Suppression correction and characteristic study in liquid chromatography/Fourier transform mass spectrometry measurements

Analysis of peptide profiles from liquid chromatography/Fourier transform mass spectrometry (LC/FTMS) reveals a nonlinear distortion in intensity. Investigation of the measured C-13/C-12 ratios comparing with theoretical ones shows that the nonlinearity can be attributed to signal suppression of low abundance peptide peaks. We find that the suppression is homogenous for different isotopes of identical peptides but non-homogenous for different peptides. We develop an iterative correction algorithm that corrects the intensity distortions for peptides with relatively high abundance. This algorithm can be applied in a wide range of applications using LC/FTMS. We also analyze the distortion characteristics of the instrument for lower abundance peptides, which should be considered when interpreting quantification results of LC/FTMS. Improvements in road geometry measurement using inertial measurement systems in datalog vehicles

The development of ever more accurate and detailed digital maps is one of the requirements being imposed by new driver assistance systems being fitted in vehicles. Data log vehicles are one of the options to develop these maps. Of the instruments available for measuring road geometry, we must distinguish inertial systems from those of absolute satellite positioning. Although the usual thing is to combine both systems, their limitations must be examined in order to define the scope of each system. Inertial systems give a cumulative error as the distance travelled increases, and this must be evaluated. This paper proposes a way of estimating the error committed in horizontal alignment through the law of uncertainty propagation. Furthermore, these systems enable road grade and superelevation to be measured, but these measurements are conditioned by vehicle dynamics. The proposal put forward is based on a correction algorithm through simulation with a vehicle mathematical model. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

An algorithm to correct for camera vibrations in optical motion tracking systems

Recording and reconstruction of 3D motion capturing data relies on fixed, static camera positions with given inter-camera distances in a laboratory frame. To overcome this limitation, we present a correction algorithm that allows us to address camera movements in moving camera setups. Camera vibrations are identified by comparison of specialized target positions in dynamic measurements with their respective positions in static trials. This results in a 2D shift vector Delta(w) over right arrow with which the individual camera streams are corrected. The capabilities of this vibration reduction procedure are demonstrated in a test setup of four cameras that are (i) separately and (ii) simultaneously perturbed while capturing a static test object. In the former case, the correction algorithm is capable of reducing the reconstruction residuals to the order of the calibrations residual and enables reconstruction in the latter case, which is impossible without any correction. This approach extends the application of marker-based infrared motion tracking to moving and even accelerated camera setups. (c) 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

针对目前传统的红外焦平面自适应场景校正算法适用性的局限，本文创新的提出了一种基于红外焦平面非均匀性特征分解的场景校正算法，分析红外焦平面非性匀性构成因素，把红外焦平面非均匀性分解成盲点、行列非均匀性、梯度非均匀性等特征，然后对各类非均匀性采用不同的处理算法，最后合并完成校正。利用该算法在自主研发的热像仪中验证。实验表明，该算法校正精度高，适用性强，能有效克服了传统场景校正出现＇鬼影＇等图像退化现象，并且计算简单，满足实时性要求。

Near-field signal-redundancy (NFSR) algorithms for phase-aberration correction have been proposed and experimentally tested for linear and phased one-dimensional arrays. In this paper the performance of an all-row-plus-two-column, two-dimensional algorithm has been analyzed and tested with simulated data sets. This algorithm applies the NFSR algorithm for one-dimensional arrays to all the rows as well as the first and last columns of the array. The results from the two column measurements are used to derive a linear term for each row measurement result. These linear terms then are incorporated into the row results to obtain a two-dimensional phase aberration profile. The ambiguity phase aberration profile, which is the difference between the true and the derived phase aberration profiles, of this algorithm is not linear. Two methods, a trial-and-error method and a diagonal-measurement method, are proposed to linearize the ambiguity profile. The performance of these algorithms is analyzed and tested with simulated data sets.

Doppler weather radar is a type of radar used to locate precipitation, calculate its motion, and estimate its type (rain, snow, hail, etc.). Modern weather radars are mostly pulse-Doppler radars, capable of detecting the motion of rain droplets in addition to the intensity of the precipitation. Data obtained from weather radars can be analyzed to determine the structure of storms and their potential to cause severe weather s uch as local short-term rainfall. In recent years, the installation places of the Doppler weather radars are increased in order to predict more exactly the local short-term rainfall. However, Doppler weather radars which are installed closely cause interference to each other. As a result, the correct meteorological data are no longer obtained from the radars. From now on, the number of the radars will increase because of more localization of short-term rainfall. Therefore, the evaluation of conventional interference prevention techniques and improvement of the techniques are indispensable for stable and reliable operation of the radars. In this paper, clarifying the characteristics of the conventional interference detection and correction algorithm in Doppler weather radars, we propose a novel algorithm and show through computer simulation that it is more effective than the conventional one.

The raw output of a generic infrared vision system, based on staring arrays, is spatially not uniform. This spatial noise can be much greater than the system NETD, and determines a strong drop in system performance. Therefore we need to model all system non-uniformity (NU) sources to highlight the parameters that should be controlled by optical and mechanical design, the ones depending on the focal plane array and those that can be corrected in post-processing. In this paper, we identify the main NU sources (optical relative irradiance, housing straylight, detector pixel-pixel differences and non linearity), we show how to model these sources and how they are related to the design and physical parameters of the system. We then describe the total signal due to these sources at the detector output. Applying different NUC algorithms to this signal, the final results on the image can be simulated finding a proper correction algorithm. At the end we show the agreement between the model with the experimental data taken on a real system. Changing a limited set of parameters, this model can be applied to many third generation thermal imager configurations.

Over the past few years, a considerable number of studies have focused on estimation of arterial stiffness by using a digital volume pulse (DVP). This can generally be achieved by a linear regression analysis with several pulse parameters. Among various pulse parameters, since time-related pulse parameters, such as reflected wave arrival time, are varied with pulse rate, it can provide incorrectly estimated clinical information. In order to complement this problem, many previous studies suggested the following correction algorithms, which are widely used in ECG analysis: Bazett's formula, Fridericia's formula, and linear regression equation. Although these correction algorithms has been applied and tested in the ECG signal, they must be validated in the DVP since they can provide different performance in the DVP. Therefore, we have shown a comparison among commonly used correction algorithms for estimation of arterial stiffness in this paper. In order to compare the performance of the correction algorithms, we have carried out the correlation analysis by using a SPSS tool, which is typically used in statistical analysis. As a result, we can notice that it is reasonable to use both the Bazett's formula and linear regression equation for estimation of arterial stiffness by using time-related pulse parameters extracted from the DVP.

Models of word alignment built as sequences of links have limited expressive power, but are easy to decode. Word aligners that model the alignment matrix can express arbitrary alignments, but are difficult to decode. We propose an alignment matrix model as a correction algorithm to an underlying sequence-based aligner. Then a greedy decoding algorithm enables the full expressive power of the alignment matrix formulation. Improved alignment performance is shown for all nine language pairs tested. The improved alignments also improved translation quality from Chinese to English and English to Italian.

In this paper, a class of product codes based on low-density parity check (LDPC) constituent codes are constructed for multiple phased-burst erasure correction (MPBEC). These codes are shown to correct one large burst and/or a number of shorter bursts. A simple novel recursive erasure correction algorithm is proposed based on a recently discovered zero-span approach to linear block code analysis that can produce very powerful MPBEC capabilities. Analysis and data on how these codes work for additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel are also presented.
