The paper studies the signal detection problem of the smart antennas-MIMO (SA-MIMO) system, which combines MIMO and smart antennas by replacing each antenna of MIMO with a smart antenna array under single-user scenario. First, the system model and related detection algorithms are briefly introduced. Then the paper presents a suboptimal detection theme. The detection theme contains two steps, one is determination of beam-forming vectors by maximum diagonal element (MDE) rule that can reduce the channel correlation among the MIMO channel links, and the other combines ordering successive interference cancellation (OSIC) based the posteriori signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) with the minimum mean square error (MMSE) for achieving further gain. Some numerical results show that the proposed method is viable.

The inherent wealth of information associated with hyperspectral data provides a data stream that could be leveraged for situational awareness or providing immediate user feedback. However, the enormous amount of data that is produced by some system's data stream requires longer processing times and often post-processing techniques. Therefore, it is prudent to develop real-time hyperspectral processing techniques that are capable of operating at maneuver speeds. Anomaly detection techniques applied to higher order statistics of the hyperspectral data can provide immediate user feedback for awareness. Determining capabilities prior to applying directly to a system is also informative and provides an in silico point of reference. In this paper, we show, through the use of a real-time simulator (RTS) in the MATLAB environment, a method for simulating the processing speed of a data stream based on how data is received from the instrument. In this work, the RTS provides sub 100ms capabilities based on non-optimized code within the MATLAB environment and is largely limited by the write speed in MATLAB. Utilizing virtual memory and the flexibility of MATLAB allows for simulating real-time capabilities of already obtained hyperspectral data prior to implementing it on a device. Additionally, applying the algorithm to a simulated ground truth data provides a theoretical limit of anomaly detection (LOAD). We further compare theoretical LOADs with actual anomaly detection capabilities in a laboratory environment.

Nowadays, ocean observatory networks, which gather and provide multidisciplinary, long-term, 3D continuous marine observations at multiple temporal spatial scales, play a more and more important role in ocean investigations. In this paper, we first perform image enhancement to produce depth information and benefit many vision algorithms and advanced image editing. We try to develop a novel underwater fish detection and tracking strategies combining you only look once(YOLO) latest detection algorithm YOLOv3 algorithm and parallel Correlation Filter. We demonstrated on the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 for online fish detection and tracking, enabling a fast system and rapid experimentation. It has been shown in the experiments that the developed scheme of this paper achieves consistent performance improvements on online fish detection and tracking for ocean observatory network.

Over the course of the last few years, several readout techniques for fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors have been proposed(1). However, all of them suffer from specific restrictions concerning response speed, accuracy, sensor multiplexibility and cost. In the past, it was often assumed that diffraction grating spectrometers were suitable only for FBG applications with modest resolution. The achievable pixel resolution is nowadays in the range of several tens of pm. For FBG sensors with typical temperature coefficients of 5 pm/K and strain coefficients of 0.7 pm/muepsilon this resolution is not sufficient for the majority of applications. We present a discussion on different methods for the subpixel registration of FBG spectra and we introduce a novel detection algorithm: the linear phase operator technique (LPO). Even under extreme noisy conditions LPO ensures a significant resolution enhancement by a factor of three compared to conventional algorithms and is shown to be very efficient in its implementation. The efficiencies of several conventional algorithms and LPO is compared by simulations and by means of a test bench. With slight efforts LPO is adaptable to further applications like spectrometer based Fabry-Perot sensors and other sensors with CCD detectors.

We introduce a novel method for automatic detection of Atrial Fibrillation (AF) using time-varying coherence functions (TVCF) and Shannon Entropy (SE). The TVCF is estimated by the multiplication of two time-varying transfer functions (TVTFs). Two TVTFs are obtained using two adjacent data segments with one data segment as the input signal and the other data segment as the output to produce the first TVTF;the second TVTF is produced by reversing the input and output signals. The detection algorithm was tested on RR interval time series derived from two databases: the MIT-BIH Atrial Fibrillation (AF) and the MIT-BIH normal sinus rhythm (NSR). The MIT-BIH database contains a variety of short and long AF beats from 25 subjects and the MIT-BIH NSR database consists of only normal sinus rhythms from 18 subjects. Using the receiver operating characteristic curves from the combination of TVCF and SE, we obtained the accuracy of 97.49%, sensitivity of 97.41% and specificity of 97.54% for the MIT-BIH AF database. Furthermore, the specificity of the MIT-BIH NSR database was 100%.

