We present an efficient anomaly detection algorithm, named BANBAD. Using belief networks (BNs), the algorithm identifies abnormal behavior, like inappropriate energy consumption, in mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs). By applying structure learning techniques to training dataset, BANBAD extracts the dependencies among relevant features, such as average velocity, displacement, local computation and communication time, energy consumption, and response time, of a node of the network. A directed acyclic graph (DAG) is used to represent the features and their dependencies. Probability distributions and correlations among the features are associated with the nodes and edges of the DAG. Using a training process, BANBAD maintains dynamic, updated profiles of network node behaviors and uses specific Bayesian inference algorithm to distinguish abnormal behavior during testing. BANBAD works well in MANETs. Simulation results demonstrate that a centralized BANBAD achieves low false alarm rates, below 2%, and high detection rates, greater than 95%. The key to achieving such high performance is that the false alarm rate can be bounded by certain predefined threshold value based on our technique, and by fine tuning the threshold, we can achieve the high detection rate as well.

This paper proposes a plane detection algorithm from stereo camera depth data, using it to find the ground plane. The proposed algorithm ran at 30 frames per second and can successfully detect a ground plane. A simple PID wheelchair controller is implemented to correct for any heading adjustment if required based on ground plane geometries with respect to the wall.

Dim small targets detection in infrared image is one of the key techniques of infrared search and track system. In order to overcome the deficiencies of the detection algorithm based on gray-scale efficient targets detection method is proposed based on the directional discreteness. Firstly, targets are separately detected by two methods based on gray-scale characteristics and direction discreteness, and then merge the detection result to attain suspicious target set. Secondly, candidate targets are been accurate positioning according to the variance growth. Finally, the true targets are obtained according to the principle of moving continuity and trajectory consistency of moving targets in the image sequences. The experimental results indicate that the method can effectively detect the small and weak targets under complex backgrounds.

Digital mammography allows detection of breast abnormalities in early stage of breast cancer development. One of the abnormalities that may indicate breast cancer in its early stage is bilateral asymmetry. This paper presents computer-aided detection algorithm for bilateral asymmetry that uses B-spline interpolation for breast alignment. Alignment of the right and left breast is important step in computer-aided detection algorithm in order to allow comparison of corresponding points in right and left breast. Differential analysis of breasts is based on simple subtraction technique. The results are highlighted with color in each image and presented on a computer monitor thereby indicating radiologist the regions that need to have a second look and be further investigated. We found that our approach can be a very useful tool for radiologists in detection and diagnosis of bilateral asymmetry.

This paper analyses the causes that give rise to the risk of credit fraud and presents an anomaly detection method by using an outlier detection model based on similar coefficient sum. It finds fraud record by computing similar coefficient sum of every two objects and an example is given to validate the model. The result show the feasibility and validity of the method. The research work furnishes a basis for further study of applying outlier to the analysis and prediction of deception risks.

Deadlock is one of the most important problems in distributed and centralized systems. Many algorithms are introduced for the detection of deadlock; however some of them suffer from increasing the number of processes, while the others take long processing time. This paper studies the impact of deadlock detection on the overall performance of deadlock handling. Network performance largely relies on the accuracy of deadlock detection. This paper proposes a deadlock detection protocol based on threads, processes which are acquired, released or stopped and which thread wait for the other and causes the deadlock. Our algorithm makes the detection goes faster, reliable and schedules the threads in order to detect which thread would initiate the deadlock. Our algorithm simulation results forecasted the deadlock initiator.

This paper is concerned with the challenging and timely problem of joint channel estimation and data detection for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems in the presence of frequency selective and very rapidly time varying channels. The detection and estimation algorithm is based on the space alternating generalized expectation maximization (SAGE) technique which is particularly well-suited to multicarrier signal formats. In order to reduce the computational complexity of the algorithm, we apply the cosine orthogonal basis functions to describe the time-varying channel. It is shown that, depending on the normalized Doppler frequency, only a small number of expansion coefficients is sufficient to approximate the channel perfectly and there is no need to know the correlation function of the input signal. The proposed SAGE joint detection algorithm updates the data sequences in serial and the channel parameters are updated in parallel, leading to a receiver structure that also incorporates a partial interference cancellation of the interchannel interference. Computer simulations show that the cosine transformation represents the time-varying channel very effectively and the proposed algorithm has excellent symbol error rate and channel estimation performance even with a very small number of channel expansion coefficients employed in the algorithm, resulting in reduction of the computational complexity substantially.

In this work, we propose a random access protocol for decentralized detection in wireless sensor networks. In this scheme, sensors are grouped according to the informativeness of their data. Then fusion center collects sensor data sequentially in the order of their informativeness and terminates the fusion process once the target performance is reached. To determine the optimal transmission probability in random access, we propose a novel Bayesian update algorithm utilizing both the sensing information and the channel feedback. As shown by our simulations, incorporating sensing information greatly improves the communication efficiency over a generic Bayesian update scheme relying only on channel feedback. Comparison with fixed sample size test and sequential probability ratio test shows that the proposed scheme achieves significant channel and power efficiency gain over existing strategies.

Many organizations collect large amounts of data to support their business and decision making processes. The data collected from various sources may have data quality problems in it. These kinds of issues become prominent when various databases are integrated. The integrated databases inherit the data quality problems that were present in the source database. The data in the integrated systems need to be cleaned for proper decision making. Cleansing of data is one of the most crucial steps. In this research, focus is on one of the major issue of data cleansing i.e. ¿duplicate record detection¿ which arises when the data is collected from various sources. As a result of this research study, comparison among standard duplicate elimination algorithm (SDE), sorted neighborhood algorithm (SNA), duplicate elimination sorted neighborhood algorithm (DE-SNA), and adaptive duplicate detection algorithm (ADD) is provided. A prototype is also developed which shows that adaptive duplicate detection algorithm is the optimal solution for the problem of duplicate record detection. For approximate matching of data records, string matching algorithms (recursive algorithm with word base and recursive algorithm with character base) have been implemented and it is concluded that the results are much better with recursive algorithm with word base.

This study uses two low-cost and compact CMOS cameras to construct an asynchronous binocular system and proposes an effective real-time front-vehicle detection algorithm with the binocular system. The proposed vehicle detection algorithm uses the edge information to detect the region of each front vehicle, and then computes the disparities of the front vehicles by an adaptive search method. According to the disparity values, the relative distances between the front and the host vehicles can be computed. The proposed algorithm of the manuscript conquers the asynchronous exposure problem and cost issue of a binocular system. Experimental results show that the proposed system can robustly and accurately detect obstacles or other vehicles in real time under different illumination and road conditions.
