HLA (High Level Architecture) components initiative intends to a high level of interoperability among simulations and allows maximum components reusability. However, to Time Warped algorithm, the RTI (Runtime Infrastructure) servers are difficult to use. This paper outlines two methods in HLA to help optimist federates perform rollback procedures when needed - common way and the computational reflection way to implement the mechanism and then to compare them. The common way - the optimistic federate programming task is heavy, while using last way it is increasing flexibility being adding meta-object, and decreasing programming complexity. The conclusion is, we can add the computational reflection techniques to the HLA time management, strengthen HLA in optimistic synchronization schemes in Parallel and Distributed Simulation.

When we build systems to operate in hazardous or remote environments, and especially when we expect them to cooperate with others in support of a goal, we rely on them to operate as correctly as possible in the (unpredicted, frequently unpredictable) situations they encounter. But the environment does whatever it does;we have essentially no control and only limited knowledge of what it does, and only the most meager notion of what it will do. In this paper, we describe an architecture for these component systems that we think will be better suited to the vagaries of environmental behavior than others. We advocate a collection of subsidiary systems to operate in parallel with the main system, to act as "outriggers" for unexpected environmental behaviors or system failures, or as "training wheels" during development.. We describe our initial notions of how they relate to the original system and how to implement them.

The paper presents a new reflective model called Channel Reification, which can be used in distributed computations to overcome difficulties experienced by other models in the literature when monitoring communication among objects. The channel is an extension of the message reification model A Channel is a communication manager incarning successive messages exchanges by two objects: its application range between those of message reification and those of meta-object model After a brief review of existing reflective models and how reflections can be used in distributed systems, channel reification is presented and compared to the widely used meta-object model. Applications of channel reification to protocol implementation, and to fault tolerant object systems are shown. Future extensions to this model are also summarized.

Biological organisms show a remarkable flexibility in how they organize their behavior and adapt it to changed circumstances. In this paper, we apply some of the more interesting concepts from biological theory to cyber-physical systems, especially those in such remote or hazardous environments that we cannot expect our control of them to be adequate for success or even survival. We propose a software architecture based on our Wrappings infrastructure, and show how it manages all of the resources necessary for autonomous operation, how it uses interacting planning and decision processes to organize its activity (determining that it cannot do something is one important aspect of the decision and planning processes), and how it uses various analyses of detailed behavioral instrumentation to improve that behavior or determine that improvement is not possible. We describe several difficult questions that arise when implementing our system architecture, and discuss how they might be addressed.

Our work on integration of data and knowledge sources is based in a common theoretical treatment of "Integration Science", which leads to systematic processes for combining formal logical and mathematical systems, computational and physical systems, and human systems and organizations. The theory is based on the processing of explicit meta-knowledge about the roles played by the different knowledge sources and the methods of analysis and semantic implications of the different data values, together with information about the context in which and the purpose for which they are being combined. The research treatment is primarily mathematical, and though this kind of integration mathematics is still under development, there are some applicable common threads that have emerged already. Instead of describing the current state of the mathematical investigations, since they are not yet crystallized enough for formalisms, we describe our applications of the approach in several different areas, including our focus area of Constructed Complex Systems, which are complex heterogeneous systems managed or mediated by computing systems. In this context, it is important to remember that ALL systems are embedded, ALL systems are autonomous, and that ALL systems are distributed networks.

Assistant agents are software systems that help users during their activities by carrying out some task as a reaction to the events of their environment. This paper proposes a software architecture that allows assistant agents to extend applications by autonomously, giving users suggestions and activating useful application junctionalities. The connection between applications and assistant agents is realised by means of computational reflection, which allows applications to evolve essentially without changes to their source code. The proposed approach is general in that it does not depend on a specific application nor platform. Its application is demonstrated by two examples of reflective assistant agents for a web browser, supporting data presentation and c-shopping respectively.

We describe a new approach to adaptive system construction, based on our belief that there are no one-way functions in biology (for example, no sensor is a one-way input device, and no effector is a one-way output device). We choose to mimic the fact that all biological systems have many active processing loops running at all times (at various different time and space scales), and all of them both produce and consume data. We wanted to see how far this notion can carry us towards highly adaptive computational systems, in combination with computational reflection and certain other biological principles of organization. We show that it carries us surprisingly far, by describing a system architecture that uses it as a fundamental organizing principle. We define what active loop programming is, show how it provides enormous flexibility in a software-intensive system, and show how it can be implemented with Wrappings.

CARS (computational Architectures for Reflective Systems) is a test bed for integration of heterogeneous autonomous cyber-physical systems (robotic vehicles). The test bed is organized around four "games" which test individual operation, competition, and both time-asynchronous and timesynchronous collaboration. We describe our design philosophy and then briefly discuss the design of the physical agents and the Wrappings software used to control them, as well as the method used to evaluate performance. Finally, we relate some results of our experiments so far and suggest both topics for future work on the CARS test bed and larger challenges for interwoven systems.

Today's technical systems are complex far beyond their designers' intentions because of the vast array of interactions, both intended and unintended, with other systems, with their environments, and (perhaps most complex of all) with us humans. The term Interwoven Systems has been developed to describe these entities. Proposals to integrate and manage such large, intensively-interconnected, and constantly evolving infrastructures involve adding both computational tasks and stored data. This dynamic ecosystem, exemplified by the Internet of Things (IoT), contains not only major resources such as email systems and the electrical power grid, but also internet-connected commercial appliances, routers, and other devices that are not considered to be computational systems by their owners. Both minimal hardware and excess capacity pose potential risks for the larger interwoven system in which they reside, most especially because their human users and operators frequently do not understand the full complexity of results which their interactions with these resources can have. This position paper discusses these systemic risks and proposes possible approaches for identifying and managing them.

This work concerns the addition of an extra piece of software, a rollback manager;to implement state saving and rollback management for optimistic federates in High Level Architecture (HLA). This mechanism uses computational reflection techniques to create a rollback manager meta-object that extends the low-level time management services provided by HLA. The main purpose of the rollback manager is to relieve the federate from the burden of handling problems related to the federate state, saving management and recovery. Some experimental results are shown to prove the feasibility of the proposed mechanism.
