FOR AN INVERSE PROBLEM ARISING FROM AN ADVECTION-DISPERSION PROCESS

We consider a process of one-dimensional fluid flow through a soil-packed tube in which a contaminant is initially distributed. The contaminant concentration, as a function of location in the tube and time after Bushing begins, is classically modeled as the solution of a linear second-order partial differential equation. Here, we consider the related issues of how contaminant concentration measured at some location-time combinations can be used to approximate concentration at other locations and times and how the sampled location-time combinations can be most effectively selected for this purpose (i.e., experimental design). The method is demonstrated for the case in which initial concentrations are approximated based on data collected only at the downstream end of the tube. Finally, the effect of misspecifying one of the model parameters is discussed, and alternative designs are developed for instances in which that parameter must be estimated from the data.

Simulation of Gas-Dynamic and Thermal Processes of Reduction of Molybdenum Fluoride and Synthesis of Its Carbide in Inductively Coupled Radiofrequency Plasma

A method has been proposed for simulating the gas-dynamic conditions for the synthesis of molybdenum and its carbides in a radiofrequency induction plasma reactor with a vortex gas supply. A homogeneous flow of a mixture in a turbulent mode has been considered, taking into account inductive heating and the influence of the electromagnetic field force on the plasma motion. The composition of the transformation products has been determined in accordance with the results of thermodynamic calculations. The effect of the main synthesis products on the temperature field and flow in the reactor has been taken into account. The possibility of using a thermal, quasi-equilibrium argon-hydrogen plasma for the production of molybdenum and its carbides Mo2C and Mo3C2 from volatile fluoride and, as a reference, tungsten and its carbide WC has been explored. These results have been compared with those obtained earlier for boron, silicon, and their carbides.

Investigation of thermal radiation of furnace gases generated from solid-fuel combustion in a steam boiler

The article presents a methodology of comprehensive study of thermal radiation emitted by furnace gases during solid fuel combustion. The characteristics of initial fuel and chemical composition of flyash are described. The absorption coefficients of the gaseous phase in relation to the wavelength, temperature, and concentration of the main gas components are measured. The gas composition was determined by calculation of the total combustion products, as well as experimentally (through a gas analyzer). The experimental results on the particle shapes and sizes, the distribution function of flyash particles, the fusibility of mineral part were used to calculate the radiation characteristics of the condensed phase. Calculations of emission characteristics of furnace gases (spectral and integral flux densities and emissivity factors) depending on the influence of each phase at different operating temperatures are presented. The method efficiency is estimated through comparing with calculated and experimental data on the emission characteristics for homogeneous and heterogeneous combustion products. Spectral ranges were chosen to determine the temperature for furnace gases, a plume, and the surface of flyash deposits on the furnace walls. experimental dependences of the emissivity factors for flyash deposits on temperature are presented. The findings can be used to calculate heat fluxes, for the purposes of furnace gases pyrometry, and to determine the temperature level in the compilation of operational maps for the boiler.

Balancing assembly lines effectively - A computational comparison

We report on results of a numerical experiment including the most effective branch and bound procedures for solving type 1 of the simple assembly line balancing problem (SALBP-1), namely Johnson's (1988) FABLE, Nourie and Venta's (1991) OptPack, Hoffmann's (1992) Eureka and Scholl and Klein's (1997) SALOME. It appears that SALOME clearly outperforms the other procedures with respect to hard instances of a new challenging data set. Beyond that, it is shown that the performance of SALOME can greatly be improved by adding some further features including dynamic renumbering and dominance rules. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. The effects of a trust mechanism on a dynamic supply chain network

Recognizing trust as the basis for firm cooperation, we investigate how a trust mechanism affects a supply chain network using a dynamic multi-agent and multi-stage model that incorporates three supplier selection rules: a preferred price rule, a preferred trust rule, and a preferred random rule. We use this model to explore the impact of the three rules on supply chain performance and bankruptcy propagation under the conditions of external disruption, bank rate, and new firms entering the market. Our results identify the preferred trust rule as the supplier selection method that can in most cases best improve the total revenue of the whole supply chain network. In terms of firm bankruptcy, on the other hand, it is the preferred random rule that has the least impact and the preferred price rule that has the most. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
