This paper presents a method to utilize a port-based multibody contact model for simulating dynamic interaction between irregular surfaces. The existing compliant contact model requires an analytic parametrization of the surfaces involved in the interaction, the definition of a Gauss frame in each of the contact points and initialization of the candidate contact points. The authors intend to apply this contact model for cases in which the surfaces of the 3D interacting bodies can not be described (easily) by a geometrically defined surface. Such surfaces are often represented by 3D point meshes. This implies that the surfaces of the bodies have to be reconstructed from 3D point meshes where initialization of the candidate contact points is not arbitrary. This paper proposes the reconstruction of such surfaces by means of polynomial interpolation. With the aim of having a computationally efficient simulator, the surface interpolation is restricted to small patches around the candidate contact points. To select these candidates, the proposed simulation approach is completed by using a fast (existing) collision detection algorithm. Simulation results are validating the effectiveness of the proposed modeling and simulation approach.

With the recent development of digital television (DTV) broadcasting, the total number of deployed DTV transmitters is increasing in an unprecedented way. Therefore, transmitter identification (TxID) has been considered as an important feature in the ATSC standard for distributed transmission as it enables the broadcast authorities and operators to identify the source of interference or any illegal transmitter operating in a particular region. However, identification of the TxID sequence is a challenging issue due to the complexity offered by the conventional detection algorithm which is based on exhaustive search method or matched filter detection. In this paper, we propose to use a three-stage identification scheme which offers the same performance as the optimal matched filter but with significantly reduced implementation complexity. Design of this three-stage identifier is presented and corresponding complexity in terms of the computation and hardware implementation is also analyzed. The performance of the proposed three-stage approach are investigated and verified through the simulations in different channel scenarios. It is found from the simulation results that proposed identifier can provide reliable identification of DTV transmitters in large broadcast scenarios with significantly reduced hardware and computational complexity.

Cell outage management is a functionality aiming to automatically detect and mitigate outages that occur in radio networks due to unexpected failures. We envisage that future radio networks autonomously detect an outage based on measurements, from e.g., user equipment and base stations, and alter the configuration of surrounding radio base stations in order to compensate for the outage-induced coverage and service quality degradations and satisfy the operator-specified performance requirements as much as possible. In this paper we present a framework for cell outage management and outline the key components necessary to detect and compensate outages as well as to develop and evaluate the required algorithms.

In this paper, we present a seizure detector that is part of an implantable CMOS integrated device intended to identify seizure onsets and trigger focal treatment to disrupt seizure progression. The detector consists of a preamplifier, voltage level detectors, digital demodulators and a high-frequency detector. Variable gain amplification, adjustable threshold voltage identification and tunable recognition of high-frequency activities provide unique detection criteria for a specific patient. Moreover, digitally-controlled low-power CMOS circuits perform accurate seizure detection. A mathematical model of the seizure detection algorithm was validated in Matlab and circuits were implemented in a CMOS 0.18-¿m process. Total power consumption of the detector is 6.71 ¿W. detection performance was verified using intracerebral electroencephalographic recordings from a patient with epilepsy.

In order to obtain the feature parameters of a signal, the image ridge of time-frequency domain must usually be detected. In the paper, the PSO algorithm is applied to the detection of the transform-domain image ridge. A new ridge detection algorithm is proposed, together with its specific realization process. Furthermore, this method is simulated to evaluate precision of this and the robustness of noise. Comparing its simulation results with the common method prove that this algorithms have the advantage to be fast and simple, with high accuracy, less iterations and small noise. It appears that the so defined ridges deserve as some features of the signal.

Support Vector Machines (SVM) have several tuning parameters such as the kernel function type. This work proposes to develop an algorithm to calibrate the SVM automatically for detecting disease outbreaks based on Telehealth data. Two sets of simulated data are generated based on real Telehealth calls and an outbreak profile. The Telehealth data is related to respiratory disease syndrome. The outbreak profile is created based on real outbreak data. The first data set is used by the SVM to model the relation between call counts and the occurrence of a respiratory outbreak; however, the other data set is used for testing the resulting model. This model is auto-calibrated by optimizing four parameters using a Genetic Algorithm. These parameters are the tradeoff between the training error and the margin of the classifying hyperplane, kernel function type used, the hyperplane type used and the threshold level at which the occurrence of an outbreak is detected.

This paper presents a data purification algorithm based on outlier mining. In order to implement the purifying of training data, we define the central bias function of complex events and dissimilarity function of event set, and put forward an exception set growth algorithm based on bias priority. Experiment proves that the algorithm can solve non-deterministic polynomial hard and control the algorithm complexity within polynomial complexity.

Accurate estimation of actual motor unit action potential template parameters from noisy measurements is quite important for quantitative electromyograhic (EMG) analysis. This is especially true in case of clinical applications. In This paper presents a new method for the accurate estimation of motor unit action potential (MUAP) templates, contaminated by instrumentation and biological noise, and by the interference of MUAPs of neighboring motor units. This method is based on three processes: Interfering MUAPs are detected by a sensitive detection algorithm. The sample points of these MAUPs are rejected and excluded from the estimation process. An ¿-trimmed mean is then calculated for each sample point of all MUAPs within a motor unit action potential train (MUAPT). To further smooth the baseline of the template while preserving its shape, a simple wavelet based de-noising technique is applied to the resulting template. The proposed method is compared to traditional estimation techniques such as mean, median, mode, ¿-trimmed mean and Bayesian estimation. Using the isolated MUAPs within the 46 trains of concentric needle-detected MUAPs (25-447 per train) obtained using EMG signal decomposition, template baseline RMS levels and their spike shape fidelities were measured. Overall, this newly developed method compared to traditional estimation techniques provided the smoothest baselines and an acceptable spike fidelity factor.

Heterogeneous networks play a key role in the evolution of communities and the decisions individuals make. These networks link different types of entities, for example, people and the events they attend. Network analysis algorithms usually project such networks unto simple graphs composed of entities of a single type. In the process, they conflate relations between entities of different types and loose important structural *** develop a mathematical framework that can be used to compactly represent and analyze heterogeneous networks that combine multiple entity and link types. We generalize Bonacich centrality, which measures connectivity between nodes by the number of paths between them, to heterogeneous networks and use this measure to study network structure. Specifically, we extend the popular modularity maximization method for community detection to use this centrality metric. We also rank nodes based on their connectivity to other nodes. One advantage of this centrality metric is that it has a tunable parameter we can use to set the length scale of interactions. By studying how rankings change with this parameter allows us to identify important nodes in the *** apply the proposed method to analyze the structure of several heterogeneous networks. We show that exploiting additional sources of evidence corresponding to links between, as well as among, different entity types yields new insights into network structure.

This study presents results for observing forest changes in Sweden using multi-temporal L-band satellite data and is a part of the JAXA's ALOS Kyoto and Carbon Initiative. An extensive dataset of images acquired by the Advanced Land Observing Satellite Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (ALOS PALSAR) is investigated for clear-cut detection in boreal forests in northern Sweden (Lat. 64°14' N, Long. 19°50' E). Strong forest/non-forest contrast and temporal consistency were found for the Fine Beam Dual HV-polanzed backscatter during unfrozen conditions. Thus, a simple thresholding algorithm that exploits the temporal consistency of pair-wise HV-backscatter measurements has been developed for clear-cut detection. When applied to an image pair acquired during favorable weather conditions, the detection algorithm identified 76% of the clear-cut pixels within a reference layer, with zero erroneously detected pixels. With further refinement the developed methodology can be an option to present operational alternatives for clear-cut detection.
