computational techniques to counter terrorism: a systematic survey

Terrorist Network Analysis (TNA) is the field of analyzing and defining the scope of terrorism and researching the countermeasures in order to handle exponentially increasing threats due to ever growing terrorist based activities. This field constitutes several sub-domains such as crawling the data about terrorist attacks/groups, classification, behavioral, and predictive analysis. In this paper we present a systematic review of TNA which includes study of different terrorist groups and attack characteristics, use of online social networks, machine learning techniques and data mining tools in order to counter terrorism. Our survey is divided into three sections of TNA: Data Collection, Analysis Approaches and Future Directions. Each section highlights the major research achievements in order to present active use of research methodology to counter terrorism. Furthermore, the metrics used for TNA analysis have been thoroughly studied and identified. The paper has been written with an intent of providing all the necessary background to the researchers who plan to carry out similar studies in this emerging field of TNA. Our contributions to TNA field are with respect to effective utilization of computational techniques of data mining, machine learning, online social networks, and highlighting the research gaps and challenges in various sub domains.

This study aimed to analyze computational techniques in ECG imaging (ECGI) reconstruction, focusing on dataset identification, problem-solving, and feature extraction. We employed a PRISMA approach to review studies from Scopus and Web of Science, applying Cochrane principles to assess risk of bias. The selection was limited to English peer-reviewed papers published from 2010 to 2023, excluding studies that lacked computational technique descriptions. From 99 reviewed papers, trends show a preference for traditional methods like the boundary element and Tikhonov methods, alongside a rising use of advanced technologies including hybrid techniques and deep learning. These advancements have enhanced cardiac diagnosis and treatment precision. Our findings underscore the need for robust data utilization and innovative computational integration in ECGI, highlighting promising areas for future research and advances. This shift toward tailored cardiac care suggests significant progress in diagnostic and treatment methods.

Advanced computational techniques for solving the modified KdV-KP equation and modeling nonlinear waves

This research employs recent and precise computational techniques to identify new and accurate solitary wave solutions of the modified Korteweg-de Vries-Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KdV-KP) equation. The KdV-KP equation is a nonlinear partial differential equation that characterizes the evolution of waves in diverse physical systems, including nonlinear optics, fluid dynamics, and plasma physics. The equation generalizes the KdV and KP equations, which are fundamental models in their respective fields. Physically, the modified KdV-KP equation describes wave propagation where the effects of nonlinearity and dispersion can produce intriguing and complicated wave phenomena such as wave turbulence and solitary waves. The equation has numerous real-world applications, including modeling shallow water waves such as tsunamis and river waves in fluid dynamics, describing the behavior of plasma waves in fusion reactors and astrophysical plasmas, and studying the propagation of light in nonlinear media such as optical fibers in nonlinear optics. One of the most significant applications of the equation is in the study of solitons, which are self-sustaining solitary waves that preserve their shape and velocity even after colliding with other solitons. Solitons are used in various applications such as optical communications, where they transmit information over long distances without distortion, and in fluid dynamics, where they model long-lasting waves in the ocean. The study's importance lies in its impact on the utilization of the modified KdV-KP equation in diverse fields of physics, including fluid dynamics and plasma physics. The effectiveness of the proposed techniques is demonstrated by comparing them with other computational methods, indicating their superiority.

In our investigation, we've utilized an advanced computational technique, the modified exp -phi(zeta)-expansion method, to derive precise solitary wave solutions within the (2+1)-dimensional Ablowitz-Kaup-Newell-Segur (AKNS) equation. These solutions, categorized by peak amplitudes, wave speeds, and widths, underscore the efficacy and reliability of our approach compared to conventional numerical methods. The significance of our study extends to practical applications of the (2+1)-dimensional AKNS equation in modeling various physical phenomena, from nonlinear optics to water waves and plasma physics. Our research, by precisely determining solitary wave solutions, not only deepens our comprehension of these phenomena but also establishes a robust basis for practical applications.

