This paper describes the development of an autonomous ground vehicle that participated in the 2007 DARPA urban challenge. Specifically, this paper introduces LADAR based static and moving obstacle detection algorithms for several traffic scenarios in the urban environment. The obstacle detection algorithm is critical for avoiding collisions with other vehicles and for safe driving at high speed. On the real road, the driver is faced with numerous traffic situations ranging from intersection traversal and lane changing to passing a stopped or slow moving car or performing a U-turn. For an unmanned vehicle to be successful, it must collect, interpret and act on sensor data about the surrounding world. The 2007 DARPA urban challenge demonstrated various approaches to navigate through these traffic scenarios. This paper outlines the approach used by the University of Floridapsilas Team Gator Nation to address the question of both static and dynamic obstracle detection.

According, to the new discrete particle swarm optimization (NDPSO) and combining NDPSO with the mutation operator of the genetic algorithm, we proposed a novel hybrid discrete particle swarm optimization detection algorithm for the vertical bell-labs layered space-time (V-BLAST) system. The complexity of the proposed detection algorithm is analyzed. Compared with the maximum likelihood (ML) detection algorithm which has the best BER performance but the highest computational complexity, the proposed detection algorithm is capable of reducing the computational complexity significantly. Simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) of the proposed algorithm is very close to that of the ML detection algorithm and significantly lower than the other suboptimal detection algorithms. The algorithm is a new method to solve the detection problem in V-BLAST system.

In this paper, we introduce a multipitch detection algorithm which is based on weighted summary correlogram. The weight is described as a conditional probability which models the relationship between fundamental frequency (FO) of periodic sound and response frequency of its dominated channels. Modified by this weight, SACF obtains more robustness to noise and to sub-harmonic error. The proposed algorithm can be used to track single or multiple pitches under noisy environment. Its performance is evaluated on 100 mixed sounds which comprise 10 voiced speeches and 10 different kinds of noises. The results show that our model has better performance than existing algorithms.

This paper presents the programmable logic devices implementation of islanding detection for grid connected inverter with under/over voltage and under/over frequency islanding detection algorithms. The design are based on the field programmable gate array (FPGA) and the complex programmable logic device (CPLD). The logic circuits inside PLDs chip are design, implementation, testing and debugging by software development without hardware modification. The prototypes of PLDs for islanding detection are monitor the grid voltage and grid frequency at the point of common coupling (PCC) between the grid connected inverter, the local load and the distribution transformer and processed the value of voltage and frequency for turned on - off relay between grid connected inverter and utility grid. The results of study, the prototypes can turn off relay when the voltage is change under 200V or over 240V and frequency is change under 48Hz or over 52Hz. The FPGA-based is operated faster and high capacity than CPLD-based but the cost of design is higher.

Traditional outlier detection algorithms are designed to apply to centralized databases, not distributed databases. We proposed a novel outlier detection algorithm for distributed databases. Given data assigned to different network nodes of a network platform, where each node has its own memory and hard disc, and the communication between nodes driven by message, the populated data would be non-overlapping. The working way of the network system is a manager-worker mode, that is, that a node as manager is responsible for assigning tasks to worker and querying the results from worker nodes. The algorithm first detected local outliers based on distance on all nodes, and then identified local outliers collected in the central node where a globally screening operation on all local outliers was implemented to achieve really global outliers. To scale the algorithm to massive data and reduce its computing complexity, a data filtering technology was further presented. Experimental results demonstrated that the algorithm effectively and efficiently handled on real and artificial data.

This paper presents a distributed algorithm for critical area detection in satellite imagery. The detection of critical area is very important in natural disaster detection and control. The algorithm uses the distributed change detection methods for multiple spectral bands in satellite images and combines changes which have appeared during a period of time. The result shows a critical area for analyzed time interval. The algorithm is distributed for support a large amount of data. The distributed approach shows a decrease in processing time with the increase of the number of workers. The presented algorithm represents a component from MedioGRID system, which implemented a real-time satellite image processing system for extracting relevant environmental and meteorological parameters on Grid systems. The critical area detection application will be integrated in Grid environments.

A fast and effective fade detection algorithm is proposed in this paper, which directly operates in compressed domain and suitable for real-time implementation. By analyzing the prediction directions of B frames, which are revealed in the macroblock types, the candidate fades can be found. Then, uncommon intracoded macroblocks of the P frame can be applied as an indicator of fade. As a result, locating fades are operated by a sliding window. Extensive experiments illustrate that the proposed algorithm achieves superiority measured by recall and precision rates, providing a useful technique for fast and on-line video content processing.

In this study, we first collected ECG data at 32 ksps and 500 sps from 51 patients with an implanted cardiac pacemaker. We also included 16 non paced ECGs with severe motion artifact and static interference. We then annotated the pacer pulses (locations and classifications) using special viewing software and divided the data into training and testing sets. We developed three digital pacemaker stimulus detection algorithms, one for each of three different sampling rates (500 sps, 8 ksps, and 32 ksps) by using similar detection concepts. After tuning them on the training sets at the corresponding sampling rates, we investigated their performances. Results showed that the detection algorithm based on the 12-lead 500-sps data stream has a good performance (sensitivity or Se=77.51%; positive productive value, or +P=90.32%). The 8-ksps detector has a better performance (Se=95.37; +P=99.77). The digital pacemaker detection algorithm for 32 ksps or higher data provided almost 100% true pacer spike detection (Se=99.51 and +P=100%). In summary, high speed sampling at 32 ksps can provide accurate detection of modern pacers and leads to a significant improvement in detection of pacemaker stimuli compared to the reduced sampling rates used previously.

In this paper we present an innovative approach to improve the performance of beat detection in the presence of a significant level of noise on some ECG leads in a setting of multi-lead acquisition. The idea is to run simultaneously two detectors (ldquoprincipalrdquo and ldquosparerdquo) and to dynamically switch between them according to the level of noise on the leads used by the detectors. First, default independent leads are assigned to the detectors; then, a bootstrap phase is necessary during which average QRS amplitudes are established for all leads. Based on the independence of the leads and the QRS amplitudes best leads are automatically computed and assigned to the detectors. After the bootstrap phase, the algorithm calculates the noise level of the leads used by both detectors every 500 ms and switches to the spare detector if the noise in the principal detector leads exceeds a threshold (T). The performance of the algorithm was tested on a database created for the purpose; the database contains 101 1-hour 12-lead Holter records selected from 24-hour recordings with a commercial analysis system on the basis of the amount of artifact. The performance of the algorithm was tested for various values of T and noise observation windows. A QRS sensitivity of 99.7 %, a QRS positive predictive value of 99.3 %, a ventricular sensitivity of 91.0 % and a ventricular positive predictive value of 55.3 % have been achieved.
