This study deals with scheduling groups of jobs, their arrival and delivery, and individual processing of each of them. All jobs in a group should be delivered at the same time after processing. The author presents a novel way of modeling and decision support-an integrated declarative approach. This approach includes the modeling and solving of the problem in the integrated environment, composed of MP (Mathematical programming) and CLP (constraint logic programming). In addition, the paper proposes the transformation and linearization of the model in CLP/MP environment and implementation framework. Opportunity to ask questions and receive quick answers, taking into account any constraints, conditions and dynamics, constitutes an invaluable support to the manager.

The paper proposes a model of management and configuration of competences of a team conducting advanced training in the field of IT, electronics, robotics and other advanced technologies. The model enables decision support in managing the training team and finding answers to numerous questions in this area. The most important questions include: Does the team have the appropriate composition and competences to conduct a training cycle in accordance with a given schedule? What competences are missing in the team to conduct the training cycle? What composition of the team of trainers ensures that the trainings can be conducted as scheduled in the absence of any trainer? etc. The model was formulated as a set of questions and a set of constraints. An approach that integrates mathematical programming and constraint logic programming was used to implement the model. The data has been saved in the form of facts, which enables their storage in both SQL and NoSQL databases and easy integration with decision support systems.

In the age of economics and knowledge-based economy, the competences of enterprises and organizations focus on the competences of their employees. It is especially visible in enterprises using advanced IT technologies and modern communication channels, such as social media. In recent years, social media has become an indispensable and very common channel of the business information flow, e.g., in the terms of advertising and marketing, payment processing, placing orders and tracking progress in their implementation. Thus, to support all these functionalities, usually in addition to specialized software and hardware, one needs highly qualified specialists, conventionally called the 'social media team'. This paper proposes a competency configuration model for the social media team. The presented model is the basis for supporting decisions in the selection, configuration, and optimization of the social media team in the context of the execution of a certain set of tasks. The implementation of the model using mathematical programming methods and a genetic algorithm with the original coding system for the modelled problem has also been proposed.

Constrained search problems (eg. scheduling, planning, resource allocation, placement, routing etc.) appear frequently at different levels of decisions. They are usually characterized by many types of constraints, which make them unstructured and difficult to solve (NP-complete). Traditional mathematical programming approaches are deficient because their representation of constraints is artificial (using 0-1 variables). Unlike traditional approaches, constraint logic programming (CLP) provides for a natural representation of heterogeneous constraints. In CLP we state the problem requirements by constraints;we do not need to specify how to meet these requirements. In this paper we propose a declarative framework for decision support system (DSS) for constrained search problems implemented by CLP and relational SQL database. We illustrate this concept by the implementation of a DSS for scheduling problems with external resources in different production organization environments.

We address the problem of verifying the satisfiability of Constrained Horn Clauses (CHCs) based on theories of inductively defined data structures, such as lists and trees. We propose a transformation technique whose objective is the removal of these data structures from CHCs, hence reducing their satisfiability to a satisfiability problem for CHCs on integers and booleans. We propose a transformation algorithm and identify a class of clauses where it always succeeds. We also consider an extension of that algorithm, which combines clause transformation with reasoning on integer constraints. Via an experimental evaluation we show that our technique greatly improves the effectiveness of applying the Z3 solver to CHCs. We also show that our verification technique based on CHC transformation followed by CHC solving, is competitive with respect to CHC solvers extended with induction.

The paper presents application and implementation aspects of a hybrid approach to modeling and optimization for supply chain problems. Two environments of mathematical programming (MP) and constraint programming (CP) were integrated into Hybrid Solution Framework (HSF). The strengths of MP and CP, in which constraints are treated in a different way and different methods are implemented, were combined to use the strengths of both. The proposed approach is particularly important for the decision models in logistic and supply chain management, where an objective function and many discrete decision variables added up in multiple constraints.

A flow production system with concurrently executed supply chains providing material handling/transportation services to a given set of workstations is analyzed. The considered streams of split and merge supply chains representing all the stages at which value is added to a manufacturing product (including the delivery of raw materials and intermediate components are scheduled under constraints imposed by the solution to an associated milk-run vehicle routing problem. A declarative model of the investigated milk-run delivery principle makes it possible to formulate a vehicle routing and scheduling problem, the solution to which determines the route, the time schedule, and the type and number of parts that different trucks must carry to fulfill orders from various customers/recipients. The goal is to find solutions that minimize both vehicle downtime and the takt time of the production flow. The approach proposed allows to view the above trade-off-like problem as a constraint satisfaction problem and to solve it in the Oz Mozart constraint programming environment.

Uncertainty in logic programming has been investigated during the last decades, dealing with various extensions of the classical LP paradigm and different applications. Existing proposals rely on different approaches, such as clause annotations based on uncertain truth values, qualification values as a generalization of uncertain truth values, and unification based on proximity relations. On the other hand, the CLP scheme has established itself as a powerful extension of LP that supports efficient computation over specialized domains while keeping a clean declarative semantics. In this paper we propose a new scheme SQCLP designed as an extension of CLP that supports qualification values and proximity relations. We show that several previous proposals can be viewed as particular cases of the new scheme, obtained by partial instantiation. We present a declarative semantics for SQCLP that is based on observables, providing fixpoint and proof-theoretical characterizations of least program models as well as an implementation-independent notion of goal solutions.

This paper presents a technique to map automatically a complete digital signal processing (DSP) application onto a parallel machine with distributed memory. Unlike other applications where coarse or medium grain scheduling techniques can be used DSP applications integrate several thousand of tasks and hence necessitate fine grain considerations. Moreover finding an effective mapping imperatively require to take into account both architectural resources constraints and real time constraints. The main contribution of this paper is to show how it as possible to handle and to solve data partitioning, and fine-grain scheduling under the above operational constraints using Concurrent constraints logic programming languages (CCLP). Our concurrent resolution technique undertaking linear and non linear constraints takes advantage of the special features of signal processing applications and provides a solution equivalent to a manual solution for the representative Panoramic Analysis (PA) application.

This paper presents a hybrid programming framework for solving multi-objective optimization problems in supply chain. The proposed approach consists of the integration and hybridization of two modeling and solving environments, i.e., constraint logic programming and mathematical programming, to obtain a programming framework that offers significant advantages over the classical approach derived from operational research. The strongest points of both components are combined in the hybrid framework, which by introducing transformation allows a significant reduction in size of a problem and the optimal solution is found a lot faster. This is particularly important in the multi-objective optimization where problems have to be solved over and over again to find a set of Pareto-optimal solutions. An over two thousand-fold reduction in size was obtained for the illustrative examples together with a few hundred-fold reduction in the speed of finding the solution in relation to the mathematical programming method. In addition, the proposed framework allows the introduction of logical constraints that are difficult or impossible to model in operational research environments.
