Fingerprint recognition is a method of biometric authentication that uses pattern recognition techniques [1] based on high-resolution fingerprints images of the individual. Fingerprints have been used in forensic as well as commercial applications for identification as well as verification. The fingerprint surface is made up of a system of ridges and valleys. The steps for Fingerprint recognition include image acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction and matching [2]. In the present work, a new fingerprint feature detection algorithm has been proposed. It has been found that presence of noise in fingerprint images leads to spurious minutiae. To overcome this problem, feature extraction has been done which efficiently determine the minutiae points in fingerprint [1]. The proposed method can be used in matching the template for finding bifurcation and termination. The new smoothing algorithm is proposed for the detection of the features of fingerprints. A method has been introduced for finding ridges in the fingerprint image with the help of eight different masks. It is a process of making a binary image of ridges from the grayscale fingerprint image. The experimental results showed the accuracy of the algorithm in terms of genuine acceptance rate, false rejection rate, false acceptance rate.

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) applications are typically event-driven. While the source codes of these applications may look simple, they are executed with a complicated concurrency model, which frequently introduces software bugs, in particular, transient bugs. Such buggy logics may only be triggered by some occasionally interleaved events that bear implicit dependency, but can lead to fatal system failures. Unfortunately, these deeply-hidden bugs or even their symptoms can hardly be identified by state-of-the-art debugging tools, and manual identification from massive running traces can be prohibitively expensive. In this paper, we present Sentomist (Sensor application anatomist), a novel tool for identifying potential transient bugs in WSN applications. The Sentomist design is based on a key observation that transient bugs make the behaviors of a WSN system deviate from the normal, and thus outliers (i.e., abnormal behaviors) are good indicators of potential bugs. Sentomist introduces the notion of event-handling interval to systematically anatomize the long-term execution history of an event-driven WSN system into groups of intervals. It then applies a customized outlier detection algorithm to quickly identify and rank abnormal intervals. This dramatically reduces the human efforts of inspection (otherwise, we have to manually check tremendous data samples, typically with brute-force inspection) and thus greatly speeds up debugging. We have implemented Sentomist based on the concurrency model of TinyOS. We apply Sentomist to test a series of representative real-life WSN applications that contain transient bugs. These bugs, though caused by complicated interactions that can hardly be predicted during the programming stage, are successfully confined by Sentomist.

This paper introduces an intelligent high-frame-rate video logging system that can automatically detect high-speed unpredictable behavior and record video comprising images with dimensions of 512 × 512 pixels at 1000 fps. To capture high-frame-rate video of crucial moments of abnormal behavior in high-speed periodic motion, a real-time abnormal behavior detection algorithm is implemented on a highspeed vision platform, IDP Express, which can record both input images and processed results at 1000 fps for video logging. Several experiments were performed using a machine with repetitive operation at a frequency of 15 Hz and video of the abnormal behavior was automatically recorded to verify the effectiveness of our system.

Hardware testbeds are an essential tool to evaluate the performance of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems in a realistic environment. However, most of the existing MIMO transmission testbeds have been conducted under less than or equal to four antennas. An 8×8 field programmable gate arrays (FGPA)-based MIMO-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) real-time transmission testbed has been developed by the DOCOMO Beijing Labs (DBL) in a typical indoor environment. Our objective is twofold: 1) to validate the functionality of MIMO and OFDM technologies; 2) meanwhile, to verify our receiver detection algorithm, orthogonal grouping-based near optimal detection algorithm (OGNO), proposed for high order MIMO systems. This paper presents a description of the testbed, detailing the testbed architecture, algorithms interest and hardware components. Moreover, we also present measurement results and show the impact of spatial correlation on system performance.

Human-machine interaction (HMI) relies on pattern recognition algorithms that are not perfect. To improve the performance and usability of these systems we can utilize the neural mechanisms in the human brain dealing with error awareness. This study aims at designing a practical error detection algorithm using electroencephalogram signals that can be integrated in an HMI system. Thus, real-time operation, customization, and operation convenience are important. We address these requirements in an experimental framework simulating machine errors. Our results confirm the presence of brain potentials related to processing of machine errors. These are used to implement an error detection algorithm emphasizing the differences in error processing on a per subject basis. The proposed algorithm uses the individual best bipolar combination of electrode sites and requires short calibration. The single-trial error detection performance on six subjects, characterized by the area under the ROC curve ranges from 0.75 to 0.98.

This paper proposes an embedded surveillance system for real-time anomaly intrusion detection based on temporal difference algorithm and theft items detection based on accumulated background subtraction algorithm. This design of modified vision algorithm fully utilize the advanced parallelism of Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) and this hardware implementation realizes time-consumed difference computing with on-chip FIFO and RAM memory. Finally, we fuse these two anomaly detection algorithms in one FPGA and select the algorithm type by user needs. As a result, the detecting validity and robustness of this implementation have been demonstrated through real-time surveillance videos.

Compared with FFT (Fast Fourier Transform), only addition and subtraction operations are involved in FMT (Fast M-sequence Transform). In this paper, three classes of fast correlation algorithms for Gold large sets of Kasami sequences are proposed, where FMT is used for fast computation instead of FFT. Analytic results show that computational complexity can be greatly reduced by V-FMT Class and U-FMT Class algorithms. These proposed correlation algorithms with possible applications in low spectral density wireless communications such as the DS/CDMA system.

In this article we propose an improved contour extraction approach for images acquired with a Time of Flight camera (ToF), by combining the information from the edges of the distance and luminance images. We define and use vicinity logic operations in order to extract a better contour that allows us to emphasize the objects of interest in the scene, and in the same time to eliminate the unuseful information, i.e. the “false” contours determined by noise, various textures, shadows etc. We present our results and draw the conclusions.

This paper presents a simulation study that evaluated one optimal and several near-optimal algorithms for detecting 16-QAM and 64-QAM symbols in single-user MIMO receivers. The study is part of a larger project to develop efficient and near-optimal MIMO detection algorithms for high-order symbol constellations. Fouladi Fard's near-optimal detection algorithm differs from the conventional V-BLAST algorithm by considering each possible value of the noisiest symbol in the current symbol vector, and then performing V-BLAST in parallel for each candidate to detect the remaining symbols. We investigated modifications of Fouladi Fard's algorithm that restrict the search space for the first (noisiest) symbol, thereby reducing the computational complexity while still producing performance that significantly exceeds that of V-BLAST.

Searching for fast and efficient algorithm to perform collision detection between static and moving objects is always fundamental problems in virtual environment. Most of previous method seems trying to tackle the problems of involving specific geometric models colliding pairs with restricted rules and guidelines. For example, convex hull bounding-volume tends to solve the collision detection problems by make the collision more accurate. However, its limitation of performing fast collision detection method must be left behind. In this paper, we introduce new traversal scheme using depth first search algorithm called earlier node detection algorithm. This algorithm automatically performs simultaneously for child nodes intersection compared to root intersection test. Result shows that our algorithm works perfectly for rigid models when performing collision detection. In practice, the new traversal algorithms helps improve the situation of determine two or more collision between rigid models especially in urban simulation.
