FEATURES OF CREATING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE USING INFORMATICS AND CYBERNETICS

The article determines peculiarities and specifies application areas of the scientific methods of informatics and cybernetics based on V. M. Glushkov's definition of information. The concept of artificial intelligence is noted to belong to these science fields. The impossibility of using the traditional theoretical and practical foundations of discretization, quantization, and signal transmission in real-time systems is proved, and the need to develop new theoretical foundations based on the measure of changes for cybernetic systems is stressed. A tracking model of analog-incremental transformation of continuous signals with increments that are multiples to the power of 2 is proposed, as well as the methods of signal coordination with the information processing means. The expediency of using the dynamic theory of information based on the delta-entropy is stressed for distinguishing useful (dynamic) information in signals, images, videos, iterative processes, and, in general, in the data on changes in evolutionary processes. Approaches to the synthesis of new technical solutions based on the method of knowledge increments are proposed. The peculiarities of creating artificial intelligence by the methods of informatics and cybernetics and the need for their synergy with other science fields are determined.

The electron vibrational interaction (EVI) parameters such as Huang-Rhys factor, effective phonon energy and zero phonon line position were estimated using data from our recent reported work, on photoluminescence in rare earth doped complex hexafluorides phosphors LiMgBF6, Li2NaBF6 and Li3BF6 Validity of results were established by modeling the emission line which was found to be in good agreement with experimental photoluminescence spectra. Role of molecular rigidity on phase organization of a smectic liquid crystal - A theoretical model

The intermolecular interaction energies between a pair of Ethyl para-azoxy benzoate (4EAB) molecules have been computed with respect to translational and orientational motions. The complete neglect differential overlap (CNDO/2) method has been employed to compute the net atomic charge and atomic dipole moment components at each atomic centre. The modified Rayleigh-Schrodinger perturbation theory along with multicentred-multipole expansion method has been employed to evaluate the long-range intermolecular interactions, while a '6-exp' potential function has been assumed for short-range interactions. The total interaction energy values obtained through these computations have been used to calculate the probability of each configuration at room temperature (300 K), smectic-isotropic transition temperature (393 K), and above transition temperature (450 K) using the Maxwell-Boltzmann formula. All possible geometrical arrangements between the molecular pairs have been considered during the different modes of interactions. An attempt has been made to understand the molecular property that influences the macroscopic behaviour and controls the equilibrium between different phases of the chosen compound. Molecular arrangements inside a bulk of materials and smectic behaviour of the compound in terms of their relative order have been discussed. Further, a theoretical model has been developed to explicate the role of molecular rigidity on flexibility of various configurations and phase organization of a smectic liquid crystal. On viewing Thurstone's psychophysical scale from the point of view of the mathematical theory of one-parameter continuous groups, it is seen that a variety of different psychological or statistical assumptions can all be made to lead to a scale possessing similar properties, though requiring different computational techniques for their determination. The natural extension to multi-dimensional scaling is indicated.

Numerical simulation of external flow around cylinder using improved lattice Boltzmann method

In this study, incompressible and viscous external flow around a cylinder is simulated using the lattice Boltzmann method. The surface of cylinder is considered to be a rigid immersed body in the fluid flow. The fluid flow field is discretised by a uniform and fixed Cartesian mesh but there are difficulties in the modelling of curved boundaries. As a result, the cylinder surface is extrapolated by macroscopic properties at boundary nodes. On the other hand, to well treat with boundary condition of the cylinder surface and in the meantime, to save the computational effort, an innovation is applied in this research which solves this problem by introducing a new curved boundary condition to improve computational accuracy in lattice Boltzmann simulations. However, this method can be extended to other physical fields as well as fluid flow. The present results have been compared with the available numerical results which show good agreements.

Probabilistic calibration and short-term prediction of the prevalence herpes simplex type 2: A transmission dynamics modelling approach

An epidemiological model is proposed to study the transmission dynamics of the herpes virus type 2, a sexually transmitted infectious disease. This model considers two states, susceptible and infected, divides the population into sexes, assumes only heterosexual contacts and includes different transmission rates depending on whether the transmission is woman-man or man-woman. Reported and prevalence series data are retrieved from several sources. We consider the inherent data survey errors and the sensitivity of the diagnosis tests (data uncertainty). To calibrate the model to the available data and their uncertainty, a novel technique is proposed in two steps: (1) the application of the estimation of distribution algorithm (EDA) to find sets of model parameter values close to the data uncertainty and (2) the application of a selection algorithm to get a reduced number of model parameter values whose model outputs capture accurately the data uncertainty. Then, we check its robustness, and we provide a prediction of the evolution of the infected over the next 4 years. From the technical point of view, we conclude that the proposed technique to calibrate probabilistically the model is reliable and robust. Also, it is able to provide confidence intervals for the model parameter values and the predictions. From the medical point of view, the model returns that the transmission woman-man is higher than the man-woman, according to recent literature, and there is a mild increasing trend in the number of infected people over the next years.

A contribution of sparse matrices tools to matrix population model analysis

When one wants to study the dynamics of structured populations, matrix type models are widely used. The complexity of such models increases with the number of classes of individuals considered, and a mathematical analysis becomes difficult to perform when a further heterogeneous spatial structure is introduced. The use of efficient computational tools is also required for numerical simulations. In this note we deal with the contribution of sparse matrices tools which allow to numerically simulate and to numerically perform stability analysis of large sized structured population models including density dependence and spatial heterogeneities. Our main motivation through this work is to show that such numerical tools can be useful when mathematical methods become difficult to employ. (C) 2002 Published by Elsevier Science Inc.

In this manuscript, the reaction-diffusion vector-borne plant disease model is considered. Plants are a crucial part of the ecosystem because they provide food and oxygen for living organisms. If the disease is spread out in an area, then there is the possibility of starvation for animals and human beings. The need of the hour is to consider such models and their results which provides the opportunity for the decision makers to prepare policy for the betterment of human mankind. The underlying model is numerically investigated by an implicit finite difference scheme. The positivity of the governing model is also established. The Taylor series is employed to check the consistency. Linear stability of the implicit scheme is also derived. The positivity of the scheme is also derived by using the M-matrix and induction method. There are two equilibrium points namely disease free and endemic. 2D and 3D plots are drawn for the different choices of the parameters and both equilibrium points are successfully gained. It is evident from the simulations that results are consistent with the continuous model, results preserve the positive behavior for the whole domain. Numerical simulations confirm the efficacy of the method and validate the theoretical findings.

In the present day power system planning and operation, considerable interest is being shown in contingency analysis. Contingency screening and ranking is one of the important components of on-line system security assessment which is done with the help of various computer softwares which employ iterative methods like Newton Raphson and Fast Decouple Load Flow Methods for obtaining the magnitudes of various parameters. The objective of contingency screening and ranking is to quickly and accurately select a short list of critical contingencies from a large list of potential contingencies and rank them according to their severity. Suitable preventive control actions can be implemented considering contingencies that are likely to affect the power system performance. Network contingencies often contribute to overloading of network branches, unsatisfactory voltages and also leading to voltage collapse. To maintain security against voltage collapse, it is desirable to estimate the effect of contingencies on the voltage stability. This research paper presents a new approach using fuzzy logic to evaluate the degree of severity of the considered contingency and to eliminate masking effect in the technique. The proposed approach, in addition to real power loadings and bus voltage violations, voltage stability indices at the load buses are also used as the post-contingent quantities to evaluate the network contingency ranking of a Practical IEEE-5 BUS System.
