This paper investigates the wireless power coverage and the transmission probability in a network where multiple access points, distributed according to a homogeneous Poisson point process, cooperate in the energy transfer towards harvesting devices. Using distributed energy beamforming and maximum ratio transmission, and leveraging stochastic geometry tools, the power coverage probability and the transmission probability are obtained in closed-form for three types of devices, namely, inner-cell, cell-edge, and vertex-cell. Exact formulae for the coverage and transmission metrics when devices are serviced by single energy sources are also provided. The impact of the main network parameters on performance is analyzed. In particular, comparative results show the significant gains that can be achieved in the coverage and transmission probabilities when multiple access points participate in the wireless power transfer, as compared to the non-cooperative scheme.

Millimeter wave (mmWave) communication technology has been widely discussed as a promising part to be used in 5th Generation (5G) fig: interference networks. However, mmWave signals are sensitive to blockage compared with traditional spectrums used for cellular networks, which proposes new challenges. In addition, 5G networks will support Time-Division Duplex (TDD) mode, which is able to provide flexible and dynamic uplink-downlink (UL-DL) configurations. However, dynamic adjustment will then introduce UL-DL interference and will further influence system performance. This paper will focus on the coverage probability of mmWave communication network with dynamic TDD configuration based on stochastic geometry analysis. Both the Line-of-Sight (LoS) link and Non-Line-of-Sight (NLoS) link are modeled, since the transmissions of mmWave signals will be greatly influenced by different link types. coverage probabilities for downlink and uplink are analyzed, respectively. Furthermore, in order to mitigate the UL-DL interference introduced by dynamic TDD, the Almost-Blank-SubFrame (ABSF) scheme is studied in this work. In ABSF scheme, a base station with DL transmission will mute temporarily to avoid severe DL-UL interference to nearby base stations with LoS links and UL transmissions. Possible improvement after introducing ABSF is studied by updating downlink and uplink coverage probability expressions. Numerical results under different configurations are obtained and discussed. It is shown that uplink coverage probability is greatly influenced by downlink interference, which provides basis for applying ABSF. Improvements by ABSF are validated by corresponding results.

Video streaming and mobile TV services have recently gained great research interest with the advances in mobile hardware technologies and the development of single frequency networks (SFN). However, the analysis of the coverage probability of these services in SFN has been and remains a complicated task due to the specific behavior of the received SFN signal and its effect on the useful signal. In this framework, we propose a new approach to model and evaluate the coverage probability for such network configuration. More particularly, using stochastic geometry, we propose a suitable approximation of the problem based on the closest SFN base stations. The resulted expressions represent a lower bound for the probability of coverage of the SFN. The proposed approximation leads to a good tradeoff between accuracy and tractability. Numerical simulation results prove the validity of the proposed approach and related theoretical results, especially in a high path loss environment.

In this paper, we study coverage probabilities of the UAV-assisted cellular network modeled by 2-dimension (2D) Poisson point process. The cellular user is assumed to connect to the nearest aerial base station. We derive the explicit expressions for the downlink coverage probability for the Rayleigh fading channel. Furthermore, we explore the behavior of performance when taking the property of air-to-ground channel into consideration. Our analytical and numerical results show that the coverage probability is affected by UAV height, pathloss exponent and UAV density. To maximize the coverage probability, the optimal height and density of UAVs are studied, which could be beneficial for the UAV deployment design.

In this paper, we analyze the coverage probability of a large-scale heterogenous cellular network (HetNet) where base stations (BSs) are equipped with multiantennas, serving a number of single-antenna user equipments (UEs) in the downlink-space division multiple access (SDMA). Adopting the tool of stochastic geometry, we analyze the coverage probability under the quantized zero-forcing beamforming (ZFBF). This analysis, however, intricate as a typical UE in a given cell experiences: i) a residual inter-user interference (IUI) rendered by the quantization error;ii) quantization-driven statistical correlation between its attending signal power and IUI;iii) Nakagami-type fading environment, induced by postprocessing ZFBF;and iv) intercell interference (ICI). Current related literature has not effectively accounted for issues (i), (ii), and (iv) and commonly resorted to simplifying scenarios of full SDMA (i.e., exponential fading), independency of IUI and attending signal power, approximating IUI via an exponential random variable, and the quantization cell approximation (QCA). Our analysis relaxes such limiting assumptions;it includes the more relevant random vector quantization (RVQ) method, and compared to the literature, does not resort to the evaluation of a higher order differentiation for the evaluation of the coverage probability by exploiting our previously developed method. We further introduce three novel approximations of the coverage probability: RVQ-M, RVG-G, and QCA, which the first two approximations are given in semi-closed-form formulas (requiring a simple integration step) and the last approximation is in a closed-form expression. All approximations are numerically affordable, and we confirm the RVG-G approximation is the most accurate one. Finally, we exploit our analysis to study several practically insightful issues to shed some lights on: 1) for given feedback capacity and number of UEs, when desification becomes beneficial;2) how multitierness of

