computational procedure for the Life Assessment of Solid Rocket Motors

A computational procedure for service-life estimation of a solid propellant rocket motor grain is developed. The propellant response is mathematically represented using a nonlinear damaging viscoelastic model. A finite element analysis is then performed to identify potential failure modes of the grain and to determine the critical values of stress strain associated with the potential failure modes. Both the current and aged propellant samples are calibrated and the motor is analyzed Our the models representing the different ages of the motor. Based on the available strain capability and bond-line strength data, the grain service life is estimated to end by bond failure during cold firing.

A computational algorithm is developed for the magnetic-dipole constant of the hyperfine structure of atomic spectra, which takes into account the distribution of the magnetic moment in the nuclear volume both in the relativistic and in the nonrelativistic formulation. A significant difference between the nonrelativistic approximation, and the pointlike nucleus approximation is the presence of a nonzero contact hyperfine interaction for electrons with nonzero orbital angular momentum in the former case. The procedure is tested in, the computation of the Bohr-Weisskopf correction for hydrogen-like spectra. (C) 2002 MAIK "Nauka/Interperiodica".

The integration of high-throughput genomic data represents an opportunity for deciphering the interplay between structural and functional organization of genomes and for discovering novel biomarkers. However, the development of integrative approaches to complement gene expression (GE) data with other types of gene information, such as copy number (CN) and chromosomal localization, still represents a computational challenge in the genomic arena. This work presents a computational procedure that directly integrates CN and GE profiles at genome-wide level. When applied to DNA/RNA paired data, this approach leads to the identification of Significant Overlaps of Differentially Expressed and Genomic Imbalanced Regions (SODEGIR). This goal is accomplished in three steps. The first step extends to CN a method for detecting regional imbalances in GE. The second part provides the integration of CN and GE data and identifies chromosomal regions with concordantly altered genomic and transcriptional status in a tumor sample. The last step elevates the single-sample analysis to an entire dataset of tumor specimens. When applied to study chromosomal aberrations in a collection of astrocytoma and renal carcinoma samples, the procedure proved to be effective in identifying discrete chromosomal regions of coordinated CN alterations and changes in transcriptional levels.

This paper presents a computational procedure to evaluate the shear strength contribution provided to a reinforced concrete (RC) beam by a system of near-surface mounted (NSM) fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) strips. This procedure is based on the evaluation of (1) the constitutive law of the average-available bond-length NSM FRP strip effectively crossing the shear crack, and (2) the maximum effective capacity it can attain during the loading process of the strengthened beam. Because of complex phenomena such as (1) interaction between forces transferred through bond to the surrounding concrete and the concrete fracture, and (2) interaction among adjacent strips, the NSM FRP strip constitutive law is largely different than the linear elastic one characterizing the FRP behavior in tension. Once the constitutive law of the average-available bond-length NSM strip is reliably known, its maximum effective capacity can be determined by imposing a coherent kinematic mechanism. The self-contained and ready-to-implement set of analytical equations and logical operations is presented along with the main underlying physical-mechanical principles and assumptions. The formulation proposed is appraised against some of the most recent experimental results, and its predictions are also compared with those obtained by a recently developed more sophisticated model. A Neural Network Constitutive Model and Automatic Stiffness Evaluation for Multiscale Finite Elements

A neural network model for a constitutive law in nonlinear structures is proposed in this paper. The artificial neural network (ANN) model is constructed based on a data set of responses from representative volume elements, which was calculated by finite elements and using an open scientific software machine learning platform. The tangential stiffness matrix, which can be used within a multiscale finite element analysis, is calculated via the method of automatic differentiation. Two types of constitutive neural networks are proposed. The first approach involves training a residual model with three respective surrogate models for the stress components, ensuring less computing cost. The second approach considers a separate ANN for each stress component, ensuring a high rate of convergence. The numerical results are compared with the given data set as well as with the results obtained after applying a polynomial regression. The loss function, without and including the Sobolev metrics, is considered. In addition, a physics-informed constitutive neural model, which enforces hyperelasticity principles, is also analyzed. The choice of the hyperparameters is discussed.

Nanoparticles Shape-Dependent Thermal Analysis of Non-Newtonian Hybrid Nanofluid over a Radiated Stretching Sheet

Chemical activated and magnetized nanomaterials have gained significant attention in several medical applications due to their exceptional thermal and physical attributes. Particularly gold and silver nanoparticles with pure blood, making it suitable for many medical interventions. By taking the full benefits of their advanced and tailored thermophysical attributes, the study's primary aim is to investigate shape-dependent thermal transport dynamics in hybrid bio-nanofluid by employing a computational-based theoretical model. The physical model incorporates the Cross-viscosity model with the aid diverse factors such as heat source, thermal radiation, Brownian motion, and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) consequences. The system of governing partial differential equations (PDEs) is shifted into a coupled system of ordinary differential equations (ODEs) by introducing similarity variables. Numerical treatment of resulting system is made through a well-known and robust bvp4c computational procedure. The effectiveness of the influential parameters on velocity, temperature, and concentration profile is examined comprehensively. It is noted that, postive variation in the numeric values of heat source and radiation parameters enhanced the heat transfer process. Furthermore, cylindrical-shaped nanoparticles enhance thermal transport in hybrid blood nanofluids because of reduced agglomeration and superior thermal conductivity compared to spherical nanoparticles. Cylindrical shape influences the temperature distribution rapidly with variant concentration of nanoparticles due to more conductive routes, and improved thermal conductivity facilitates effective heat dissemination within the hybrid blood nanofluids. The elongated shape promotes better thermal mixing and directional heat transfer, making them more effective for optimizing heat dissipation. A generalized Prufer transformation is used to derive comparison and oscillation theorems for the matrix Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem. It is shown in particular that if the eigenvectors are required to vanish at one (at least) of the end points, then the eigenvalues are uniquely characterized by the number of points (termed focal points) at which a certain determinant (of linearly independent solutions each satisfying the other boundary condition) vanishes. Simple but effective computational procedures based on this analysis are suggested, and their use is illustrated by a single-centre calculation on the 3s sigma state of the hydrogen molecular ion.
