This paper proposes a novel model for predicting the outdoor to indoor radio signal coverage. This model is based on a joint ray launching algorithm that adapts different resolutions for outdoor and indoor simulations. The performance of the joint ray launching method is evaluated by a measurement at 3.5 GHz frequency. This model appears to be efficient for a scenario with mixed resolutions, in terms of both accuracy and computational cost.

The strategies of frequency re-farming are proposed to demonstrate the feasibility of the system. Then Monte Carlo simulation is used to calculate the coverage prediction on LTE network in rural areas. Simulation results show that after frequency re-farming, the 800M LTE system has improvement in network coverage compared with 2.1 G LTE-FDD system without regard to capacity and switch performance.

A main challenge to wireless network performance management is how to estimate and monitor the wireless network coverage. In this paper a novel Machine to Machine (M2M) facilitated wireless network coverage prediction and real-time monitoring method is proposed. This method uses the telematics devices in connected vehicles to measure the wireless network performance with an auto-adaptive scheduling and reporting mechanism to minimize the impact to the performance. Then the wireless network coverage prediction model is set up and adjusted real-timely with the M2M measurements using improved algorithms to get a higher accuracy. The verification and estimation of this method based on simulations are presented, result shows that this M2M facilitated method is feasible and has obvious advantage in accuracy compared with traditional approach.

This paper aims to establish the characterization of coverage of signals in 700 MHz band in indoor environments. This band was chosen because its allocation to be used by the Long Term Evolution (LTE) broadband communication systems in Brazil. The measurements procedure to characterize the behavior of the signal coverage were carried out by the arithmetic media of nine measured points, calculated in an area of 1 m~2, at regularly spaced intervals so as to ensure a smaller influence of the fast fading phenomenon. The simulated results were obtained using the commercial program Winprop, based on the Ray-Tracing method. Furthermore, simulated results are also obtained using a simplified model, for which virtual transmitters are positioned at the beginning of each non line of sight corridor. A good agreement is observed between measured and simulated results, which instigates the use of the proposed simplified model and measurement procedure. It was shown that is not required an extensive measurement and simulation along all the environment extension in a situation without line of sight to predict the received power.

The recently developed digital radio systems for the medium wave(MW) band require accurate field strength prediction methods for coverage calculi. Traditional prediction methods do not consider the influence of urban factors on MW ground-wave propagation. This influence causes signal strength time and spatial variability which in turn, provoke drop-outs below reception threshold values. In this letter the ground-wave spatial variability is statistically analyzed in urban environments by means of empirical data from four extensive field trials. The experiments were carried out in different urban environments and at different frequencies of the MW band. Prior to the analysis, long-term and short-term components of the signal were separated by means of the generalized Lee method (GLM). The results show the attenuation caused by different urban factors. These attenuation values should be added to the signal strength predicted median values in order to ensure correct reception.

A novel approach is proposed to predict the coverage of urban and suburban cells in wireless networks. By this approach, the propagation loss between any two points along the virtual propagation path from the base-station to the mobile-station within a predicted area can be deduced in an average sense with reasonable accuracy, based on an a priori series of measurements, finite and limited in extent, taken along the periphery of this area. The effectiveness of the proposed method has been demonstrated using experiments under various radio environments in Guang Dong, China. Calculations on the expected coverage of millimeter-wave propagation in suburban areas of systems beyond 3G are presented. Considering that these systems are envisioned to have a minimum aggregate cell payload of 100 Mbps, the cell ranges are estimated. These calculations are performed with the use of different coverage prediction methods and propagation models. The results of these calculations are compared and the best model for each case is defined. Specific emphasis is given to the WirelessMAN(TM) [4] (IEEE 802.16), the under standardization American air interface for broadband wireless access.
