cooperative coding technique combines the channel coding technique to cooperative communications, and guarantees the high performance. Polar codes, proposed by Arikan in 2007, have been proven to be capacity-achieving codes with low encoding and decoding complexity. In the paper, we propose a cooperative coding scheme using polar codes. We present the cooperative coding schemes with amplify-forward (AF) mode and decode-forward (DF) mode, respectively. By numerical simulations, we compare the performance of the proposed schemes using polar codes with those schemes using low density parity check (LDPC) codes under the same conditions. The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed schemes with AF and DF modes has been improved significantly compared with those using LDPC codes. We also study the distance factor on the performance of the cooperative communication system. The results show the smaller the distance between R and S, the better the performance of the system is.

Low-frequency narrowband (LF NB) power line communications (PLC) is an old data-communication concept that has received renewed interest in industry, standardization, and academia for its potential to become an important element of the communication infrastructure supporting Smart Grid applications. In this paper, dedicated to Prof. Johannes Huber on the occasion of his 60th birthday, we review and discuss channel modeling and cooperative coding methods for LF NB PLC systems operating in low-voltage access networks. Optimum cooperation of the cooperative coding scheme for frequency division half-duplex relay channels

This paper analyzes the effects of the level of cooperation (LOC) on the performance of a practical cooperative coding scheme for frequency division half-duplex relay links in general wireless ad-hoc networks. The end-to-end bit error probability (BEP) and the corresponding optimum LOC minimizing the end-to-end BEP are investigated for specific realizations using a family of rate compatible punctured convolutional (RCPC) codes. This paper shows that the BEP of the cooperative coding scheme depends on the LOC and there exists an optimum LOC for every specific realization. Further, it is shown that more than a certain level of cooperation is required to achieve possible cooperative gains in practical signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regions, and increasing LOC does not effect much on the BEP performance for sufficiently large LOCs.

5G sets stringent requirement on delay, which means large packets have to be segmented into shorter ones. However, the gain of turbo coding can be severely degraded due to short code size. In this paper, a novel coding and encoding scheme is proposed to obtain high coding gain under short size. The idea is to encode multiple short code blocks cooperatively to obtain a long code size. In the process of encoding, an XOR operation is conducted on certain parts of previously encoded blocks to introduce correlation. The mechanism of successive interference cancelation (SIC) receiver is applied in the decoding procedure and each code block utilizes the extrinsic information from the correlated parts from other code blocks. The scheme incurs no extra delays at reduced complexity. Simulation results show the scheme can yield equivalent or better performance than using traditional turbo code on long code block.

The cooperative transmission is an efficient way in the wireless network which benefits from the spacial diversity. In this paper, we introduce and analyze a novel three-node relay protocol with high transmit efficiency, termed as the Adaptive cooperative coding (ACC). This technique is implemented by transmitting the rate-compatible punctured convolutional code (RCPC code) sequence and its complementary punctured convolutional (CPC) sequence during the two-hop transmission. Compared with the conventional cooperative transmission, the ACC scheme remarkably improves the achievable data rate and is adjustable to variable channel conditions. Furthermore, we deduce the theoretical upper bound of the ACC protocol, from which the lowest packet error probability can be achieved by selecting a proper coding rate for the first hop.

In this paper, we propose a 2 x 2 cooperative multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme based on Alamouti space-time coding. In this scheme, the the relay and the destination antennas receive the transmitted symbols from the source during the first stage. Then, both the relay and the destination generate their own decision variables using an Alamouti decoding procedure by the end of the first stage. In the second stage, the relay sends its own decision variables to the destination to enhance the destination decision variables and therefore improves the performance of the system. Our results show the superiority of the proposed cooperative Alamouti scheme by improving the system performance in terms of average BER, frame error rate (FER), and spectral efficiency.

In order to succeed in commercial business fields, sensor networks must implement a hybrid ARQ scheme capable of supporting better transmission efficiency and reliability than currently exists. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid ARQ scheme with cooperative coding for wireless sensor networks. In the proposed hybrid ARQ scheme, the ARQ scheme is combined with Reed Solomon(RS) coding to work in a cooperative manner. When the data is transmitted, the cooperation node keeps it temporarily through the overhearing. If the data transmission is in error, the retransmission is required to provide reliability. In this situation, if the cooperation node has a better link quality, then it will retransmit the data with the increased RS coding instead of the original sender. With the proposed hybrid ARQ scheme, the experimental results show that the transmission efficiency is improved by nearly 10 percent, while the reliability is provided as well.1
