The radio signals possessing both good correlation properties and high structural complexity provide steady operation of wireless communication systems in hostile radio - electronic environment. With regard to this fact, in the paper we propose a new algorithm for synthesis of complex phase manipulated signals, possessing both good correlation properties and high structural complexity. Its advantages are: effectiveness from computational point of view and diminishing the losses in the signal-to-noise ratio, caused by the processing with side-lobe suppression filters.

The significant increase in the prices of conventional energy sources and the public awareness of the need to reduce global warming have encouraged many countries to develop new systems based on renewable energies. Combining renewable energy sources with storage units to form a multi source system can provide a more economic, and reliable supply of electricity in all load demand conditions compared to a single-use of such systems. The energy balance between production and consumption should be carefully conducted while choosing the storage method to ensure the availability of power on demand and improve the dynamic behavior of the hybrid system. This paper presents a study of a HRES composed of Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels and a wind turbine as primary energy sources and batteries as storage units and proposes a computer algorithm based on type-1 fuzzy logic to control the energy between production and consumption and ensure the availability of power on demand.

The code flags are designed to address the image matching problem in the close-range photogrammetry. However, the traditional designs are complex, large computation, and low identifiable. What is more, they can not meet the requirement of the measurement of large areas, large objects and complex objects. A new code flag method based on coordinate quadrant in vision measurement is designed to meet the urgent need of the accuracy and the efficiency in this paper. First of all, the code flags are rectangle and designed with black background and white flags, in which there are three white circles that are placed in a certain position, and at least one but not more than 4 white-based arcs that are intercepted on the same ring. The largest circle of the three white circles is in the center of the pattern, and the other two are same size, one of them is near from the center circle, while the other one is a little farther away from the center circle, and the two lines between each smaller circle's center and the center of center circle is a vertical connection. Then a Cartesian coordinate system is set up under the location of solid circles in the pattern. Next encode from the first quadrant in clockwise order in the built Cartesian coordinate system. And finally the design of code flag based on coordinate quadrant is implemented according to the algorithm. Compared with the traditional flags, the code flag method based on coordinate quadrant in vision measurement in this paper is simple, easy and fast to the information extraction. And there are various advantages, such as small noise and other interference factors, low-intensity work, accurate identification of flags and precise position.

A promising alternative to the traditional objectives-and-constraints formulation for optimization that uses multiple dominance relations has recently been developed. Optimal designs according to one dominance relation are sought within the set of designs that are optimal according to some other relation. This problem formulation allows the designer to express more accurately what it is they want from an optimization, resulting in more efficient use of computational resources by focussing the search on designs that are of interest. A key feature of this new formulation is the nesting of multiple dominance relations, and this work assesses whether the ordering of dominance relations within this hierarchical structure is significant. A two-dimensional transonic airfoil design problem is used for this purpose, with design parameters classified as being primary objectives, desirable features, or design requirements. These three classifications result in six possible nesting arrangements, each of which is applied to scenarios comprising one and two primary objectives. Results show that the ordering of dominance relations is significant, with a well chosen arrangement actively assisting the scheme by preventing it from wasting a substantial proportion of the available computational budget searching regions of design space that are of little interest to the designer.

Sorting algorithms are important procedures to facilitate the order of data. In this paper, author describes new recursive version of fast sort algorithm for large data sets. Examination of the recursive fast sort algorithm performance was subject to performance tests, that showed validity. It is discussed, if non recursive version is faster than recursive.

To facilitate data analysis, we developed a computerized system for collecting and screening systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressure, and heart rate data. Each value is tested for acceptability (filtered), in real-time, by a computer algorithm. Level one, spike detection, is performed by independently comparing each datum to specified upper and lower limits. Level two, damping detection, is applied to data which passed level one and is categorized as mild, severe, or none. We monitored 69 tethered conscious baboons for approximately eight 12-hour overnight periods to obtain 23,433,000 one-second data points per variable. The computerized system eliminated approximately 65% of unacceptable data and highlighted problems, thus reducing the time required to inspect digital files or analog hard-copy recordings. Purpose: To study the frequency and severity of artifacts in optical Coherence tomography images and to develop a new algorithm for improved retinal thickness detection. Methods: We propose a new method to measure the retinal thickness in OCT scans. We compared our modified edge detection (MED) method to the Markov method and the conventional OCT algorithm (cOCT) in 226 OCT macular scans. Results: We defined errors as a difference in detected interface location of less than 100 mum offset for less than 10 A-scans, otherwise it was an artifact. The frequency of errors was reduced from 32% (cOCT) to less than 2% with the MED method, while the Markov method had a frequency of 5%. Artifacts were reduced from 9.3% (cOCT) to 0.9% (MED) while the Markov method had a frequency of 11.5%. Conclusion: The results show the MED method of detecting retinal thickness is superior to the other two methods, since the OCT method is prone to both errors and artifacts and the Markov method is robust only to healthy retina. Our MED method is robust for detection of normal retinas and effective even in eyes with pathological conditions. Use of improved retinal thickness detection algorithm should significantly improve clinical utility of the optical coherence tomograph.

The problem of parameter optimization for the purpose of synthesis and design of feedback control systems is considered. A flexible performance index, which permits direct consideration of performance specifications such as rise time, settling time, peak overshoot, and bandwidth, in addition to the usual analytic forms, is developed and adapted to a modified version of Rosenbrock's pattern-search algorithm. Modifications of Rosenbrock's method include: 1) scaling of parameters to ensure coordinate orthogonalization;and 2) employing variable step sizes at the beginning of each new stage, the steps being a function of previous failures and successes. The efficiency of each stage is thus improved and the sensitivity to initial estimates of step size is reduced. A stopping criterion for the search based on a given number of consecutive stages with no improvement of the performance index (within the precision of the computer) is shown to be effective. Calculation of sensitivity numbers and desired performance specifications around the optimal point are included to give a feel for system behavior near optimal condition. The IBM/360 continuous system modeling program (CSMP) is employed, permitting system simulation directly from a block diagram. A fast computer algorithm brings computation of the permanents of sparse matrices, specifically, molecular adjacency matrices. Examples and results are presented, along with a discussion of the relationship of the permanent to the Kekule structure count. A simple method is presented for determining the Kekule structure count of alternant hydrocarbons. For these hydrocarbons, the square of the Kekule structure count is equal to the permanent of the adjacency matrix. In addition, for alternant structures the adjacency matrix for N atoms can be written in such a way that only an N/2 X N/2 matrix need be evaluated. The Kekule structure count correlates with topological indices. The inclusion of the number of cycles improves the fit. When comparing with previous results, the variance decreases 74%. The calculated standard heat of formation correlates with the logarithm of the Kekule structure count. This heat increments 349 kJ/mol each time the Kekule structure count increases by one order of magnitude. (C) 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Reduction of chromium(VI) to chromium(III) by thiourea between pH 3.0 and 5.5 is a key aspect of the chromium(VI)/thiourea/polyacrylamide gel polymer system used in enhanced oil recovery processes. A method has been developed to determine chromium(VI) concentration during the reduction of chromium(VI) to chromium(III) in this pH range. The reduction reaction is run in the presence of an acetic acid/sodium acetate buffer which reacts with the chromium(III) produced and prevents the formation of a brown precipitate which forms in the absence of the buffer. With interference from the precipitate eliminated, chromium(VI) concentration is determined from the visible absorbance of the reaction mixture and the unique molar absorptivity spectra of the five chromium species present in the reaction mixture. An average error of approximately 1% between known and measured chromium(VI) concentrations was demonstrated over a chromium(VI) concentration range from 0.0005 to 0.0025 M.
