Novel Optimum Magnitude Based Fractional Order controller design method

Due to adding the extra degree of freedom, the fractional order PID controllers can achieve better control performance than the integer order PID controllers. The present paper proposes a novel fractional order controller design method, inspired by the Kessler's optimum magnitude method. The explicit tuning rules are accessible even to less experienced users in fractional calculus, taking only the advantages of the controller and not the disadvantage of complex mathematical background. The advantages of the method are demonstrated by a case study. © 2018

Total least squares method is applied to design the optimal control strategy for descriptor systems through the noise polluted input and output data. The traditional controller design schemes are ideally, i.e., the input-output data is treated with no noise disturbance, or only the error of the output data is considered. However, if the input and output data are both disturbance by the noise, the underlying problem of controller design may be ill-conditioned, and in that case the tradition approaches will lose its significance. In this paper, the methodology of Tikhonov regularization of total least squares is introduced to solve the above problems. By using the presented algorithm, one can get the desired controller only through the input and output data of the system. Furthermore, because the posedness is considered when the algorithm is designed, algorithm is robustness. Illustrative example indicates that the presented algorithm can obtain an accurate controller for a system and has more effectiveness.

Robust H∞$H_\infty$ dynamic output feedback control of the DC-AC converter with a neutral leg

This paper investigates the problem of robust H infinity$H_\infty$ dynamic output feedback control of 3-phase 4-wire converter with neutral bridge arm in the application of smart grid and distributed generation. Based on Lyapunov functions, a novel sufficient Linear Matrix Inequality condition analysis was performed on the dynamic output feedback stabilisation controllers. Meanwhile, some auxiliary slack variables with special structure and well-established performance conditions are employed to reduce design conservatism. This topology along with the H infinity$H_\infty$ controller can solve the DC link balancing problem and maintain the deviation between the neutral point and the midpoint of DC supply very small. The achievable performance is analysed quantitatively and the controller design method was conducted and verified both in MATLAB simulation and the real-time simulation platform built by StarSim and MT, respectively.

The stochastic stabilisation of networked control systems is investigated with a special focus on the lossy multi-packet transmission in the wireless communication context. The resulting partially available system states due to multi-packet transmission are firstly reconstructed at the controller, and the sufficient conditions for stochastic stability are then given for the closed-loop system, which finally leads to a controller design method with explicit consideration of multi-packet transmission. The proposed theoretical results are verified by both numerical and TrueTime-based examples.

A controller design method is presented for one-sided Lipschitz Markovian jump systems with partially unknown transition probabilities. By using the proposed controllers, it can be guaranteed that the state trajectories starting from a given region remain in it (without disturbances) or a bigger one (under disturbances), where the local one-sided Lipschitz and quadratically inner-bounded conditions can be satisfied. In addition, an observer-based controller is designed to stabilise the system without the requirement that the system states are measurable. Finally, two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Positive nonlinear control of tumor growth using angiogenic inhibition

The input of physiological control systems is positive in almost every case (i.e. it is the concentration of a drug), thus the application of controllers which guarantee positive input is crucial. However, most of the controller design methods can not incorporate the constraint that the input has to be positive. We propose a method based on the dynamic extension of the system that guarantees that the output of the controller is always positive, and design nonlinear controller and observer for the extended system. The extended system is linearized using exact linearization, and path tracking control law is applied to ensure the desired tumor volume regression. The output of the resulting controller is always positive, and achieves the desired tumor regression with low control inputs that are desirable in physiological point of view. The results show that the proposed dynamical extension can be sufficiently used along with exact linearization to control nonlinear dynamic systems with positive inputs. © 2017

This study deals with the problem of passivity and passification for switching Markovian jump systems with time-varying delay and generally uncertain transition rates. The considered systems could be viewed as Markovian jump linear systems governed by a piecewise-constant transition rate matrix, which is subject to a high level average dwell time switching. The time delay is considered as time-varying and meets the requirements of the upper and lower bounds. The generally uncertain transition rates cover uncertain transition rates and partly known transition rates as two special cases. First, sufficient conditions, which guarantee the exponential mean-square stability and stochastic passivity of the underlying systems, are presented by resorting to average dwell time approach. Second, the design of the stabilising controller is given further. Moreover, an improved controller design method, which could provide efficiency and practicability, is further developed. All the proposed conditions are given in the form of linear matrix inequalities. Finally, practical examples illustrate the validity of the obtained results.

Dynamic Model of a Multi-Evaporator Organic Rankine Cycle for Exhaust Heat Recovery in Automotive Applications

This paper presents a dynamic model of an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) for exhaust heat recovery (EHR) in automotive applications. EHR converts the thermal energy of the exhaust gas into mechanical power. Dynamic components like evaporator, condenser, etc. are modeled based on physical conservation laws given as partial differential equations (PDE). The system involves two parallel evaporators coupled via an open t-piece which is handled numerically efficiently by introduction of algebraic constraints. An integral method improves the evaluation of the fluid properties which partly contain discontinuities. They can have negative effects on accuracy and simulation performance if evaluated inappropriately. The model is implemented by signal-based programming suitable for simulation in Matlab/Simulink. This enables convenient software-in-the-loop (SIL) engineering since many control unit producers provide rapid prototype programming via Matlab/Simulink. A simplified model is proposed for the increase of robustness and simulation performance or for application of controller design methods. Simulation shows both the entire ORC system compared measurements from a Daimler prototype truck, and comparison between complex and simplified model. © 2016

Stability Analysis and Synthesis for Nonlinear Networked Control Systems

The paper is concerned with stabilization of nonlinear networked systems which are described by the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy systems. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii stability theorem, stability analysis and control design problems are considered. Novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii function and corresponding generalized controller allow to obtain less conservative conditions for the networked control system to be asymptotically stable. Furthermore, free matrix parameter method is introduced. This method is known to reduce the conservatism in control design conditions. With such novel controller and novel Lyapunov-Krasovskii function, a new controller design method is proposed. Resulting conditions for a controller to stabilize the networked control system are less conservative and are applicable for a wider class of nonlinear systems. © 2016
