This paper proposes several new approaches (NLMS-ZF weighting, NLMS-ZF iterations, NLMS-ZF joint, and Kalman data detection methods) to compare with the existing normalized least mean square (NLMS) data detection method for the multiple input multiple output (MIMO) high speed data packet access (HSDPA) enabled wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) system. The NLMS data detection method has the lowest and Kalman (in general) the highest complexity of the methods. It is found that the Kalman method has the best performance and that the NLMS-ZF methods have some improvement over the NLMS data detection method for fast-varying channels.

This paper presents a real-time tracking system to detect and track multiple moving objects on a controlled pan-tilt camera platform. In order to describe the relationship between the targets and camera in this tracking system, the input/output hidden Markov model (HMM) is applied here in the well-defined spherical camera coordinate. Since the detection and tracking for different targets are performed at the same time on a moving camera platform, the detection and tracking processes must be fast and effective. A hybrid detection algorithm which combines the target's color and optical flow information is proposed here. A two layer tracking architecture is then utilized for tracking the detected target. The bottom level utilizes the Kanade-Lucas-Tomasi (KLT) feature point tracker which identifies the local point correspondence across image frames. The particle filter at top level, which maintains the relation between target and feature points, estimates the tracked target state. The overall performance has been validated in the experiments.

More analysis has been done to discover the meaningful unusual patterns which may mean fraud or anomaly. In this paper, a novel unsupervised approach for discovering meaningful unusual observations is proposed. We firstly apply an unsupervised version of Hyper Surface Classification (HSC) algorithm to gain the separating hyper surface. It needs no domain knowledge but can not discover the local unusual pattern. To solve this problem, we additionally search the Minimum Spanning Tree (MST). Given the domain knowledge, a process of subdividing is proposed to detect unusual pattern in each Minimum Spanning Tree. Experimental results show that our approach can detect unusual patterns effectively, even some of which are overlooked by using the traditional clustering and outlier detection algorithms.

In this paper we present a robust pedestrian detection algorithm in low resolution on-board monocular camera image sequences of cluttered scenes. At first a motion based object detection algorithm is developed to detect foreground objects by analyzing horizontal motion vector. A cascade structure of rejection type classifier is utilized for our pedestrian detection system. Initial stage of cascade, simple rule based classification techniques are used to separate pedestrian from obvious road side structural object and later part of the cascade, a more complex algorithm which is a combination of Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) based classification techniques are utilized to separate pedestrian from non-pedestrian objects. Finally, the image segments are tracked by our Spatio-Temporal Markov Random Field model (S-T MRF). Results show that our algorithms are promising for pedestrian detection in cluttered scenes.

Computer simulations are used to compare the results of correlating a simulated image of an asteroid with a point spread function while varying the atmospheric parameter. The images contain a point source object that is smeared due to the atmosphere. The point spread function is calculated using r 0 , since r 0 can be measured at the time of time of data collection. These results are evaluated against an uncorrelated threshold detection algorithm using the same data input. The resulting receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves show the effects of the different atmospheres on detection of different sized Near Earth Objects (NEOs) for both the correlation and threshold algorithm. These results are discussed and compared. Recommendations are made for applying these algorithms in the search for NEOs.

In this paper, we proposed a new packet detection algorithm with high performance and low hardware complexity for chirp-spread-spectrum (CSS) in AWGN channel. There are two typical conventional packet detection algorithms. First, the conventional algorithm based on mixed-correlation (CABMC) has a good performance by using matched filter to remove unused band noise, but the algorithm has a high hardware complexity. Second, the conventional algorithm based on auto-correlation (CABAC) has a simple hardware structure, but the algorithm does not guarantee a good performance because of additional noise in the CSS. The proposed algorithm detects packet by gathering energies after accomplishing differential multiplication between the outputs of adjacent matched filters which have rotated almost on the same phase. This algorithm reduced the number of registers and keep up high performance. Also, this algorithm can detect packet by using just one symbol while conventional algorithms need at least two symbols. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm detects packet in the higher SNR only about 0.25 dB as compared with the CABMC and reduces the number of registers about 83.70% as compared with the CABMC. And the proposed algorithm detects packet in the lower SNR about 3.52 dB as compared with the CABAC and reduces the number of registers about 59.25% as compared with the CABAC.

This paper presents a robust real-time rear-view camera based object detection algorithm for backup aid and parking assist applications. The system is capable of handling the challenges of stationary as well as moving objects in rear view of the host vehicle, utilizing a single car-mounted rear-view fish-eye camera. A motion-based and edge-based object detection algorithm was developed in order to detect near distance objects and distant objects respectively. Furthermore, a free-space detection algorithm was developed which is used to detect areas where no objects appeared in front of the vehicle path. A tracker-based fusion algorithm was used to track and fuse detection results of individual detection algorithms. Experiments have been carried out by applying the proposed algorithm on prerecorded sequences as well as within a test vehicle and thus in a closed loop environment. The experimental results indicate promising detection performance.

In intrusion detection data set is high dimensional, which leads to low processing speed for intrusion detection algorithms, but it holds many features affecting little for detection. To address the above issue, a two-step feature selection algorithm is proposed in this paper. Depending on the definition of relevant feature and redundant feature and using mutual information as criterion, it firstly eliminates the irrelevant features and then eliminates the redundant features. With low time complexity, the feature selection algorithm independent of detection algorithm could easily balance the detection accuracy and the number of features through threshold. Experiments over networks connection records from authoritative data set KDD CUP 1999 were implemented for several detection algorithms to evaluate the proposed method. The results show the algorithm could effectively select features, ensure detection accuracy and improve processing speed.

A haar-like features based eye detection algorithm is introduced and implemented on TI TMS320DM6446 platform in this paper. With fast searching speed and high detection rate, the algorithm is packed into codec and put on the DSP-side for remote call. Application on the ARM-side captures face images from camera and outputs detection results to computer monitor. Experimental results demonstrated that the implemented eye detection system on DM6446 can search and locate eyes effectively with little chip resources required.

Access control policy is a set of rules, which control and constraint the communication and access between all kinds of entities. Policy conflict is one of the outstanding issues related to policy management. Nevertheless current access control policy conflict detection algorithms are completely dependent on policy specification and the applications, which make these algorithms non-reusable and non-extensible. To resolve this problem, we separate the algorithm from concrete policy specification and apply a group of matrixes to define the relationship between all access control rules and all kinds of access control policy conflicts. Finally we develop an extensible intra-access control policy conflict detection algorithm that is independent of application domain to which the policies relate. The experimental result shows that the algorithm offers similar detection efficiency comparable to conventional detection algorithm.