In cellular networks, each mobile station adjusts its power level under control of its base station, i.e., through uplink transmit power control, which is essential to reach desired signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) at the base station and to limit inter-cell interference. The optimal levels of transmit power in a network depend on path loss, shadowing, and multipath fading, as well as the network configuration. However, since path loss is distance dependent and the cell association distances are correlated due to the cell association policies, the performance analysis of the uplink transmit power control is very complicated. Consequently, the impact of a specific power control algorithm on network performance is hard to quantify. In this paper, we analyze three uplink transmit power control schemes. We assume the standard power-law path loss and composite Rayleigh-lognormal fading. Using stochastic geometry tools, we derive the cumulative distribution function and the probability density function of the uplink transmit power and the resulting network coverage probability. It is shown that the coverage is highly dependent on the severity of shadowing, the power control scheme, and its parameters, but invariant of the density of deployment of base stations when the shadowing is mild and power control is fractional. At low SINRs, compensation of both path loss and shadowing improves the coverage. However, at high SINRs, compensating for path loss only improves coverage. Increase in the severity of shadowing significantly reduces the coverage.

This paper studies the opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) of the secondary users in a large-scale overlay cognitive radio (CR) network powered by renewable energy to improve both the energy and spectral efficiency of data transmission. Particularly, with energy harvesting module and energy storage module, the primary transmitters (PTs) and secondary transmitters (STs) are assumed to be able to collect ambient renewables and store them in batteries for future use. Upon harvesting sufficient energy, the corresponding PTs and STs (denoted by eligible PTs and STs) are then allowed to access the spectrum according to their respective medium access control (MAC) protocols. For the primary network, an Aloha type of MAC protocol is considered, under which the eligible PTs make independent decisions to access the spectrum with probability pp. For the secondary network, a threshold-based Opportunistic spectrum access (OSA) scheme, namely the primary transmitter assisted (PTA) protocol, is investigated, under which an eligible ST is allowed to access the spectrum only if the maximum signal power of the received pilots sent from the active primary transmitters (PTs) is lower than a certain threshold N-ta. By applying tools from random walk theory and stochastic geometry, and assuming infinite battery capacity for energy storage module, we characterize the transmission probabilities of PTs and STs, respectively. With the obtained results of transmission probability, we then evaluate the coverage (transmission non-outage) performance of the overlay CR network powered by renewable energy. The wireless power transfer via an electro-magnetic (EM) wave enables far-field power transfer. In this paper, we provide an analytic and experimental study on a distributed antenna system for the wireless power transfer as a mean to overcome low end-to-end power transfer efficiency of a conventional collocated antenna system. We study the wireless power transfer system with or without the frequency and phase synchronization between antennas. Based on the experimental results, we show that the distributed antenna system is advantageous in terms of the coverage probability as long as the optimal distributed beamforming is available in the distributed antenna system.

Closed-Form Approximations for coverage probability of Multistream MIMO-ZFBF Receivers in HetNets

The evaluation of the coverage probability of multistream multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communications in HetNets subject to noise, fading, and intercell interference is undoubtedly intricate. Unfortunately, the current literature misses its comprehensive evaluation, as the effects of noise and crossstream correlation are often overlooked. Furthermore, computationally friendly expressions of the coverage probability allowing engineering insights and adaptive system design are lacking. For multistream MIMO zero-forcing beamforming, in this paper we tackle these issues by considering scenarios where a receiver is in the coverage if all of its data-streams are successfully decoded. Assuming the max signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) cell association (CA), we adopt the stochastic geometry tools to provide an upper bound and an easy-to-compute closed-form lower bound on the coverage probability, while their accuracies are confirmed against extensive simulations. Our contributions are as follows. We prove that full correlation of data streams of a given link slightly reduces the coverage performance. We show that from a coverage probability perspective, the single stream communication is preferable. We exploit our analysis to explore several pertinent design issues, which have not fully discussed in the literature. Our results demonstrate tradeoffs between densification and multiplexing gains. We, further, see that by appropriately designating feedback channel with modest capacity 8 bits per frame per user, the spatial throughput grows by nearly 180% over the conventional 1-bit feedback scenario. Finally, We present important extensions of our analysis to underlay spectrum sharing, practical aspects of the max-SINR CA, and a nonhomogeneous path loss environment.
