In many application suck as face detection or recognition a major phase would be eye detection. In addition, its wide use as a part of serious applications, made it an important task should be worked on. Using color characteristics is a useful way to detect eyes. We use special color space, YCbCr which its components give us worthwhile information about eyes. We make two maps according to its components and merge them to obtain a final map. Candidates are generated on this final map. We apply an extra phase on candidates to determine suitable eye pair. The extra phase consists of flexible thresholding and geometrical tests. Flexible thresholding makes generating candidates more carefully and geometrical tests allow proper candidates to be selected as eyes. Simulation results on CVI and Iranian Databases showed this phase improved the correct detection rate by about 12.4% and reach 98.5% success rate on the average.

This paper presents a novel audio-visual fusion method for speech detection, which is an important front-end for content-based video processing. This approach aims to extract homogeneous speech segments from the accompanying audio stream in real-world movie/TV videos with the help of video captions. Note that captions are mainly created to help viewers to follow the dialog, rather than to accurately locate the speech regions. We propose a caption-aided speech detection approach, which makes use of both caption information and audio information. The inaccurate positions of the captions are refined through using audio features (pitch and MFCCs) and BIC-based acoustic change detection. Comparison experiments against several other traditional speech detection approaches are conducted, showing that the proposed approach improves the speech detection performance greatly.

This paper proposes a novel scene change detection algorithm based on the 3D wavelet transform. In scene change including cut, dissolve and fade, the frames have particular temporal and spatial layouts. The dissolve and the fade have strong temporal and spatial correlation; on the contract the correlation of the cut is weak. The 3D wavelet transform can effectively express the correlation of the several successive frames since the low-frequency and high-frequency component coefficients have the proper statistics regularities which can effectively identify the shot transitions. Three features are computed to describe the correlation of the shot transitions, which are input to support vector machines for scene change detection. Experimental results show that the method is effective for the gradual shot transition detection.

During the past decade, multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) systems have received a significant attention because of its promising capacity increase over single-input-single-output (SISO) systems. In this paper, as a key technology, we present a novel M-paths MIMO detection algorithm with dynamic-layer-ordering for spatial-multiplexing MIMO systems over rich scattering wireless environment. This algorithm obtains a near-ML detection performance (e.g., only 0.2 dB performance degradation for 4-TX and 4-RX MIMO with 16 QAM) with a much lower computational complexity compared to the ML detection. We also develop an recursive procedure for dynamic-layer-ordering and reduce the ordering complexity from O(N T 4 ) to O(N T 3 ), where N T is the number of TX antennas. In order to verify the feasibility and performance, a pipelined structure is designed and implemented in FPGA with limited hardware resources and a 200 Mbps throughput.

In a wireless sensor network, sensors are scattered randomly by aircraft or rocket ejection. On account of scattered randomness, there may be sparse areas of sensors, in which, sensors cannot detect every hole and corner. Aimed at the region coverage, from another profile, the paper analyses and explains that the randomness of sensor scattered and the limitation of sensor monitor capability lead the appearance of potential traversing path in the whole wireless sensor network, and proposes the potential target traversing detection algorithm based on Voronoi diagram and corresponding solution. Through the analysis of experimental results, the feasibility and the validity of the detection algorithm are proved, and the potential risk can be made up by corresponding solution.

This paper introduces a new extended average magnitude difference function (EAMDF) for noise robust pitch detection. EAMDF involves in sufficient number of averaging for all lag values compared to the original AMDF, and thereby eliminates the falling tendency of the AMDF without emphasizing pitch harmonics at higher lags, which is a severe limitation of other existing improvements of the AMDF. A noise robust post processing that explores the contribution of each frequency channel is also presented. Experimental results on Keele pitch database in different noise level shows the superiority of the proposed EAMDF based pitch detection method over other methods based on AMDF.

In this paper, against Hsu R L skin tone detection algorithm, which has high missing detection ratio when the facial brightness of an image is high, we introduce a new nonlinear transformation method of the YCb "Cr" color skin space, which is the color segmentation of the human face for regional analysis and extraction; Then implement image rotation and template matching. Experimental results indicate that when the facial brightness of an image is high, the new proposed nonlinear color space conversion algorithm based on YCbCr color space is better than the simple method, which wipes off the effect of the brightness directly, and Hsu R L skin detection algorithm. The series of experimental results demonstrate clearly that our new method has a higher detection ratio on high bright facial images, and can drop the false or missing detection ratio on high luminance images. Besides, we have more detailed testing results on the eyes, eyebrows, mouth and other parts.

Anomaly detection is currently an important and active research problem in many fields and involved in numerous applications. Most of the existing methods are based on distance measure which can produce better results as compared to other methods. But in case of datastream these methods are computationally less efficient. In order to find some specified number of neighbors for each data element make these methods inappropriate for datasteam environment, because of the huge volume of DataStream. Moreover, declaring a point as an outlier as it arrives, can often lead us to a wrong decision. In this paper we introduced an algorithm which divide incoming stream in chunks and make preliminary clusters in each chunk during the first stage. In the second stage K-nearest neighbor approach for outlier detection is applied to each cluster. In this way we can reduce the nearest neighbor searches for each data element as well as can detect better outliers with evolution of data stream. Several experiments on different datasets confirm that our technique can find suitable outliers with low computational cost than the other exiting distance based approaches for outlier detection over data stream.

Compared with the conventional FDE scheme, the FDE-NP structure which consists of a linear frequency domain equalizer (FDE) and a time domain noise predictor (NP) has lower complexity and achieves better performance and complexity trade-off. In this paper, we propose a selective detection algorithm for FDE-NP model in MIMO system, which we refer to as selective feedback detection (FDE-NP-SEL) algorithm. By evaluating the average MMSEs during the data transmission for all the possible feedback modes, the new detection algorithm chooses the optimal one to design time-domain NPs. In particular, to simplify the design of the feedback filters, we consider an inverted ordered detection (FDE-NP-INV) algorithm, in which decisions are fed back to predict and cancel their pre-cursor inter-symbol interference (ISI) effects to the previous signals. Simulation results show that the new proposed FDE-NP-INV scheme achieves significant performance improvement over the conventional FDE-NP scheme with the same complexity. Furthermore, we propose the hybrid ordered detection (FDE-NP-HYB) algorithm by combining the FDE-NP-INV algorithm with the conventional FDE-NP scheme . It is shown that the proposed FDE-NP-HYB can further improve the performance.
