Object detection by visual sensors is a critical component of surveillance systems and has many challenging issues. This paper addresses enhancement of object detection with multiple visual sensors. The detection enhancement we introduce is to recover missed object detection given partially detected objects among multiple visual sensors. Once an object is detected by one or more visual sensors, the detected local object positions are transformed into a global object position. Based on a local and global collaboration, any missed local object position is recovered by the global to local transformation. However, the collaboration may degrade the detection performance by incorrectly recovering the local object position, which is propagated from false object detection. Furthermore, local object positions corresponding to an identical object are transformed into in equivalent global object positions due to detection uncertainty such as a shadow. In this paper, we minimize the performance degradation by preventing from the propagation of the false object detection. In addition, we present an evaluation method for a final global object position. Finally, the proposed method is analyzed and evaluated with case studies.

A robust method of fall and motionless detection is presented. The approach is able to detect falls and motionless periods (standing, sitting, and lying) using only one belt-worn kinematic sensor. The fall detection algorithm analyses the phase changes of vertical acceleration in relation to gravity and impact force using kinematic variables. A phase angle value was used as a threshold to distinguish between falls and normal motion activity. There are two advantages with this approach in comparison with existing approaches: (1) it is computationally efficient and theoretic (2) it is based on a single threshold value which was determined from a kinematic analysis for the falling processes. To evaluate the system, ten subjects were studied each of which performed different types of falls and motionless activities during a period of monitoring activity. These included: normal walking, standing, sitting, lying, a front bend of 90 degrees, tilt over 70 degrees and four kinds of falls (forward, backward, tilt left and right). The results show that 100% of heavy falling, 97% of all falls and 100% of motionless activity were correctly detected in a laboratory environment and the beginning and ends of these events were determined.

Initial downlink synchronization for orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) network access involves timing and frequency synchronization. The frequency offset is produced by oscillator drifts and time-varying Doppler shifts. In mobile WiMAX 802.16e carrier frequency offset (CFO) can be divided into: integral carrier frequency offset (ICFO) and fractional carrier frequency offset (FCFO). There are mainly three methods for CFO estimation: data-aided method, blind and semi-blind. This paper is based on the semi-blind method presented in ldquoJoint detection of integral carrier frequency offset and preamble index in OFDMA WiMAX downlink synchronizationrdquo, IEEE, 2007, see [2]. We simplify the algorithm presented in that paper by (a) using an adder-subtractor instead of using squares to estimate power and (b) by using a XNOR instead of complex multiplier; thereby reducing hardware gates by a factor of 676. Simulation results show only a slight degradation in performance with a considerable reduction in complexity.

In this paper, we address the problem of unsupervised detection of anomalies in hyperspectral images. Our proposed method is based on a novel statistical background modeling approach that combines local and global approaches. The local-global background model has the ability to adapt to all nuances of the background process like local approaches but avoids over-fitting due to a too high number of degrees of freedom, which produces a high false alarm rate. This is done by constraining the local background models to be interrelated. The results strongly prove the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. We experimentally show that our local-global algorithm performs better than several other global or local anomaly detection techniques, such as the well known RX or its Gaussian Mixture version (GMRX).

In previous research works, the causality generally refers to the existence of causality in mathematics and physics. In recent years, detection and clarification of cause-effect relationships, causality detection, among texts, events or objects has been elevated to a prominent research topic of natural and social sciences over the human knowledge development history. This paper demonstrates a causality detection algorithm (AM-CDA) inspired with cognitive associative memory. In the task of causality detection, AM-CDA implements a simple recurrent neural network (SRNN) to simulate human associative memory, which has the ability to associate different types of inputs when processing text information. The detection objects are simple sentences and clauses, which are treated as events in microstructure. AM-CDA has been fully examined in elaborately designed experimental tasks. The experimental results have testified the capability of AM-CDA in causality detection, and also indicate that further research works can improve the performance in standard evaluation measures.

In this paper, the detection of close targets in heterogeneous clutter in high-resolution SAR images is investigated. We adopt a probability distribution mixture model where each pixel intensity image is characterised by two probability density functions: one related to the targets and one related to the background clutter. A specific detection threshold, based on the estimates of the mixture parameters, is used. The statistical characterisation of SAR images modeling is a key issue for detection. The clutter is modelled using the K distribution that is a flexible tool over non-homogenous areas. We show that our method is able to detect close targets at constant false alarm ratio without making any assumptions about their size and their spatial configuration.

Most ECG diagnosis techniques require an accurate detection of the R-wave, so R-wave detection is important in ECG signal analysis. This paper presents a new real-time R-wave detection algorithm combining adaptive Shifting Window Difference Threshold (SWDT) and Forward-Backward Difference Threshold (FBDT). The algorithm can eliminate or weaken the impact of the high P-wave, high T-wave and other high-frequency interference signals onto the detection of R-wave. It can solve the problem of heavily loaded computation caused by the complicated algorithm of the traditional theory, and has been implemented on a Portable Single-lead ECG Monitor (PSEM) developed by authors. Finally, the algorithm was simulated by the American MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database with an average detection error rate (DER) 0.2%. Some real data was also collected by our PSEM from several patients. Experimental results indicated that the proposed algorithm was simple, effective, robust, accurate and suitable for application in the embedded system.

Most anomaly detection methods can not be fit for the changing and complex network. High noise and updating normality profiles not in time will lead to high false alarm rate. In this paper, a new anomaly detection algorithm using improved hierarchy clustering, called ADIHC, is proposed in this paper. It applies an improved hierarchy clustering tree to organize clusters which are obtained by density-based partitioning method. We extend the clustering algorithm and apply branch and bound method for filtering noise. With the help of two advantages: filtering noise and updating normality profiles at any time, our algorithm is suitable for the changing and complex network. A series of experimental results on well known KDD Cup 1999 dataset indicate that ADIHC has superior performance of detection and meets more real-time requirements of intrusion detection system.

Community detection in networks receives much attention recently. Most of the previous works are for unipartite networks composed of only one type of nodes. In real world situations, however, there are many bipartite networks composed of two types of nodes. In this paper, we propose a fast algorithm called LP&BRIM for community detection in large-scale bipartite networks. It is based on a joint strategy of two developed algorithms -- label propagation (LP), a very fast community detection algorithm, and BRIM, an algorithm for generating better community structure by recursively inducing divisions between the two types of nodes in bipartite networks. Through experiments, we demonstrate that this new algorithm successfully finds meaningful community structures in large-scale bipartite networks in reasonable time limit.

In modern society, power quality problem has become an important problem, which effects industrial production and product quality, etc. So, we need to monitor and analyze electric power parameter to assure electric power quality in prescribed limit. Aiming to disadvantages of present electric parameter detection of power harmonic, we design a kind of wireless power electric parameter detection system based on single chip microprocessor (SCM) technology, wireless communication technology, FFT, wavelet resolution analysis, and visual instrument (VI) technology, etc. System is composed of upper PC and lower PC. Lower PC uses transformer module, signal processor module to realize electric power signal conversion, which can be recognized by MSP430F149. Lower PC controls nRF905 wireless transceiver module to realize signal transmitting between lower PC and upper PC installing of VI software of LabVIEW. System software combines FFT and wavelet analysis method to realize electric power parameter of harmonic analysis, which solves shortcoming of single FFT analysis. Through simulation experiment, method of combining FFT with wavelet transform is verified to be accurate.
