In this paper, we propose a new voice activity detection (VAD) algorithm to improve the speech detection robustness in nonstationary noisy environments. At front-end, Wiener filtering speech enhancement is adopted to suppress noise from noisy speech. Then, at back-end, the voice activity detector based on mel filter-bank spectral entropy is presented to distinguish speech from noise. We have evaluated system performance under noisy environments. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method is useful for achieving a considerable performance improvement for the VAD in nonstationary noise.

MMSE-DFE (minimum mean square error-decision feedback equalization) is a sliding-window decision feedback equalization method. This paper first applies MMSE-DFE into joint detection algorithm for TDD-CDMA (time division duplex-code division multiple access). It has the low complexity compared with MMSE-BDFE (minimum mean square error-block decision feedback equalization) based joint detection. MMSE-IC (minimum mean square error-interference cancellation) is an efficient detection algorithm in V-BLAST. To adopt the advantages of MMSE-IC, we introduce the interference cancellation into the MMSE-DFE based joint detection. By the aid of interference cancellation, the performance of the MMSE-DFE based joint detection is improved. The experiments show that the performance of the proposed joint detection algorithm has the better performance than the conventional MMSE-BDFE based joint detection.

To address the multiplicity and copyright issues on file sharing social networks, we propose a fast video copy detection algorithm using the suffix array data structure in this work. The proposed algorithm consists of two steps. In the first step, we extract robust features which are discriminative yet insensitive to various attacks. Specifically, we develop a compact one-dimensional signature based on the shot change position of video files. Unlike images and audio, the size of a video file is usually large, which makes it computationally expensive to match two long signature sequences. Thus, in the second step, we adopt an efficient matching technique based on the suffix array data structure. The proposed system can perform the sequence matching in linear time while the complexity of conventional duplicate video detection algorithms grows at least quadratically with the video length.

The main objective of this work is to perform an optimization methodology of the temporal parameters and operation thresholds (acceleration and energy) for the impact detection in an accelerometer smart sensor. The procedure is based on a sequential approach to values that improve the sensitivity and the specificity of the impact detection. It was fed in its execution with a set of experiments of different daily activities, with and without impact. The values of the parameters obtained from the optimization were tested with a different set of experiments achieving a 100% success (zero false positives and zero false negatives), confirming the robustness of the procedure.

In orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems operating over rapidly time-varying channels, the orthogonality between subcarriers is destroyed leading to inter-carrier interference (ICI) and resulting in an irreducible error floor. In this paper, a new and low-complexity maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) detection algorithm is proposed for OFDM systems operating over rapidly time-varying multipath channels. The detection algorithm exploits the banded structure of the frequency-domain channel matrix whose bandwidth is a parameter to be adjusted according to the speed of the mobile terminal. Based on this assumption, the received signal vector is decomposed into reduced dimensional sub-observations in such a way that all components of the observation vector contributing to the symbol to be detected are included in the decomposed observation model. The data symbols are then detected by the MAP algorithm by means of a Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique in an optimal and computationally efficient way. Computational complexity investigation as well as simulation results indicate that this algorithm has significant performance and complexity advantages over existing suboptimal detection and equalization algorithms proposed earlier in the literature.

We propose a new skew detection algorithm, which is based on the lowest pixels of a set of characters. The skew angle is evaluated by applying moment calculation, and the method to get characters in one text-line is described in detail. Document images of various languages, including English and Chinese, can be validly treated by this algorithm. Both the document images with large skew angle and the document images containing a few characters can be treated by this algorithm.

MIMO-OFDM is considered a key technology in emerging high-data rate systems. With MIMO techniques, the transmission quality deteriorates due to co-channel interference (CCI). Several signal detection schemes have been proposed to mitigate this problem. However, it is impractical to use the conventional methods without reducing theirs computational complexity. Previously, we have proposed a parallel detection algorithm using multiple QR decompositions with permuted channel matrix (MQRD-PCM) for MIMO-OFDM to reduce the system complexity. This method achieves a good BER performance with low system complexity. However, since MQRD-PCM is a kind of parallel detection method, the wrong detection probability is increased due to the bad channel SINR of the transmitted signals. As a result, the average BER performance is influenced by the wrong detection probability of the bad channel SINR. To overcome this problem, in this paper, we propose the channel ranking based joint symbols detection for MQRD- PCM/MIMO-OFDM.

Clustered microcalcifications (MCs) in mammograms can be an important early sign of breast cancer in women. Their accurate detection is an important problem in computer aided detection. To improve the performance of detection, we propose a bagging-based twin support vector machine (B-TWSVM) to detect MCs. The ground truth of MCs in mammograms is assumed to be known as a priori. First each MCs is preprocessed by using a simple artifact removal filter and a well designed high-pass filter. Then the combined image feature extractors are employed to extract 164 image features. In the combined image feature space, the MCs detection procedure is formulated as a supervised learning and classification problem, and the trained B-TWSVM is used as a classifier to make decision for the presence of MCs or not. A large number of experiments were carried out to evaluate and compare the performance of the proposed MCs detection algorithms. The results of this study indicate the potential of proposed approach for computer-aided detection of MCs.

In this paper statistical approach to synthesize algorithms for digital signal processing in UWB noise radar and sodar is used. Nonparametric copula based detection algorithms are suggested. Multiple input multiple output case is investigated. Monte-Carlo simulation for suggested algorithm is done. Experimental check is done on the basis of developed acoustic physical model which is used to build a noise sodar prototype. Developed algorithms can be used in noise radars for different applications. The use of the UWB noise signal provides a very high resolution both in speed and range.

To detect suspicious money laundering transaction in the real world financial applications, a new dissimilarity metric was proposed and a novel money laundering detection algorithm based on improved minimum spanning tree clustering was put forward in this paper. Suspicious money laundering transaction detection experiment on financial data set from the real world indicates that our algorithm is effective and succinct.
