Distributed coordinated precoding for MIMO Cellular Network Virtualization

This paper presents a new virtualization method for the downlink of a multi-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) network, to achieve service isolation among multiple Service Providers (SPs) that share the base station resources of an Infrastructure Provider (InP). Each SP designs a virtual precoder for its users in each cell, as its service demand to the InP, without the need to be aware of the existence of the other SPs or to know the channel state information (CSI) outside the cell. The InP performs network virtualization to meet the SPs' service demands while managing both the inter-SP and inter-cell interference. We consider coordinated multi-cell precoding at the InP and formulate an optimization problem to minimize a weighted sum of signal leakage and precoding deviation, with per-cell transmit power constraints. We propose a fully distributed semi-closed-form solution at each cell, without any CSI exchange across cells. We further propose a low-complexity scheme to allocate the virtual transmit power, for the InP to regulate between interference elimination and virtual demand maximization. Simulation results demonstrate that our precoding solution for network virtualization substantially outperforms the traditional spectrum isolation alternative. It can approach the performance of fully cooperative precoding when the number of antennas is large.

We consider online wireless network virtualization in a multi-cell multiple-input multiple-output system with delayed feedback of channel state information (CSI). Multiple service providers (SPs) simultaneously share the base station resources of an infrastructure provider (InP). We aim at minimizing the accumulated precoding deviation of the InP's actual precoder from the SPs' virtualization demands via managing both inter-SP and inter-cell interference, subject to both long-term and short-term per-cell transmit power constraints. We develop an online coordinated precoding solution and show that it provides provable performance bounds. Our precoding solution is fully distributed at each cell, based only on delayed local CSI. Furthermore, it has a closed-form expression with low computational complexity. Simulation results demonstrate the substantial performance gain of our precoding solution over the current best alternative.

This paper studies the multi-user performance of multi-cell visible light communication (VLC) systems with coordinated precoding among cells. Practically, separated LED arrays are employed to properly illuminate a large room/office. This configuration enables a multi-cell VLC system, which is analogous to that in mobile cellular networks. In such multi-cell systems supporting multiple users, the received signal at a user can severely be degraded not only by the interference caused by the signals that are intended to other users within the cell (intra-cell interference) but also by interference from signals of the other cells (inter-cell interference). In order to remove these interferences, we propose a coordinated precoding technique which allows coordination between VLC cells. We then investigate the optimal precoding matrix design to maximize the achievable sum capacity of users. The maximization problem is formulated as a convex optimization problem which can be solved efficiently by using standard software packages. Numerical results show that the proposed coordinated precoding outperforms the non-coordinated one.

We consider online coordinated precoding design for downlink wireless network virtualization (WNV) in a multi-cell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) network with imperfect channel state information (CSI). In our WNV framework, an infrastructure provider (InP) owns each base station that is shared by several service providers (SPs) oblivious of each other. The SPs design their precoders as virtualization demands for user services, while the InP designs the actual precoding solution to meet the service demands from the SPs. Our aim is to minimize the long-term time-averaged expected precoding deviation over MIMO fading channels, subject to both per-cell long-term and short-term transmit power limits. We propose an online coordinated precoding algorithm for virtualization, which provides a fully distributed semi-closed-form precoding solution at each cell, based only on the current imperfect CSI without any CSI exchange across cells. Taking into account the two-fold impact of imperfect CSI on both the InP and the SPs, we show that our proposed algorithm is within an $O(\delta)$ gap from the optimum over any time horizon, where $\delta $ is a CSI inaccuracy indicator. Simulation results validate the performance of our proposed algorithm under two commonly used precoding techniques in a typical urban micro-cell network environment.

This paper considers coordinated precoding design in multi-cell scenarios where transmitters and receivers are both equipped with multiple antennas. To suppress the co-channel interference, much channel state information (CSI) should be sent back to the transmitters. Most previous work in the area has assumed that transmitters have common knowledge of both data symbols of all users and full or local CSI. Herein, we propose coordinated precoding scheme with interference CSI only. Note that interference CSI denotes the channel state information from the transmitter to the interference user particularly. "Zero-Forcing" (ZF) method can be easily adopted to minimize the co-channel interference. However, coordinated ZF precoding imposes a condition that each BS should have more antennas than receive antennas combined by all users. Therefore, a coordinated precoding scheme is presented by minimizing leakage-plus-noise (MLN) which is similar to maximizing signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) criterion. Simulation results show that the proposed precoding scheme endures an acceptable performance loss compared to traditional schemes while much feedback overload is reduced.

Relay communication network has been widely studied in recent years due to their ability to provide more reliable communication through enhanced diversity. In this work, we consider a downlink multiuser multi-input-multi-output (MU-MIMO) relay network under amplify and forward (AF) protocol. coordinated relay system can provide the additional diversity gain due to adding the relay station (RS) compared to the direct transmit system. Assuming that the channel state information (CSI) at the base station (BS) is available, we propose a precoding method considering equivalent channel between the BS, RS and user equipment (UE), named as maximum-signal-leakage-and-noise-ratio (SLNRmax) that can effectively suppress the co-channel interference (CCI) and noise at the UE. And we also analyze the influence of increasing the number of the UEs on the sum-rate in the MU-MIMO relay network. Theoretical analysis and Monte Carlo simulation results show the un-coded BER and the sum-rate performance with coordinated relay outperforms that without relay.

We consider multiple base station (BS) cooperative transmission in downlink cellular networks to improve the spectral efficiency and the system capacity. Grouping BSs into clusters is a practical solution to realize BSs cooperation and reduce system complexity. However, it still suffers from inter-cluster interference, especially for the cluster-edge users. In this paper, clustering and scheduling are jointly considered to deal with the problem. The clusters are formed dynamically from users' point of view to minimize the inter-cluster interference, and are allowed to be overlapped. Accordingly, coordinated precoding scheme is designed to manage the intra-cluster interference. A greedy scheduling algorithm is proposed jointly with dynamic clustering. Simulations show that the proposed joint algorithm provides impressive average throughput gain over the non-joint ones, and the user fairness is improved significantly.
