The automatic video shot detection is receiving a great impact with the advances in the digital video technology and ever increasing accessibility of computing results. In this paper we describe a framework for extracting shot detection by using the threshold values of diverse statistical features for raw video frames. Two different types of sports videos viz. soccer and basketball are used for assessment. The approach exploits correlation, maximum histogram difference and running average difference as the classifiers. The results are evaluated by selection of appropriate threshold of these features after training of framework. The winner take-all selection scheme is applied if correlation coefficient and histogram difference features are unable to identify the shot detection. Experimental results on divergent set of test videos reveal the effectiveness of this shot detection approach.

In vitro networks of neurons typically exhibit bursting behavior. To help the experimenter in characterizing different preparations or identifying the changes possibly induced by specific protocols, we developed a new automated method for detecting both bursts and network bursts from electrophysiological activity recorded by means of micro-electrode arrays. The burst detection algorithm is based on the computation of the logarithmic inter-spike interval histogram to automatically detect the best threshold to distinguish between inter- and intra-burst spikes. We preliminary tested our new tools on spontaneous and chemically stimulated activity recordings from primary cultures of rat cortex neurons. Moreover, as a case study, we also applied our algorithms to recordings coming from embryonic primary cortical neurons of wild-type and SynI knockout mice. Our results show i) the flexibility and self-adapting properties of the proposed methods, by applying them to different kind of preparations; ii) their capability of revealing changes in the bursting activity due to different experimental conditions.

With the rapid dependency on the Internet for business, and the fast spread of powerful destructive DoS/DDoS attack tools, the detection and thwarting of these attacks is primordial for ISP, enterprises, hosting centers, etc. In this paper, we present the implementation of a new framework, for efficient detection and identification of flooding attacks over high speed links. To accomplish that, we apply multi-channel nonparametric CUSUM (MNP-CUSUM) over the shared counters in the proposed reversible sketch, in order to pinpoint flows with abrupt change via a new approach for sketch inversion. Shared counters are used to minimize the memory requirements and to identify the victim of flooding attacks. We apply our system at various real traces, some traces are provided by France Telecom (FT) within the framework of ANR-RNRT OSCAR project, other traces are collected in FT backbone network, during online experiments for testing and adjusting the proposed detection algorithms in this project. Our analysis results from real Internet traffic, and from online implementation over Endace DAG 3.6ET sniffing card, show that our proposed architecture is able to quickly detect various kinds of flooding attacks and to disclose culprit flows with a high level of accuracy.

Although neural networks and idiotypic networks are similar in functions, they are different in many aspects. This paper compares them in topological structures, initializing ways, learning methods, et al. Based on the comparison and combined with pattern recognition technology, this paper proposes a novel adaptive intrusion detection approach using idiotypic networks. Additionally, the approach is compared with detection approach using neural networks. Idiotypic networks' memory and learning abilities, especially their dynamic adjustable ability enable them superior to neural networks in the application for intrusion detection. This paper presents a new detection algorithm according to immune response principles and a new multimutation pattern idiotypic network model to implement the detection algorithm. By utilizing some immune principles, the proposed approach can overcome problems existing in detection approaches based on neural networks. Firstly, idiotypic networks can adjust automatically with presenting of antigens, making new features fused into networks continuously. Thus, this approach needs not to be updated periodically. Secondly, the trained network model can still be changed to learn new features of attacks, so the performance of detecting unknown attacks is improved. Thirdly, clone expansion of antibodies is suppressed by idiotypic effects, thus false positive rate is decreased. Experiments are carried out on Fisher Iris dataset and KDD-CUP-99 database to verify the performance of this adaptive detection approach. Compared with the detection approach based on a multilayer perception network, the false positive rate is decreased and the detection accuracy of unknown attacks is increased.

This paper presents a new approach to the soft detection of spatial data streams in MIMO channels in slow fading channels. We focus on high spectral efficiency bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) MIMO OFDM system where, after serial to parallel conversion and per antenna coding, spatial data streams are simultaneously transmitted by using an antenna array. We propose a detection algorithm basing on the combination of linear and non linear detection techniques. The proposed algorithm orders the spatial streams as per V-BLAST ordering and then uses linear detectors as MMSE or zero forcing (ZF) to detect the streams which have seen good channel realizations and therefore enjoy higher signal-to-noise-ratios (SNRs). These streams after being detected are subsequently stripped off leading to the max log MAP detection of the streams which have seen comparatively poor realizations of the channel and consequently have lower SNRs. Unlike maximum likelihood (ML) detection, whose complexity is huge due to the need for enumerating all possible combinations of the transmitted constellation points, the proposed method has low complexity. The algorithm has a fully parallel structure, suitable for the implementation in parallel hardware. Numerical examples illustrate its performance on slow fading 3 times 3 and 4 times 4 complex MIMO channels.

Outlier detection is a hot topic of data mining. After studying the existing classical algorithm of detecting outliers, this paper proposes a new algorithm for outlier detection based on offset, and makes a new definition for outlier. This detection algorithm is a method based on clustering analysis. It includes cluster modeling and data detection. Also, the clustering result obtained together with detecting outliers. The experiment results on IRIS show that this algorithm can detect outliers effectively.

Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antennas and Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA) are very promising candidates for simultaneous utilize in 4G systems, since they attain robustness, high spectral efficiency, and high data rates in rich scattering environments. This paper proposes an efficient hybrid detection algorithm for downlink MC-CDMA system based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). The proposed algorithm combines Energy Spreading Transform (EST) technique and the iterative architecture pilot based Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) channel estimation as well as Modified Projection Approximation Subspace Tracking Deflation (MPASTD) method, so called Hybrid EST Iterative MMSE-MPASTD (HEIMM) algorithm. The HEIMM algorithm contributes steadfastly to an accurate system design and evaluation with full rate mode in a space-frequency format of extended multiple antennas method also in the framework of a practical MC-CDMA system. Beneath high order modulation, the simulation results are presented to exhibit an improved Bit Error Rate (BER) performance with reduced-rank computational complexity that independent of different system loading.

Residue number system (RNS) is a non weighted number system, which speeds up arithmetic operations by dividing them into smaller parallel operations. This number system supports parallel calculations, limited carry propagation and low power consumption which is used in digital system processors. One of the problems in the above mentioned system is the issue of overflow. The previously proposed algorithms for detecting overflow need transforming numbers from residue number system to decimal system and making a comparison in decimal systems. We propose a new overflow detection algorithm for RSN moduli set {2 n - 3, 2 n - 1, 2 n + 1, 2 n + 3} which can be implemented by fewer components of circuits. In addition, the proposed method is faster than the previous ROM-based algorithms as there is no need to fully convert the number to the decimal system. Besides, having a limited number of components, delay in this circuit is lower than the previously proposed ROM-based reverse converting circuits in all moduli systems.

This paper presents a new transient detection algorithm which uses the average absolute discrete group delay as a measure for the transient characteristic of sound. It shows that a bell-shaped window function performs a high-pass effect to the spectral coefficients, leading to a concentration of group delay values in the ¿-area for steady-state signals. This concentration is violated if a transient occurs. From this phenomenon, we derive a new transient detection method, improve it by a maximum order-filter, and show that it works well on percussive and tonal-percussive sounds.

As is well-known, cooperation among cognitive users can improve the accuracy of spectrum detection in cognitive radio systems. In this paper, based on OR-rule, a cooperative double-threshold energy detection algorithm is proposed. Theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate that this strategy can improve the spectrum detection probability significantly.
