On the decoder error probability of bounded rank-distance decoders for maximum rank distance codes

In this correspondence, we first introduce the concept of elementary linear subspace, which has similar properties to those of a set of coordinates. We then use elementary linear subspaces to derive properties of maximum rank distance (MRD) codes that parallel those of maximum distance separable codes. Using these properties, we show that, for MRD codes with error correction capability t, the decoder error probability of bounded rank distance decoders decreases exponentially with t(2) based on the assumption that all errors with the same rank are equally likely.

This paper presents generalized expressions for the probabilities of correct decoding and decoder error for Reed-Solomon (RS) codes, In these expressions, the symbol error and erasure probabilities are different in each coordinate in a codeword, The above expressions are used to derive the expressions for reliability and delay for Type-I hybrid ARQ (HARQ-I) systems when each symbol in a packet (multiple codewords per packet) has unique symbol error and erasure probabilities. Applications of the above results are demonstrated by analyzing a bursty-correlative channel in which the symbols and codewords within the packet are correlated.

McEliece and Swanson offered an upper bound on the decoder error probability of Reed-Solomon codes. In this paper, we investigate the decoder error probability of binary linear block codes and verify its properties, and apply it to binary primitive BCH codes. It is shown that the decoder error probability of an (n, k, t) binary linear block code is determined by P-E (=(2(k) - 2) (s=0)Sigma(t)((n)(s))/(2(n) - 2(s=0)Sigma(t)((n)(s)))) uniquely if is a constant. We derive the decoder error probability of (n, k, t) binary primitive BCH codes with n=2(m)-1 and 2t-1 < 2[(m/2)] + 1 and show that the decoder error probabilities of those codes are close to P-E if codelength is large and coderate is high. We also compute and analyze the decoder error probabilities of some binary primitive BCH codes.

Exact performance analysis of linear block codes in frequency-hop spread spectrum communication systems

We present a framework for determining the exact decoder error and failure probabilities for linear block codes in a frequency-hop communication channel with an arbitrary number of conditional symbol error and erasure probabilities. Applications are demonstrated for type-I hybrid ARQ systems by deriving equations for the packet error probability and throughput. Because these quantities are too small to be obtained by simulation, the framework provides exact results which are unobtainable by previous work.