Deep learning and art design are being integrated, which is an innovative process that has the potential to reframe the way the human imagination is defined. This paper is an exploration of a broad field that showcases how AI enhances the experience of artist practice, especially content deep learning. This study comprises an exhaustive analysis of the cutting-edge models including generative adversarial networks (GANs), neural style transfer, and multimodal AI that assist in the creation, modification, and optimization of the artistic experience. This research points to implementations of those in the visual arts, graphic design, and interactive media while providing contemporary examples where deep learning has been an addition to traditional media and created new forms of art. Besides, the paper points to the challenges and ethical considerations concerning algorithmic art, including issues of authorship, biases, and intellectual property. The integration of computational methods in the realm of artistic expression is made in the paper and the paper provides insights into the change that deep learning can affect for artists, designers, and technologists.

Feasibility Study of Radio Xenon Measurement in Environment Using computational techniques

Xenon (Xe) is a noble gas and therefore chemically inert in the environment. The Earth's atmosphere contains approximately 0.087 ppm of stable xenon. Radio xenon isotopes like 133Xe and 135Xe are artificial isotopes generated from various nuclear facilities. Atmospheric measurement of radioactive xenon isotopes (radio xenon) plays a key role in remote monitoring of any nuclear accidents, abnormal release from nuclear facilities or nuclear explosions, since radio xenon has a high capability to migrate in a wide range from the site. The measurement of these gamma-emitting radioxenon gas can be done by sampling the gas in measurement geometry (like gas cell) and counting the cell in suitable gamma spectrometry-based detector system. For measurement of radioactive content in the sample, the efficiency calibration of system has to be carried out with same measurement geometry and same gamma ray energy that of sample. Many times, the radioactive standard sources in same measurement geometries and for same gamma energies are not feasible. In such cases, experimentally validated computational techniques are used for generating efficiency function. This paper describes the application of computational technique for measurement of radio xenon (133Xe and 135Xe) gas in the environment.

Modeling of the interaction between electromagnetic fields and human body has become an imperative tool for pioneering technological research in the field of bio-electromagnetism. This paper presents a description of the steps needed to assess and quantify the electromagnetic fields distribution and the related quantities in the human body for the investigation of medicine and health research studies. Moreover, two examples of the application of computational electromagnetic techniques to assess the EMF exposure and the electric field levels induced by a biomedical application based on EMF are reported. Novel insights and criticism of the application of computational dosimetry for the investigation of electromagnetic fields - body interactions will be also discussed.

Exploring computational techniques for simulating residual stresses for thin wall multi-joint hexagon configurations for a laser directed energy deposition process

Laser cladding is a directed energy deposition process and can lead to high residual stresses, which can compromise the quality of the specimen. As a result, it is crucial to accurately predict and investigate the residual stress distribution in cladded parts and understand the formation mechanisms. In this study, a thermo-mechanical metallurgical simulation model of the laser cladding process was developed for three different deposition sequences for a thin wall hexagon with inner junctions to investigate the formation of residual stress and distortion. The study was performed for single and multilayer scenarios. Two types of computational techniques, the detailed transient approach and the imposed thermal cycle approach, were performed and comparisons conducted. Consistent results were observed when comparing the resultant stress patterns for the single layer;subsequently, the imposed thermal cycle method was applied for the five-layer models. A preheat scenario is explored. This reduced the computational cost significantly, but the stress patterns were not similar. This indicates that building up worn regions at the top of a thin-walled component, such as a roll die, needs to be investigated further as unique issues have been highlighted. The differences between the implemented computational techniques are described as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each. Knowledge obtained from these case studies provides a foundation for efficient and rapid optimization of laser cladding processes, with the aim of minimizing residual stress in both simple and complex laser cladding structures.

A Comprehensive Review on computational techniques for Form Error Evaluation

In industries, precise measurement of different form errors is critical and challenging for stringent geometric and dimensional control in manufactured part. These form errors have significant influence on the functional performance of an industrial product that arises due the inherent invariability in measurement techniques and manufacturing devices. Several research have been conducted for evaluation of important form errors such as straightness, flatness, circularity, cylindricity and sphericity using different computational methods. The need of computational methods is justified as they minimize calculation time, human errors and provides improved tolerance values in assessment of form errors. In the same context, this paper presents a comprehensive review and discussion on different computational techniques for distinctive form error evaluation in engineering components. The present work mainly focused on aspects of mathematical formulations and the computational techniques i.e., traditional methods and advanced optimization algorithms, employed for precised evaluation of these errors. Based on the detailed review, several future research directions were described. Finally, last section presents concluding remarks on computational methods in modelling and precise evaluation of form error in manufactured components.
