Improved layered MIMO detection algorithm with near-optimal performance

A new layered symbol detection algorithm for multiple-input multiple-output systems is presented. In this scheme, the layers are divided into two groups and detected differently. For the layer with the smallest post-detection signal-to-noise ratio, an exhaustive search is performed over the signal constellation;for the remaining layers the conventional iterative vertical Bell laboratories layered space-time (V-BLAST) technique is utilised. The proposed algorithm also uses a different symbol detection ordering from that recommended in the original V-BLAST algorithm. Simulation results show that the error rate performance of the proposed detection algorithm approaches closely that of an optimal maximum likelihood detector with no reduction in the symbol detection throughput, while the computational complexity is less than vertical bar Q vertical bar times that of V-BLAST, where vertical bar Q vertical bar is the cardinality of signal constellation Q.

This paper proposes an improved detection algorithm for spread spectrum watermark through the realization of an efficient group combined interference cancellation (GCIC) technique. First, each watermark bit is spread over N-mutually distinct points of the cover signal and the decision variable at the decoder is formed from the weighted average of N-decision statistics. Attack channel is modeled as Rayleigh distribution followed by AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise). Diversity technique is then applied to form the resultant watermarked image from the weighted average of multiple copies in order to improve detection performance where WSIR (watermark signal to interference ratio) is used as weight factor to achieve low BER (bit error rate). Genetic algorithms (GA) is used to partition embedded bits into multiple groups, namely very strong, strong, weak and very weak based on the normalized magnitudes of their decision variables. Performance of the GA based multiple group combined interference cancellation (MGCIC) for four, three and two groups with conventional interference cancellation (IC) are then reported. A significant improvement in detection performance and capacity is seen with GA based group combined interference cancellation (GCIC) relative to conventional interference cancellation (IC) at the cost of slight increase in computation complexity. Simulation results show that bit error rate (BER) for watermark decoding is reduced as the embedded bits are divided into more number of groups and optimal partitioning of these groups are made through the use of GA.

Arrhythmia detection in Single- and Dual-Chamber Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators: The More Leads, the Better?

The implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) offers life-saving therapies for primary and secondary prevention of sudden cardiac death in high-risk patients. However, ICD detection algorithms consistently misclassify a substantial proportion of supraventricular rhythms, thus carrying the risk for inappropriate therapies. Although single-chamber ICD (Sc-ICD) discrimination tools have been reported to provide high specificity in rejecting sinus tachycardia and atrial fibrillation with a relatively low ventricular rate, accurate recognition of atrial fibrillation with faster ventricular rates, atrial tachycardias, atrial flutter, and some reentrant tachycardias is still an issue. Dual-chamber ICDs (Dc-ICDs) are supposed to overcome specificity issues by enhancing detection algorithms with information derived from the atrial and ventricular timing relationship. The initial promise of Dc-ICDs was to improve detection specificity without compromising sensitivity, and to translate this advantage over Sc-ICDs in a more selective use of aggressive therapies. Despite this solid background, superiority of Dc- over Sc-ICDs has never been convincingly demonstrated. The present review focuses on the efficacy of contemporary ICD arrhythmia discrimination tools and appraises the so far reported evidence supporting the superiority of Dc-ICDs in preventing inappropriate therapies. In this paper we propose two adaptive detection algorithms for sparse targets embedded in heterogeneous AR Gaussian noise. The first one solves the problem of estimating the subset of cells containing a scatterer via the GLRT principle, while the latter models the number of scatterers as a random parameter and relies on the use of quantized statistics. A preliminary performance assessment, conducted by Monte Carlo simulation, has shown that both solutions allow to reduce the detrimental effects, in terms of collapsing loss, suffered by conventional solutions. In particular the former algorithm is to be preferred in terms of performance while the latter has a lower computational complexity.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer facilitated with digital mammography can increase survival rate and chances for patient's complete recovery. Bilateral asymmetry is one the breast abnormalities that may indicate breast cancer in early stage of its development. Researchers have been investigating and developing image processing algorithms that may help radiologists in giving accurate diagnosis. Most detection algorithms indicate suspicious regions that may need a better observation. This paper presents a survey of algorithms that have been developed for bilateral asymmetry detection. An overview of algorithms for alignment of the left and right breast is given and methods for comparison of the left and right breast are presented.

In this paper, the basic process of random access is briefly introduced first, a frequency-domain detection algorithms Suitable for criterion is proposed based on the structural characteristics of LTE TDD PRACH format4, PRACH signal launch model and key features of Zadoff-Chu sequence. Under the program in the detection of user testing, uplink synchronization estimate and analysis of the coverage area, the simulation results and conclusions are drawn finally. The simulation results show that the algorithm is low computational complexity, and can be carried out at the same time for multi-user detection and synchronization estimate compared to traditional time-domain matching method.

This paper proposes a comprehensive new neural spike detection and sorting system. As a critical first step to all neuroscientific studies of the nervous system using chronically implanted electrodes in the brain areas of interest, high performance neural spike detection and sorting from the massive amount of continuously recorded neural data is a challenging task, especially in real time applications such as brain machine interface. Many existing spike detection and sorting systems use simple thresholding as the first step to admit a large number of possible spikes for further sorting using various clustering algorithms. Significant efforts have gone into developing sophisticated sorting algorithms, many of which are time consuming in applications. In this paper, we develop a new system that is based on a reliable detection algorithm using multiple correlations of wavelet coefficients, which is robust and can be implemented in real time. Because of the advanced detection step, the system becomes less demanding on the performance of the sorting or clustering algorithms. This has simplified the overall system, and made real time interface and other real time applications possible. We tested the newly proposed system extensively, compared with several popular systems including commercial packages. While most thresholding based detection systems usually create a large number of false alarms, test results show that our proposed system on both artificial and real neural data have produced few false alarms but with high detection rates.

Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) has become an important development framework for many large-scale software. Previous research has reported that as in traditional code-based development, cloning also occurs in MDE. However there has been little work on clone detection in models with the limitations on detection precision and completeness. This paper presents ModelCD, a novel clone detection tool for Matlab/Simulink models, that is able to efficiently and accurately detect both exactly matched and approximate model clones. The core of ModelCD is two novel graph-based clone detection algorithms that are able to systematically and incrementally discover clones with a high degree of completeness, accuracy, and scalability. We have conducted an empirical evaluation with various experimental studies on many real-world systems to demonstrate the usefulness of our approach and to compare the performance of ModelCD with existing tools.

The area of clone detection has considerably evolved over the last decade, leading to approaches with better results, but at the same time using more elaborate algorithms and tool chains. In our opinion a level has been reached, where the initial investment required to setting a clone detection tool chain and the code infrastructure required for experimenting with new heuristics and algorithms seriously hampers the exploration of novel solutions or specific case studies. As a solution, this paper presents CloneDetective, an open source framework and tool chain for clone detection, which is especially geared towards configurability and extendability and thus supports the preparation and conduction of clone detection research.

We present an effective static deadlock detection algorithm Java. Our algorithm uses a novel combination of static analyses each of which approximates a different necessary condition for a deadlock. We have implemented the algorithm and report upon our experience applying it to a suite of multi-threaded Java programs. While neither sound nor complete, our approach is effective in practice, finding all known deadlocks as well as discovering previously unknown ones in our benchmarks with few false alarms.
