Microgrids (MGs) are one of the most promising electrical systems for the next years. Since the definition of the MG paradigm by the first time, the investigation in this area is growing continuously and there are numerous research projects in this moment over the world. This paper makes a survey focused on two important features of MGs: unplanned islanding detection algorithms and inverter control in islanding. Islanding is an inherent property of MGs: the possibility to disconnect them from the main grid in case of disturbance but without stopping the energy generation in the MG. According with this, the different kind of algorithms used to detect the islanding are studied and compared to know their advantages and limitations. Once in islanding, the inverters of the MG must fix new references of voltage and frequency by means of different control techniques. The paper concludes with the solution proposed by the authors: a wireless communication system based on ZigBee in order to exchange the control set point between the inverters.

Many detection techniques against worms, denial of service attacks and botnets on the Internet have been developed. It is difficult to detect these threats if the malicious traffic has insufficient intensity, which is usually the case. To make the problem worse, legitimate Internet services behaving like worm and complexity network environments undermines the efficiency of the detection techniques. This paper proposes an entropy-based Internet threats detection approach that determines and reports the traffic complexity parameters when changes in the traffic complexity content may indicate a malicious network event. Based on the experiment, the proposed method is efficient and produces less false positive and false negative alarms with a faster detection time.

In this paper, we propose a vision based monitoring system for passenger's safety in railway platform. The detection algorithm of the proposed system exploits stereo vision algorithm to improve system detection performance because railway platform has various illumination conditions due to train arrival and departure in the scene. The vision based monitoring system detects possible accidents, such as a fallen passenger on the track, getting stuck between the train doors, and so on, and informs operators about the accident with alarm in order to promptly make a deal with the emergency. In the paper, the system configuration, detection process and test result of detection performance are presented.

Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) has gradually become the most promising technique for next generation wireless telecommunication systems. MMSE-VBLAST is a MIMO detection algorithm which has a performance close to the maximum likelihood with considerably low complexity. The improvements in the algorithm presented in this paper result in substantial computation savings which in turn leads to substantial hardware savings, as it avoids the expensive hardware cost of square root and division operations. This improvement decreases the computational complexity of MMSE-VBLAST with no performance penalty compared to previous MMSE-VBLAST algorithms. This has been validated for 2 times 2 and 4 times 4 MIMO systems using a rapid prototyping methodology that starts with pure software formulation in MATLAB and ends with an optimized equivalent FPGA hardware implementation.

Structured data is becoming increasingly abundant in many application domains recently. Furthermore, more complex but valuable databases will be obtained by combining plural structured databases. In this paper, we focus on "multidimensional structured databases'' as one of the typical examples of such complex databases, and propose a new data mining problem of finding closed hyperclique patterns, i.e., closed sets of correlated patterns, in them. To solve this problem efficiently, an algorithm named CHPMS is proposed which effectively utilizes the generality ordering and the properties of correlation and closedness. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is confirmed through the experiments with real world datasets.

This paper describes a sensorless position and speed detection algorithm designed for permanent magnet linear synchronous motor (PMLSM) drive. Measured line currents and terminal voltages are used to estimate the flux of the α-β axis in stator frame, integrating the back electromotive force (EMF). Position and speed signals are derived from angle of the flux linkage and its change rate. A new improved integrator is presented and analyzed for compensate DC offsets and drift, which invariably exist in any practical implementation based on combination of low-pass filter, highpass filter and PI regulator. Experimental results are presented to show the realization of the objectives.

Structure learning is a crucial component of a multivariate Estimation of Distribution algorithm. It is the part which determines the interactions between variables in the probabilistic model, based on analysis of the fitness function or a population. In this paper we take three different approaches to structure learning in an EDA based on Markov networks and use measures from the information retrieval community (precision, recall and the F-measure) to assess the quality of the structures learned. We then observe the impact that structure has on the fitness modelling and optimisation capabilities of the resulting model, concluding that these results should be relevant to research in both structure learning and fitness modelling.

The key problem of fire detection is the recognition and classification for fire flame and interference. Support vector machine (SVM) is a potential data classification tool developed from statistical theory. Aiming at the shortcomings of traditional fire detection, An image fire detection algorithm based on support vector machine is presented. The algorithm overcomes the disadvantages of neural network such as over learning, trapping in local minimum easily etc., and overcomes the complexity of doing a lot of experiments and statistical analysis to obtain recognition threshold. The experiment results show that the image fire detection algorithm based on SVM has high accuracy and notable effect on solving the recognition problem of small samples and nonlinear problem.

This preliminary study constitutes a proof of concept for seizure-triggered neuromodulation in a genetic rat model of absence epilepsy (GAERS) using the BioMEAtrade system. BioMEAtrade is a 256-channel MEA system with integrated electronics (ASIC) allowing simultaneous recording and stimulation of neural networks in vitro. It is based on parallel architecture of 64-channel ASICs with recording and stimulation capabilities for each channel. Here, we show that BioMEAtrade can also be used to develop adaptive protocols of neurostimulation in vivo. In epileptic rats, a seizure detection algorithm delivered online command to BioMEAtrade for bilateral stimulation of the substantia nigra pars reticulata which aborted spike-and-wave discharges in many instances, within 1 second following seizure onset.

In the last few years, the interest is increasing in the interferometric processing of multibaseline/multitemporal SAR data from complex urban or infrastructure areas. In order to locate and monitor a high number of ground structures with the lowest signal misinterpretation, the identification, i.e. the detection and height and deformation velocity estimation, of both single and multiple layover scatterers is an important step. This issue is addressed here by extensively experimenting the technique of adaptive differential tomography, a recent interferometric framework which allows to resolve multiple moving scatterers at different heights in the same SAR cell. To this aim, adaptive differential tomography is augmented with an automated information extraction algorithm. The technique has been applied to real C-band spaceborne data over an urban area. Corresponding results are discussed.