In this paper, we propose a novel non-contact method for monitoring vital signs, with a focus on heartbeat estimation using radar signals. Our approach utilizes a cross-correlation method based on a template function to isolate cardiac information from phase-extracted radar signals recorded during breathing. By accurately identifying heartbeat peaks over time, our method demonstrates the potential of radar technology for real-time vital sign monitoring in healthcare applications. Experiments conducted with a 24 GHz FMCW radar system, compared with synchronized ECG data, highlight the efficiency of our approach. Beyond showcasing non-contact cardiac monitoring, our method also sheds light on respiratory arrhythmia, providing valuable insights into the complex dynamics of cardiac and respiratory patterns.

New adaptive asymptotically robust invariant (AARI) detection algorithm is proposed. The algorithm is used for the detection of signals with some unknown parameters observed in additive noise with unknown distribution. It is based on asymptotically robust invariant (ARD algorithms previously developed by the authors. The extended model of approximately finite probability distributions (q-point model) is employed for detection algorithm synthesis. Adaptation is achieved by estimating and optimizing the algorithm for the actually unknown parameters of the q-point model. It is demonstrated that, for the case of heavy-tailed noise distributions in DSCDMA systems, the AARI detector based on the extended q-point model outperforms significantly the correlating detector. The main advantage of the proposed algorithm is its feature of self-adjustment to unknown signal parameters and noise distribution.

Wild flame detection from monocular video is an important step for monitoring of fire disaster. Flame region is complex and keeps varying, thus difficult to be tracked automatically. A weight adaptive particle filter algorithm is proposed in this paper to obtain flame detection with higher accuracy. The particle filter method considers color feature model, edge feature model, and texture feature model and then fuses them into a multi-feature model. During which related adaptive weighting parameters are defined and used for the features. For each particle corresponding to target region being tracked, the proportion of fire pixels in the area is computed with Gaussian mixture model, and then it is used as an additional adaptive parameter for the related particle. The presented algorithm has been tested with real video clips, and experimental results have proved the efficiency of the novel detection method.

This paper presents an automated visual inspection system for the detection of foreign fibers in lint The system mainly includes six parts, namely Input Conveyer, Lint Layer Generator, Output Roller, Image Acquisition System, Host Computer and Lint Layer Collector. The lint for inspection is fed into the Lint layer Generator through the Input Conveyer, and then made into uniform thin layer The generated lint layer are dragged out of the Generator and transferred to the inspection box where two cameras are served for imaging Live images of lint with foreign fibers are captured by the Image Acquisition System and then processed in the Host Computer using inspection algorithm designed for detection of foreign fibers. The inspection algorithm contains four main steps, namely, image enhancement, segmentation, post-processing and decision-making. Dozens of carefully selected foreign fiber samples were used to test the performance of the automated visual inspection system. The results indicate that the proposed system can defect out most of the foreign fibers mixed in lint correctly.

The monitoring of voltage sags is a crucial prerequisite for mitigating their harmful effects. With the energy transition in power systems and the integration of a large number of distributed generations, multi-stage voltage sags (MSVS) are becoming increasingly common, causing more severe and profound impacts on the grid and users. Currently, there is a lack of effective description and detection methods for MSVS, posing challenges to their statistics, management, and prevention. Due to the varying residual voltages and multiple transition moments of MSVS, traditional methods struggle to effectively detect them. To address these difficulties, this study proposed a novel detection method based on residual analysis, tailored for the special characteristics of MSVS. First, relevant terms for MSVS were introduced, providing a foundation for the monitoring and management of MSVS. Secondly, a detection algorithm based on residual analysis is proposed, achieving accurate identification of MSVS and precise detection of their mutation moments. The effectiveness and accuracy were validated with data from a 10kV distribution network. The proposed method lays the foundation for improving the power quality of the existing energy transition system.
