Analysis pipelines commonly use high-level technologies that are popular when created, but are unlikely to be readable, executable, or sustainable in the long term. A set of criteria is introduced to address this problem: completeness (no execution requirement beyond a minimal Unix-like operating system, no administrator privileges, no network connection, and storage primarily in plain text);modular design;minimal complexity;scalability;verifiable inputs and outputs;version control;linking analysis with narrative;and free and open-source software. As a proof of concept, we introduce "Maneage" (managing data lineage), enabling cheap archiving, provenance extraction, and peer verification that has been tested in several research publications. We show that longevity is a realistic requirement that does not sacrifice immediate or short-term reproducibility. The caveats (with proposed solutions) are then discussed and we conclude with the benefits for the various stakeholders. This article is itself a Maneage'd project (project commit 313db0b). Appendices-Two comprehensive appendices that review the longevity of existing solutions are available as supplementary "Web extras," which are available in the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library at http://***/10.1109/MCSE.2021.3072860. This paper proposes a new method based on the comprehensive transition criteria of speed, flux position, and voltage vector to solve the transition problem in hybrid direct torque control. In addition, the control angle is introduced that is adjusted by the smoothness and rapidity. Peak current, flux distortion, and torque ripple can be significantly reduced by the proposed method.

Organic Computing has emerged almost 10 years ago as a challenging vision for future information processing systems, based on the insight that already in the near future we will be surrounded by large collections of autonomous systems equipped with sensors and actuators to be aware of their environment, to communicate freely, and to organize themselves. The presence of networks of intelligent systems in our environment opens fascinating application areas but, at the same time, bears the problem of their controllability. Hence, we have to construct these systems - which we increasingly depend on - as robust, safe, flexible, and trustworthy as possible. In particular, a strong orientation of these systems towards human needs as opposed to a pure implementation of the technologically possible seems absolutely central. In order to achieve these goals, our technical systems will have to act more independently, flexibly, and autonomously, i.e. they will have to exhibit life-like properties. We call those systems "organic". Hence, an "Organic Computing System" is a technical system, which adapts dynamically to the current conditions of its environment. It will be self-organizing, self-configuring, self-healing, self-protecting, self-explaining, and *** steps towards adaptive and self-organizing computer systems are already being undertaken. Adaptivity, reconfigurability, emergence of new properties, and self-organization are topics in a variety of research projects. From 2005 until 2011 the German Science Foundation (DFG) has funded a priority research program on Organic Computing. It addresses fundamental challenges in the design of complex computing systems; its objective is a deeper understanding of emergent global behavior in self-organizing systems and the design of specific concepts and tools to support the construction of Organic Computing systems for technical applications. With the upcoming conclusion of the priority program in September 2011, we h

In this paper, we present three field-based evaluations of a tactile land navigation system. In Experiment 1, we transition from a laboratory setting to rugged terrain used to train US Army soldier land navigation. Navigation in this challenging terrain requires careful attention to one's surroundings. Participants navigated 3 waypoints along 600 meters through heavily wooded terrain, using 1) map and compass, 2) standard alpha-numeric handheld GPS device, and 3) the tactile GPS system, while also responding to radio requests for information. Experiment 2 used the same challenging terrain during night operations, where participants must also search for live and silhouette targets, using 1) handheld GPS device, 2) head-mounted map-based GPS, and 3) the tactile GPS system. In addition to navigating, participants searched for silhouette and live (human) targets. Experiment 3 had participants navigate with 1) a commercial GPS arrow display, 2) the tactile GPS system, and 3) both together. We conclude that tactile navigation displays can be used in strenuous outdoor environments and can outperform visual displays under conditions of high cognitive and visual workload.

During the past thirty years, manufacturing companies all over the world have spent huge amounts of money, time and effort on the implementation of manufacturing control systems. Yet, many surveys reveal that relatively few implementations are really effective. Many problems are associated with the lack of effective implementation of manufacturing control systems. This is particularly true in the case of computer based manufacturing control systems. The poor success rate is often attributed to either the inappropriate choice of the control system, or the lack of implementation expertise, as well as the difficulty associated with the particular attributes of the business in question. The latter frequently boils down to the need to satisfy the essential and desirable pre-requisites associated with the effective implementation of a particular control system. This paper describes a structured approach, associated knowledge bases, and a computer based system which has now reached beyond the pilot stage. The system can be used to select and repeatedly assess the current state of the Implementation of a given control system and what needs to be done, in terms of action plans, in order to achieve an effective implementation in the given environment. The complete system has been tested repeatedly and has proved successful in a number of practical manufacturing environments.

The paper presents a land development decision support system (LDDSS) which is part of a more general risk management decision support system under development (SOCRATES). The LDDSS employs a multicriteria decision making methodology to aid in the determination of the optimum patterns of land development in the vicinity of major hazard installations. The system is interactive and ii does not require assessment of value tradeoffs prior to finding the optimum patterns. More than one criteria, alternative preference structures, and any physical or other constraints which must be observed are taken into account. The results can be visualised by means of an appropriate Graphics User Interface facility. After presenting the methodological framework, the problem setup and the structure of the computer code, the application of the LDDSS is illustrated with an example.
