Voice-to-Phoneme conversion algorithms for Voice-Tag Applications in Embedded Platforms

We describe two voice-to-phoneme conversion algorithms for speaker-independent voice-tag creation specifically targeted at applications on embedded platforms. These algorithms (batch mode and sequential) are compared in speech recognition experiments where they are first applied in a same-language context in which both acoustic model training and voice-tag creation and application are performed on the same language. Then, their performance is tested in a cross-language setting where the acoustic models are trained on a particular source language while the voice-tags are created and applied on a different target language. In the same-language environment, both algorithms either perform comparably to or significantly better than the baseline where utterances are manually transcribed by a phonetician. In the cross-language context, the voice-tag performances vary depending on the source-target language pair, with the variation reflecting predicted phonological similarity between the source and target languages. Comparative Study of algorithms for the conversion From Surface Mesh Models to Volume Mesh Models

The study delves into the performance of different algorithms in the process of converting surface mesh models (SMMs) into volume mesh models (VMMs) required for finite element analysis. The experiment compared the Initial mesh, Delaunay, Frontal, and HXT algorithms, analyzing their central processing unit (CPU) runtime, node count, element count, and model size when processing simple models under default control parameters. The results showed that the Frontal algorithm performed the best in the conversion of simple models with a CPU runtime of 0.001 s, while the Delaunay algorithm took relatively longer. For complex models, the Initial mesh, Delaunay, and Frontal algorithms were all successful in completing the conversion, but the HXT algorithm failed, highlighting the importance of algorithm selection. The Delaunay algorithm performed best in terms of efficiency and model size, while the Frontal algorithm had an advantage in model refinement. Although the Initial mesh algorithm had a more balanced number of nodes and elements, its longer CPU runtime indicates potential for efficiency improvement. In addition, the randomness of the HXT algorithm in mesh generation led to variations in results, which requires further optimization to improve the consistency and robustness of the algorithm. Future research will focus on algorithm optimization, particularly enhancing the HXT algorithm's ability to handle complex models, developing automated parameter selection mechanisms, exploring the application of algorithms in other engineering fields, and achieving better integration of algorithms with computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided engineering (CAE) workflows.

The difference in mesh model expression between BIM and CAE exists, resulting in the issue that BIM mesh models cannot be directly used on CAE platforms. So, a computer program named SMM2FLAC3D was developed to convert the format of surface mesh model from BIM to volume mesh model accepted by FLAC3D, and generated a sample source code or input file. The developed program was applied and tested using five conversion algorithms to achieve mesh model converting process. The computation speed, storage size, nodes count and element count of the generated FLAC3D mesh model were also measured. For complex model, the Initial mesh, Delaunay, and Frontal algorithms were all successful in completing the conversion, but the HXT algorithm failed, highlighting the importance of algorithm selection. The Delaunay algorithm performed best in efficiency and model size, while the Frontal algorithm had an advantage in mesh model refinement. The study also pointed out that based on evaluation criteria, the TetGen algorithm demonstrates characteristics of rapid processing, conservation of disk space, and a high degree of refinement, making it the recommended first choice for mesh model conversion. In addition, the randomness of the HXT algorithm in mesh generation led to variations in results, which requires further optimization to improve the consistency and robustness of the algorithm. From the results of our test, it was concluded that the developed program successfully converts surface mesh model into the FLAC3D mesh model.

Organic-light-emitting-diode (OLED) displays employing white-light-emitting OLEDs in combination with RGBW color filters can demand high peak currents to present images with bright, highly saturated colors. Image-processing methods that take advantage of a very highly efficient white subpixel in addition to filtered RGB subpixels to reduce the peak current and power of these displays are described. The image-quality impact of these algorithms are explored to develop a final image-processing algorithm.

Multiresolution for algebraic curves and surfaces using wavelets

This paper describes a multiresolution method for implicit curves and surfaces. The method is based on wavelets, and is able to simplify the topology. The implicit curves and surfaces are defined as the zero-valued piece-wise algebraic isosurface of a tenser-product uniform cubic B-spline. A wavelet multiresolution method that deals with uniform cubic B-splines on bounded domains is proposed. In order to handle arbitrary domains the proposed algorithm dynamically adds appropriate control points and deletes them in the synthesis phase.

We present in this paper a canonical form for the elements in the ring of continuous piecewise polynomial functions. This new representation is based on the use of a particular class of functions {C-i(P) : P is an element of Q[x], i = 0,..., deg(P)} defined by C-i(P)(x) ={(0)(p(x)) (if x >=alpha) (if x <=alpha) where a is the ith real root of the polynomial P. These functions will allow us to represent and manipulate easily every continuous piecewise polynomial function through the use of the corresponding canonical form. It will be also shown how to produce a "rational" representation of each function C-i(P) allowing its evaluation by performing only operations in Q and avoiding the use of any real algebraic number. Manipulating images by using run-length Morton codes

In this paper, we first present a variation of the 2-dimensional run-encoding, called the run-length Morton code encoding scheme, for compressing binary images, then we present efficient algorithms for manipulating set operations and performing conversions between the proposed encoding scheme and some well-known spatial data structures. The time complexities of set operations are linearly proportional to the size (number) of the run-length Morton codes and the time complexities of conversions are linearly proportional to the number of the nodes in the corresponding quadtree/bintree with respect to the run-length Morton codes.

Discrete Fourier transformation processor based on complex radix (-1 +j) number system

Complex radix (-1 +j) allows the arithmetic operations of complex numbers to be done without treating the divide and conquer rules, which offers the significant speed improvement of complex numbers computation circuitry. Design and hardware implementation of complex radix (-1 +j) converter has been introduced in this paper. Extensive simulation results have been incorporated and an application of this converter towards the implementation of discrete Fourier transformation (DFT) processor has been presented. The functionality of the DFT processor have been verified in Xilinx ISE design suite version 14.7 and performance parameters like propagation delay and dynamic switching power consumption have been calculated by Virtuoso platform in Cadence. The proposed DFT processor has been implemented through conversion, multiplication and addition. The performance parameter matrix in terms of delay and power consumption offered a significant improvement over other traditional implementation of DFT processor. (C) 2016 Karabuk University. The 3N encoding process can simply add the input data N to its 1-bit left-shifted value 2N using the combinational digital circuits, such as ripple carry adder (RCA) or carry look-ahead adder (CLA). This paper presents an efficient algorithm and its hardware implementation. Results show that the proposed RCA-like 16-bit encoder achieves 25% less in hardware cost and 50% faster in speed performance than the use of the conventional RCA. The proposed CLA-like 64-bit encoder achieves 1.73 ns which is approximately 20% faster than the use of the conventional CLA.
