The problem of inland freight planning from the perspective of a medium size transport company operating in the EU market is studied. The authors embark on a path to put Information Technologies to work in order to reduce manual overhead and facilitate decision-making within this domain by algorithmically approximating the potential profitability of freight offers based on multiple criteria and shortlisting the most promising offers. Following the Design Science Research approach, the Proof of Concept of IT-enabled decision support solution for logistics companies is delivered and validated. Several strategies for choosing an offer among many for a truck with a given spatio-temporal location are investigated and compared.

We study an extension of temporal logic, a multi-agent logic on models with nontransitive linear time (which is, in a sense, also an extension of interval logic). The proposed relational models admit lacunas in admissibility relations among agents: information accessible for one agent may be inaccessible for others. A logical language uses temporary operators 'until' and 'next' (for each of the agents), via which we can introduce modal operations 'possible' and 'necessary.' The main problem under study for the logic introduced is the recognition problem for admissibility of inference rules. Previously, this problem was dealt with for a logic in which transitivity intervals have a fixed uniform length. Here the uniformity of length is not assumed, and the logic is extended by individual temporal operators for different agents. An algorithm is found which decides the admissibility problem in a given logic, i.e., it recognizes admissible inference rules.

A systematic review of clinical decision support systems for antimicrobial management: are we failing to investigate these interventions appropriately?

Objectives: Clinical decision support systems (CDSS) for antimicrobial management can support clinicians to optimize antimicrobial therapy. We reviewed all original literature (qualitative and quantitative) to understand the current scope of CDSS for antimicrobial management and analyse existing methods used to evaluate and report such systems. Method: PRISMA guidelines were followed. Medline, EMBASE, HMIC Health and Management and Global Health databases were searched from 1 January 1980 to 31 October 2015. All primary research studies describing CDSS for antimicrobial management in adults in primary or secondary care were included. For qualitative studies, thematic synthesis was performed. Quality was assessed using Integrated quality Criteria for the Review Of Multiple Study designs (ICROMS) criteria. CDSS reporting was assessed against a reporting framework for behaviour change intervention implementation. Results: Fifty-eight original articles were included describing 38 independent CDSS. The majority of systems target antimicrobial prescribing (29/38;76%), are platforms integrated with electronic medical records (28/38;74%), and have a rules-based infrastructure providing decision support (29/38;76%). On evaluation against the intervention reporting framework, CDSS studies fail to report consideration of the non-expert, end-user workflow. They have narrow focus, such as antimicrobial selection, and use proxy outcome measures. Engagement with CDSS by clinicians was poor. Conclusion: Greater consideration of the factors that drive non-expert decision making must be considered when designing CDSS interventions. Future work must aim to expand CDSS beyond simply selecting appropriate antimicrobials with clear and systematic reporting frameworks for CDSS interventions developed to address current gaps identified in the reporting of evidence. Assessment of the Intraoperative Consultation Service Rendered by General Pathologists in a Scenario Where a Well-Defined decision Algorithm Is Followed

Objectives: Intraoperative consultation (IOC) remains an area of general practice even within subspecialized pathology departments. This study assesses the IOCs rendered in a general pathology setting where surgeons integrate these results in a well-defined algorithm, developed with the input of specialized pathologists. Methods: The surgical decisions to perform lymphadenectomy in patients with endometrial adenocarcinoma operated on at our institution between January 2003 and June 2015 as a result of the IOC assessment of tumor size, histologic grade, and depth of invasion in the hysterectomy specimen were analyzed. Results: Frozen section (FS) was examined in 801 cases. In comparison to permanent section analysis, FS International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) grade had an overall accuracy of 0.95 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.93-0.98). The FS depth of invasion had an overall accuracy of 0.92 (95% CI, 0.89-0.94). FIGO grade was not documented in 47.8%, the depth of myometrial invasion in 45.2%, and tumor size in 41.8% of the pathology reports. Conclusions: The high omission rate of the needed parameters by the general pathologists would question their overall understanding of the paradigm shift intended by this algorithm. Possible explanations of this phenomenon and potential solutions are discussed.

The aim of this research programme was to develop a series of methods and solutions to support the decision-making process in foundry and materials engineering. The specific problems discussed included the selection of methods for data processing and knowledge representation formalisms, backed up by the creation of decision algorithms based on contemporary achievements of artificial intelligence, tailored to the needs of foundry industry and metallurgy. The manufacturing process of metal items is associated with many aspects, which affect the quality of end product. For process engineers responsible for the supervising and planning of production, an important feature is, among others, the diversified nature of numerous aspects of the knowledge acquisition and integration from distributed sources of information which, when made available in an appropriate manner, can support the improvement of manufacturing process.

