One challenge in the use of semi-active technology is in developing nonlinear control algorithms that are appropriate for implementation in full-scale structures. Based on the basic characteristics of magnetorheological (MR) damper, the structural control algorithms are introduced. The nonlinear control algorithms are systematically reviewed from the aspects including clipped optimal control, LQR control, and Lyapunov stability control. Finally, the existed problem in application and the future developing in research on the structural control algorithms are summarized respectively.

Due to increase in gas transportation scopes, the requirements for gas pressure regulators, such as accuracy, speed, transition time, etc., are also increasing. This article suggests ways to solve the problem of gas pressure regulation accuracy increase by using new discrete pressure regulators. In this connection, various control algorithms for discrete gas pressure regulators, transients occurring during flow throttling are considered. The analysis of the existing analog and digital controllers showed that there's a need to create a controller that combines the advantages of a discrete and analog controller both. The article suggests ways to improve gas pressure control systems in natural gas transportation facilities by developing a mathematical model of a discrete pressure regulator for the main gas pipeline, working according to the pressure value with a predetermined transition from one mode to another.

The flexibility of electric heating devices coupled with thermal storage can help to cope with the increasing share of volatile renewable energy sources in the electricity grid. Scheduling-based demand response approaches for optimally exploiting these flexibilities use demand and generation predictions to calculate an operative schedule of the heating devices. Due to deviations between predicted and real energy profiles, additional uncertainty handling methods are essential which adjust the actions imposed by the schedule to the current situation. In this paper, we introduce corrective control algorithms for buildings in smart grids with modulating heating devices that can compensate the uncertainties of predictions. The results show that our developed approaches avoid violations of the inhabitants' comfort limits and decrease the surplus energy (and thus increase the self-consumption rate) of photovoltaic systems compared to a conventional control strategy. Further, our analysis reveals that uncertainties affect the load shifting potentials of electric heating devices and lead to increased surplus energy.

This paper presents the development and preliminary results of a rapidly reconfigurable autopilot for small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. The autopilot presented differs from current commercial and open source autopilots mainly as it has been designed to: (i) be easily reprogrammable via Simulink (models are directly transferred to the autopilot through the Real-Time Workshop's code-generation capability);(ii) decouple the traditional tasks of attitude estimation/navigation and flight control by using two Digital Signal controllers (one for each task) interconnected via a Serial Peripheral Interface;and, (iii) being able to interact directly with Simulink as a Hardware-in-the-Loop simulator. This work details each of the main components of the autopilot and its ground control station software. Preliminary results for sensor calibration, Hardware-in-the-loop, ground and flight tests are presented.

The hyper-automation is introduced as a model of complex control algorithms. The model reflects basic aspects of control algorithms: presence of an external environment, cyclic and event-driven functioning, synchronism, hierarchical structure and logical parallelism. The paper introduces basic definitions and conceptual means of hyper-automaton model, which encourage program implementation of the algorithms. A new kind of functional polymorphism we name event-driven polymorphism is distinguished and discussed.
