This paper describes an FPGA circuit simulation method for self-timed data-driven processor with ultra-low-power real-time multiprocessing capability preferable to IoT systems. To avoid the do-overs of circuit design, the processor's performance should be verified, in early design phase, against a given target. Although this processor is realized by an asynchronous circuit, most FPGA devices are oriented to clock-synchronized circuits and their CAD tools have no support for such high level verification. Conventionally, a gate-level simulation with actual circuit delay information is used as a substitute;however, it lacks flexibility and is becoming unavailable. Already, asynchronous circuit design methods for FPGA have been proposed, but they are primarily focused on circuit implementation and optimization. In this paper, we propose a high level simulation method to provide RTL simulation with stage-by-stage data transfer timing, and we show the proposed simulation can achieve the early design phase verification with a sufficient accuracy.

This paper proposes a basic concept of person-oriented ubiquitous and secure information sharing environment. In the ubiquitous network environment, people, within a predefined restriction, can access and use information, network and computing resources wherever and whenever they are. Here, the owner of the resource and/or information is not necessarily same as the user. At the same time, the user specific information does exist which is owned by the user itself but often managed by other organization. So the secure and safe resource management is required. We propose two approaches for consolidating the ubiquitous and secure information sharing platform, one is right-token management platform and the other is use of objective-specific VPN. We also propose to use a data-driven networking processor as a hardware platform supporting above resource and data management platform layers, which has in nature the passiveness and high real-time multi-processing capability. We propose to use it as engines for continuous authentication and enciphering at the terminal side and communication protocol handlers, authentication and enciphering in the network.

This paper discusses and clarifies effectiveness of data-driven implementation of protocol handling system to access TINA (Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture) network and internet. TINA is a networking architecture that achieves networking services and management ubiquitously for users and networks. Many TINA related ACTS (Advanced Communication Technologies and Services) projects have been organized in Europe. In Japan, The TINA Trial (TTT) to achieve ATM network management and services based on TINA architectures was done by NTT and several manufactures from April 1997 to April 1999. In these studies and trials, much effort is devoted to development of software based on service architecture and network architecture being standardized in TINA-C (TINA Consortium). In order to achieve TINA environment universally in customers and network sides, we have to consider how to deploy TINA environment onto user side and how to use access transmission capacity as efficiently as possible. Recent technology can easily achieve application and environment downloading from the network side to user side by use of e.g., JAVA. In accessing the network, there are several possible bottlenecks in information exchange in customer side such as PC processing capability, access protocol handling capability, intra-house wiring bandwidth. Authors, in parallel with TINA software architecture study, have been studying versatile requirements for hardware platform of TINA network, In those studies, we have clarified that the stream-oriented data-driven processor authors have been studying and developing have high reliability, high multiprocessing and multimedia information processing capability. Based on these studies, this paper first shows Von Neumann-based protocol handler is ineffective in case of multiprocessing through mathematical and emulation studies. Then, we show our data-driven protocol handling can effectively realize access protocol handling by emulation study.

This paper describes the effectiveness of stream-oriented data-driven scheme for achieving autonomous fault management of hyper-distributed systems such as networks based on the Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture (TINA). TINA, whose specifications are in the finalizing phase within TINA-Consortium, is aiming at achieving interoperability and reusability of telecom applications software and independent of underlying technologies. However, to actually implement TINA network, it is essential to consider the technology constraints. Especially autonomous fault management at run-time is crucial for distributed network environment because centralized control using global information is very difficult. So far many works have been done on so-called off-line management but runtime management of service failure seems immature. This paper proposes introduction of stream-oriented data-driven processors to the autonomous fault management at runtime in TINA based distributed network environment. It examines the features of distributed network applications and technology requirements to achieve fault management of those distributed applications such as effective multi-processing of surveillance, testing, reconfiguration in addition to ordinary processing. It shows basic features of stream-oriented data-driven processors which performs effective multi-processing without any overhead, overload tolerance, and passive nature giving less side-effects to the environment based on dynamic data-driven scheme which is realized as autonomous elastic pipelines on VLSIs. Effectiveness of the features is demonstrated through some preliminary experiments. The feature is suitable for runtime management. Then, it is proposed to apply the processor to the fault management of TINA environment and is shown that the stream-oriented data-driven processor can achieve effective fault management capability such as surveillance, fault detection, and isolation without any overhead.

This paper discusses the effectiveness of a data-driven implementation of interface for protocol/media processing in multimedia networking environment. Realtime multi-processing in network/media processing are necessary in multimedia networking environment to meet time constraints in each media. In protocol handling which is typical one of network processing, however, pseudo multi-processing on von Neumann processor can't meet time constraints because of runtime overheads by Context switching. Therefore, the authors proposes implementing protocol/media processing on CUE (Coordinating Users' requirement and Engineering constraints) series data-driven processor which realize realtime multi-processing without runtime overheads. This paper describes a data-driven implementation of protocol handling used in CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) to realize realtime multi-processing and programmability for flexible protocol handling. Then, we propose data-driven I/O interface for multimedia networking environment. To utilize performance of CUE processor, it is important to keep steady input. We study data-driven I/O interface which realize ideal input stream and handshake control without bottlenecks.

Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture (TINA) is aiming at reusability and interoperability of software by use of location/fault transparency of objects based on distributed processing and object orientation technologies. Currently many attempts to realize TINA commercial systems are ongoing all over the world. As the first step of those attempts, the TINA Trial (TIT) is scheduled to be realized in 1998. To achieve the quality to be used for the commercial systems, quality study not only of software but also of hardware platforms becomes key. This paper intends to clarify the requirements of TINA-based high-quality multimedia networks and possible solutions by considering the TIT system which the authors are developing. The requirements from the perspective of quality are effective usage of system processing capability by effective multiprocessing without any processing overhead and improvement of system stability by fault management achieving autonomous system reconfiguration. This paper shows the desirability of applying stream-oriented data-driven processor to the TINA system so as to satisfy these requirements. (C) 1998 Scripta Technica.

This paper discusses the engineering requirements and those possible solutions to actually implement distributed network environment based on TINA,Telecommunications Information Networking Architecture. How to realize fault management of both software and hardware, how to realize effective protocol handling to achieve high throughput to transfer messages and stream,and how to achieve overload tolerance of nodes accommodating DPE(Distributed Processing Environment) servers such as trader,are typical requirements to actually implement a distributed systems based on TINA technology. To satisfy these requirements,this paper proposes the use of streamoriented data-driven processors authors have been developing,and demonstrates how the data-driven processors can realize the requirement.