Cognitive Network Management Framework and Approach for Video Streaming Optimization in Heterogeneous Networks

The future Internet will be highly heterogeneous in supporting a multitude of access technologies and networks with overlapping coverages. Optimization of network operations like management of resources, mobility or Quality of Service in order to ensure smooth network operation and high user satisfaction will be very challenging in the future networks. Cognitive network management can provide a solution of managing such complex systems. This paper studies cognitive network management in the context of optimizing video streaming performance in heterogeneous multi-access networks. The paper proposes a network management framework that relies on cognitive decision techniques in the joint optimization of network and video service performance. The proposed solution is also implemented and validated in part in a testbed environment. The results attest the feasibility of the solution as well as the benefits of cognitive decision techniques over non-learning or non-adaptive approaches.

We study k-prefix-free, k-suffix-free and k-infix-free languages that generalize prefix-free, suffix-free and infix-free languages by allowing marginal errors. For example, a string x in a k-prefix-free language L can be a prefix of up to k different strings in L. Namely, a code (language) can allow some marginal errors. We also define finitely prefix-free languages in which a string x can be a prefix of finitely many strings. We present efficient algorithms that determine whether or not a given regular language is k-prefix-free, k-suffix-free or k-infix-free, and analyze their runtime. Lastly, we establish the undecidability results for (linear) context-free languages.

The idea of the Pawlak's flow graphs is applicable to many problems in various fields related to decision algorithms or data mining. The flow graphs can be used also in the video surveillance systems. Especially in distributed multi-camera systems which are problematic to be handled by human operators because of their limited perception. In such systems automated video analysis needs to be implemented. Important part of this analysis is tracking object within a single camera and between cameras' fields of vision. One of element needed to re-identify the single real object besides object's visual features and spatio-temporal dependencies between cameras is a behaviour model. The flow graph after some modifications, is a suitable data structure, which concept is based on the rough set theory, to contained as a behaviour model in it. Additionally, the flow graph can be used to predict the future movement of given object. In this paper a survey of authors research works related to employing flowgraphs in video surveillance systems is contained. The flow graph creation based on the paths of objects inside supervised area will presented. Moreover, a method of building a probability tree on the basis of the flow graph and a method for adapting the flowgraph to the changing topology of the camera network are also discussed.

The aim of this paper was to investigate the problem of music data processing and mining in large databases. Tests were performed on a large database that included approximately 30000 audio files divided into 11 classes corresponding to music genres with different cardinalities. Every audio file was described by a 173-element feature vector. To reduce the dimensionality of data the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with variable value of factors was employed. The tests were conducted in the WEKA application with the use of k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), Bayesian Network (Net) and Sequential Minimal Optimization (SMO) algorithms. All results were analyzed in terms of the recognition rate and computation time efficiency.

Test generation procedures for large VLSI designs are required to achieve close to 100% fault coverage using a small number of tests. They also must accommodate on-chip test compression circuits which are widely used in modern designs. To obtain test sets with small sizes one could use extra hardware such as test points or use software techniques. An important aspects impacting test generation is the number of specified positions, which facilitate the encoding of test cubes when using test compression logic. Fortuitous detection or generation of tests such that they facilitate detection of yet not targeted faults, is also an important goal for test generation procedures. At first, we consider the generation of compact test sets for designs using on-chip test compression logic. We introduce two new measures to guide automatic test generation procedures (ATPGs) to balance between these two contradictory requirements of fortuitous detection and number of specifications. One of the new measures is meant to facilitate detection of yet undetected faults, and the value of the measures is periodically updated. The second measure reduces the number of specified positions, which is crucial when using high compression. Additionally, we introduce a way to randomly choose between the two measures. We also propose an ATPG methodology tailored for BIST ready designs with X-bounding logic and test points. X-bounding and test points used to have a significant impact on test data compression by reducing the number of specified positions. We propose a new ATPG guidance mechanism that balances between reduced specifications in BIST ready designs, and also facilitates detection of undetected faults. We also found that compact test generation for BIST ready designs is influenced by the order in which faults are targeted, and we proposed a new fault ordering technique based on fault location in a FFR.
